To just want to go for a walk

Fedupmummy88 · 02/01/2022 10:01

Whole household tested positive for covid Christmas Day (Dh, me, dc1 7 years old and dc2 8 months old) luckily we seem to have had relatively minor symptoms (cold and flu like for a few days for me, same for DH for a bit longer, coughs in the children) and now thankfully all feel fine

Dh is now testing negative on day 6 and 7 do is back to work today as per the government guidance. The children are both negative as well.

I however am still testing positive despite having less symptoms than DH and feeling fine since about Tuesday.

Children aren't sleeping well especially the 8 month old and I definitely think it's the lack of fresh air. With school runs they are used to being out on a walk at least an hour a day and now they have barely left the house.

I know it is but would it be totally unreasonable to go out for a short walk through the woods at the back of the house? We live in quite a remote area and rarely see anyone in the woods and I just want to get out. Have no interest in going anywhere else (luckily we had a food shop delivered Thursday and have had family drop anything we need at the door.)

Also feeling sorry for the eldest DC as this is the second Christmas holidays we've been isolating as DH got Covid at the same time last year! It's also my last couple of weeks off before returning to work after maternity leave next week.

I probably won't go out as I'll feel too guilty but just wondered if anyone would in these circumstances?

Amen to that!

If it was a short walk at the back of your house and you would see noone then I would have no problem with it. We also have Covid and were still positive on day 6. Going to test tomorrow in hopes DC can go back to school/college. We were also isolating last Christmas and both DC's last 2 birthdays have been in Lockdown...I feel so sorry for them...are they ever going to have a fun school holiday again! I'm still feeling really ill, though so not sure when I'll be able to go out!

HappyDays40 · 03/01/2022 01:35

I suspect I've just met a COVID positive person walking her dog. I took out the bins the dog came toward me and asked me not to touch the dog as she has a cold. I don't blame her dogs need walking. Go for a walk.

Wasn’t the summer holiday fun for them?

@CremeEggThief

Please do not think that is typical teen behaviour
It really really isn’t

And “unprecedented”
HesterShaw1 · 03/01/2022 09:16

It's quite absurd. I have a friend who had Covid before Christmas (a few cold like symptoms for a few days). The dog needed walking and there was no one else to do it. So he'd go at 6am everyone morning with a torch and a mask and a face shield. He asked if I'd judge him. I just said "If I saw someone stumbling around in the dark with a mask and a face shield I'd judge "There goes someone who has Covid and doesn't want to be caught." It's like carrying a sign ."

milkieway · 03/01/2022 13:02

If you tested positive on Xmas day you should have done 10 days isolation now so you can go anyway?

Rhumatoidwarrior88 · 03/01/2022 17:24

Go before sunrise or after . When there is absolutely no one around for your sanity and safety .

hubbs · 03/01/2022 17:40

We have just done exactly this - positive family all getting cabin fever so we have gone to a wood near home and we met .. no one it was bliss . Do it the whole of Tesco probably has omicron and they don't know !!

So bloody true!!
Wearethechampionsmyfriend · 03/01/2022 17:48

After having Covid you can test positive up to 90 days after. The recommend isolation is now 7 days so cant you come out of isolation now anyway ? Sorry if I've misread the guidance but if you count Christmas day as your first day then tomorrow is day ten. You can't isolate forever or until you have a negative.

Tessabelle1 · 03/01/2022 17:55

I know it's illegal, but so is speeding and we all do that! It's about minimising risk. I wouldn't go shopping, but a quiet walk outside, yes, I most definitely would

Weareallvirgins · 03/01/2022 17:57

Jesus why ask mums net. Just go for awalk if you want to. Why ask strangers who are massively opinionated

irregularegular · 03/01/2022 17:58

I think that a walk somewhere very quiet in essentially zero risk and I would totally do it to get out of the house. And I've not heard of anybody being fined for this kind of thing.

Wreath21 · 03/01/2022 18:04

The risk of transmitting Covid in the open air is negligent to non-existent. Go for as many walks as you want.
It is now more necessary than ever for people to keep going outside even if they need to distance (because they are either vulnerable or possibly infectious).
We need a lot more disobedience over rules which are arbitrary, puritanical, scaremongering bullshit (stay in your cage, stay in your CAGE or you're a MURDERER when all along this has been an airborne virus, and all along a lack of fresh air, sunlight and exercise is harmful to everyone's health).

Yes, Covid is real, yes it's potentially dangerous to some people and yes, we have a public health crisis. We also have a government of gangsters that is using Covid to strip away rights and steal enormous amounts of public money. Steer clear of snivelling puritanical superstitious bullshit.

MammaMacgill87 · 03/01/2022 18:04

I wouldn't suggest you go, but if dh and kids are now testing negative I'd definitely send them off for an hour. You could hang out a window for some air 🤣. Having said that how likey are you to bump into someone early morning or late evening? I understand people are saying it's against the law, but it's is actually against the law to leave your house to walk in an unpopulated woods? Or is it just to take a jaunt down tescos? I don't even know what the laws are anymore (Scotland) Id personally day that it's almost a necessary journey for the sake of your physical and mental wellbeing. Doesn't matter what anyone says in these posts though you'll always be doing something wrong. I hope you shift it quick especially as it's your last few weeks of maternity x

Maximum71 · 03/01/2022 18:11

@Fedupmummy88
Did you actually stick a test stick up your kids noses? Surely if you're positive then you keep them with you anyway? No need to test?
I hope you did go for a walk!
You and the kids need fresh air xx
Sorry if I'm repeating what other posters have written! I can't be bothered with everyone's know it all opinions at the moment. Completely sick of all this covid crap.

Dontwanttolivewithmylover · 03/01/2022 18:11

GO. Your health, both mental and physical, needs some outdoor time even if only an hour. Children will sleep better and feel refreshed. As long as it's a practically deserted area. Could you go when it's least likely to have anyone there, lunchtime perhaps? I took my double mask off in M&S whilst I had a sit down by the shoe section today. Sometimes it's so suffocating and you need fresh air. I usually keep strictly to the rules but there are times when it's justified to break them.

Pigeonpair1 · 03/01/2022 18:12

I walked twice a day with Covid just before Christmas - had to take the dog out. I just walked around out (admittedly quiet residential area). As long as you are not stopping and chatting you should be fine. We just need to use our common sense.

Wreath21 · 03/01/2022 18:13

Also remember if you are unlucky enough to meet a bullying prick of a copper, refuse to pay the fine, appeal, make them take you to court and tell the media about it: almost every fine given has been proven to be unfair and thrown out by the courts.

Maximum71 · 03/01/2022 18:14

@Wreath21
With you 100% on this.

Common sense does prevail!!
cherish123 · 03/01/2022 18:34

It's fine for them to go for a walk. I think you would have to wait until you tested negative, though. However, I think sometimes you can get a false positive after having Covid 🤷.

iloverunningslow · 03/01/2022 18:36

I would go for a walk. I had covid recently and I went for lots of walks. Mental health is important too. Obviously you will be extremely cautious about time of day and staying away from other people but as long as you're sensible it's easy to avoid passing it on.
