To just want to go for a walk

Fedupmummy88 · 02/01/2022 10:01

Whole household tested positive for covid Christmas Day (Dh, me, dc1 7 years old and dc2 8 months old) luckily we seem to have had relatively minor symptoms (cold and flu like for a few days for me, same for DH for a bit longer, coughs in the children) and now thankfully all feel fine

Dh is now testing negative on day 6 and 7 do is back to work today as per the government guidance. The children are both negative as well.

I however am still testing positive despite having less symptoms than DH and feeling fine since about Tuesday.

Children aren't sleeping well especially the 8 month old and I definitely think it's the lack of fresh air. With school runs they are used to being out on a walk at least an hour a day and now they have barely left the house.

I know it is but would it be totally unreasonable to go out for a short walk through the woods at the back of the house? We live in quite a remote area and rarely see anyone in the woods and I just want to get out. Have no interest in going anywhere else (luckily we had a food shop delivered Thursday and have had family drop anything we need at the door.)

Also feeling sorry for the eldest DC as this is the second Christmas holidays we've been isolating as DH got Covid at the same time last year! It's also my last couple of weeks off before returning to work after maternity leave next week.

I probably won't go out as I'll feel too guilty but just wondered if anyone would in these circumstances?

@Sleepyblueocean

"hardly onerous is it?"

It is for some people.

Yep, me included!
BrightYellowDaffodil · 03/01/2022 20:38

I find it weird that we can't cope with staying around our homes for a couple of weeks, hardly onerous is it?

Really? Hmm Solitary confinement is used as a psychological punishment, and yet call it “self isolation” because you have Netflix and suddenly it’s fine…

milkieway · 03/01/2022 20:41

Assuming if you've still got a faint positive on lateral flow by day 10 you can still stop isolating?

ChipsNdFish · 03/01/2022 20:44

100% go. Fresh air and exercise are essential for health, and encouraging people to stay locked in their houses is not a healthy way to live. Get some air, move your body and enjoy it. There needs to be more to life than Covid, and we need to re-learn how to manage and assess risk sensibly again.

Ha ha ha. Tell me you’ve never isolated in a 2 bedroom flat with a child with ADHD with out telling me…

dementedpixie · 03/01/2022 20:51

@hivemindneeded

I was told yesterday that after day 7 if you feel fine you can go back into the community because LFTs give lots of false positives after that. If you have no symptoms after Day 7, legally you are allowed out. This isn't widely known but should be. A GP told a friend whose son was still testing positive on Day 10.
Lft are more likely to give false negatives If you test positive on day 7 then you stay isolating until you either get 2 consecutive negative lfts or you reach day 10 at which point you can stop isolating anyway

@DollyD65

I'm not saying do or don't go for a walk. But what if every covid positive person went for a walk? I find it weird that we can't cope with staying around our homes for a couple of weeks, hardly onerous is it?
Oh FFS. Another unimaginative snivelling puritan. Just FYI, lots of people have struggled with the mass caging - because their homes are insecure, inadequate, or have to be shared with bullies/abusers. And don't forget that, actually, gentle exercise in the fresh air is extremely important for overall health, especially for convalescents.

The 'don't even go for a walk' advice should have been disobeyed from the very beginning, because it was completely unjustified and all about terrorizing the public.

Moaningkimono · 03/01/2022 21:15

Haven’t read the full thread but really hope you were pragmatic and went for a walk. It’s all about balancing risks. In the circumstances you describe I wouldn’t hesitate to get some fresh air!

FeeFi100 · 03/01/2022 21:19

My two pence piece.

I recently had covid (over Christmas) and when I was strong enough (around day 5/6) I went for walks in the late evening (around 9pm). Didn’t really see anyone and when I did I crossed over.

On about day 7/8 I went for a drive in my car. Phone rang. It was test and trace 🤣🤣 they just wanted to some info. on who I may have come in contact with when I initially got covid. I’m sure she could hear my car indicator 😬 but luckily I was near home & she called back.

On a separate note - I went to Greece around Oct time, came back & had to self-isolate for 10 days (I didn’t test positive but it was the rules). I went for a walk a couple of times early morning/evening but was surprised when test and trace knocked on my door to check that I was at home (at about 11am one day). I even had to show them my ID. So…if you go abroad & come back to U.K. you may want to be careful about what times/when you go out.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 03/01/2022 21:23

If you tested positive Xmas day isn't today day 10? So out tomorrow ?

dementedpixie · 03/01/2022 21:25

10 days takes you to midnight on 4th January so allowed out 5th January

NeverForgetYourDreams · 03/01/2022 21:25

? Starts 25th count 10 days it's 3rd? Surely.

dementedpixie · 03/01/2022 21:26

Day of test is day 0. 10 full days after takes you to midnight on 4th.
If symptoms started before that then day of symptoms is day 0

NeverForgetYourDreams · 03/01/2022 21:28

That's just stupid then. Since when did people starting counting from 0 for anything.

Go out OP. I guarantee you that you won't get pinned to the ground by armed police

I'm just telling you what the guidelines say
NeverForgetYourDreams · 03/01/2022 21:32

Appreciate you are but it's still stupid. So it's 11 days isolation then not 10. Is day 6 and day 7 test then actually day 7 and 8?

Feeasco · 03/01/2022 21:45

Go for fresh air it will help you heal and cope with stress. If you're rural and keep away from others why not? X

5128gap · 03/01/2022 22:40

If this threads anything to go by OP, the fields and woods of Britain are overrun with covid positive people on walks, so anyone you meet will likely have it already!

Cavementality · 04/01/2022 00:20

I think that it's fine as long as you accept that if you injure yourself whilst out and need assistance from someone, you need to make them aware that you have Covid!

I voted YABU but Actually you know what go and do it. Me and my mum tested positive over Christmas and there was no one to walk our dog. We went out every day with him at like 6am and then around 11pm no one about and he got the walk he needed and we got the fresh air we needed. I was so stressed locked up it badly affected me.

Tzimi · 04/01/2022 07:00

Just go for a walk, you need daily exercise. It will do you more harm just to fester indoors without getting any exercise.

Well why did you vote YABU in the first place?!
Excitedforthefuture · 04/01/2022 07:17

I’m guessing people like @DollyD65

Don’t have young children
Not active
Retired possibly
Probably led a somewhat quiet and home-based life pre covid

So for someone like this… yeah, I can see isolating for 10 days wouldn’t be “onerous”

For those of us with young children, very active lives, who don’t lead mainly home focussed lives

It’s very “onerous”!

Normski67 · 04/01/2022 07:19

Yesterday I saw 2 test and trace people in hi viz vests, cycling around where I live. First thought was they are going looking for all these covid + people breaking self isolation and walking in the local beauty spot!
So just maybe they are checking on people?!?
