Would you protect your son?

I was thinking about the queen and Prince Andrew.
I think he is guilty, but I do feel bad for the Queen.
It reminded me of desperate housewives when Bree / Brie (How do you spell it when its a name?)
protects her son, Andrew (Shock) when he runs over and kills a neighbours mother.

I was thinking about it and I don't know if I could let my son go to prison, especially if he was a Prince. But then again, I don't think my own sons would be pervy, rapey men when they're older, but who knows!
I would probably protect my children if they accidentally killed someone, but if they were raping girls in a big sex gang I think I'd be disgusted enough to let them face the music. But then if they told me they didn't know and it was all a misunderstanding, then I know I'd want to believe them and I probably would clutch at any straw i could.

So aibu?
YABU - I wouldn't protect my adult child if I had the means
YANBU - I would protect them.

Disclaimer- I am not the parent of an adult, I don't know yet how the relationship grows from parent + child to parent + adult

Also I don't support Prince Andrew in anyway, I just know I'm not perfect and I don't blame the Queen for burying her head in the sand.

I would support my DC through anything they did. But I would not hide things, lie for them or blame anyone else. But I would get the best legal professionals I could afford and be there next to them.

Even if your DC is a pedo?

@phishy good question. instinct is no but i pray im never in that situation. i cant imagine ever not supporting them but maybe thats the line.

ParkheadParadise · 03/01/2022 00:00

@phishy
I hope he is in jail for the rest of his life x

He didn't make it to jail.
He died 4 years later from a drug overdose. I have Zero Sympathy. Hope he rots in hell.

Its easy to say no when your not in the situation your kids are your kids and cutting them off would not be easy, you don't just stop loving them.
Standing by them and covering for them are different but lets not forget he hasn't been charged with anything despite the mn jury
Morality and legal are two different things

If she cut him off she might have to admit to herself that his upbringing may have something to do with his behaviour.

I put a similar comment on another thread. I can see why the Queen is protecting Andrew as at the end of the day he is her son.
My son is only a toddler and I would like to say if he turns out to be a disgusting creep who preys on vulnerable girls then I would turn him in but I'm not sure.
Obviously I'm trying to raise him to be a decent respectable person but it must be awfully hard to drop your own child in it
Probably not something you can answer unless it happens.

Meltinthemiddle · 03/01/2022 00:43

I would be heartbroken and devastated. It would very much depend on the crime, circumstances and whether my son was guilty. If he committed something really evil I'm not sure I could stand by him though and I would also feel guilty that I did a shit job raising him. I would probably feel ashamed. If he did something completely stupid or less serious then I would support him face the consequences but I wouldn't lie for him.

The situation IS sad for the Queen whose personal life seems to have been individually mostly blameless but I have to agree with @Ponoka7 on page 2.

She's protecting the monarchy, just as they did when their cousins begged them for sanctuary in 1917.

The cousins were shot in a basement and thrown into a hastily dug grave in the woods because they didn't want it the stink around in such difficult days. So much for "Dear Nicky and Alex".

Ozanj · 03/01/2022 02:51

I do think after the queen dies and Prince Philip’s past is dredged up we may find Andrew might not have fallen far from the tree.

Me too, screaming with intense pain for eternity. Fucking bastard. Angry
