To just want to go for a walk

Fedupmummy88 · 02/01/2022 10:01

Whole household tested positive for covid Christmas Day (Dh, me, dc1 7 years old and dc2 8 months old) luckily we seem to have had relatively minor symptoms (cold and flu like for a few days for me, same for DH for a bit longer, coughs in the children) and now thankfully all feel fine

Dh is now testing negative on day 6 and 7 do is back to work today as per the government guidance. The children are both negative as well.

I however am still testing positive despite having less symptoms than DH and feeling fine since about Tuesday.

Children aren't sleeping well especially the 8 month old and I definitely think it's the lack of fresh air. With school runs they are used to being out on a walk at least an hour a day and now they have barely left the house.

I know it is but would it be totally unreasonable to go out for a short walk through the woods at the back of the house? We live in quite a remote area and rarely see anyone in the woods and I just want to get out. Have no interest in going anywhere else (luckily we had a food shop delivered Thursday and have had family drop anything we need at the door.)

Also feeling sorry for the eldest DC as this is the second Christmas holidays we've been isolating as DH got Covid at the same time last year! It's also my last couple of weeks off before returning to work after maternity leave next week.

I probably won't go out as I'll feel too guilty but just wondered if anyone would in these circumstances?

Absolutely go for a walk. You are not going to infect anyone while you are out and about and no one will know.

Psychofortruth · 03/01/2022 18:44

100% go.... if you are genuinely worried put some masks on they are meant to stop you spreading a virus rather than anything else everyone seem's to think!!!

carlygirly · 03/01/2022 18:54

Day 8 and a very faint positive line still.

I've been out for a walk today, didn't know if I'd be up to it but managed a couple of miles and it was lovely. Encountered a handful of people and crossed the street each time to avoid them. Touched absolutely nothing. Waited a couple of minutes outside a shop, well away from the door and walkway, while dp bought supplies. Returned home and feel so much better for the exercise and fresh air.

ginforever · 03/01/2022 18:56

I wouldn’t even ask and just go.
Fresh air or good for everyone.
Just go and stay away from everybody else !

CeibaTree · 03/01/2022 18:58

@PurpleDaisies

It’s against the law. You could be fined. I absolutely wouldn’t do this.

When’s your isolation final date? It’s really rotten to be stuck in. Flowers

Gosh talk about an OTT reaction, no-one is going to be fined - do you think there are people patrolling the OP's local woods demanding to see their covid status (how would anyone even check that anyway?)?

OP being cooped up with children for that long is not good for anyone's mental health. I hope you enjoy your walk :)

kmgarner2001 · 03/01/2022 18:59

Do what you'd normally do if you had a cold (or does Ccommon sense not exist any more?).

mrsbeeton999 · 03/01/2022 19:02

My other half went for a walk on day 8 of covid. He went up the fields behind us where we never see anyone and felt so much better when he got back an hour later - go for it!

LittleGwyneth · 03/01/2022 19:02

I did and it was fine, regret nothing, felt better for it.

Mumkins42 · 03/01/2022 19:16

I would absolutely go and wouldn't feel an ounce of guilt. You say it's quiet, you don't see people there. Maybe wear a mask if you feel concerned there may be people you could come into contact with.

PinkButtercups · 03/01/2022 19:23

If you had symptoms before the 25th then your 10 days is up anyway.

PinkButtercups · 03/01/2022 19:25

@Wearethechampionsmyfriend

After having Covid you can test positive up to 90 days after. The recommend isolation is now 7 days so cant you come out of isolation now anyway ? Sorry if I've misread the guidance but if you count Christmas day as your first day then tomorrow is day ten. You can't isolate forever or until you have a negative.
No isolation ends on day 7 if you test negative on days 6&7 on a LF 24hrs apart.
ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHaands · 03/01/2022 19:27

@PurpleDaisies

Who is going to approach a random person walking in a field/the woods, and demand to know their covid status? Does that change the fact that it’s against the law with a large fine if you’re caught?
No but test and trace call at random times to check you're home and isolating and it might be quite hard to mute the sounds of being outside

Are you given to bouts of histrionics ? FGS...
MotherOfBeardedDragons · 03/01/2022 19:31

I did it recently. Twice in fact. Once very early in the morning and once late at night. I wore a mask both times and hardly seen anyone and when I did, had already made sure to stick to places I could easily distance.

Risk of exposure outdoors is pretty minimal. You’re probably not very infectious now, if at all. And I think you need to weigh up the risks of transmitting vs risks to your health, if you can go safely, 100% do it.

Fingers crossed the covid police aren’t round the corner 😂😂

Neither DH or I had a single call from T&T. We just did the online form and that was that. They called once when DD tested positive, presumably because she’s too young to fill in the form herself, but we didn’t hear from them again.

Or you could just not pick up 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's fine

Don't answer! I am sure they are not sending the police around with over 200,000 cases a day!

💯

I don't think they'll come out, only to find you were in the shower!

JuergenSchwarzwald · 03/01/2022 19:42

I'm totally with the OP going for a walk but she can't justify on the basis of the law in another country, what a strange justification

but the science is the same - so it might be legally wrong but clearly not morally wrong if other countries think it's ok to go out for a walk with covid.

Who is going to approach and stop you, ask for your covid status and fine you on a walk in the woods? Am i missing something?
DollyD65 · 03/01/2022 19:56

I'm not saying do or don't go for a walk.
But what if every covid positive person went for a walk? I find it weird that we can't cope with staying around our homes for a couple of weeks, hardly onerous is it?

It really is! I've got a big energy dog, what do i do with her? I need air and walking to feel well!
Sleepyblueocean · 03/01/2022 20:08

"hardly onerous is it?"

It is for some people.

laura180984 · 03/01/2022 20:22

I did… honestly was a toss up between my mental health and Covid rules by day 5/6 - I went over the fields near my house and it was needed!!!!
