Watching The Big Fat Quiz if the Year on Channel 4 and finding Jonathan Ross so irritating, attention-seeking and unnecessarily rude, just not funny.
AIBU to think he's had his day?

@Juniper68 - the cat was the funniest thing on it. 'I am not a cat, sir' - and the judge willing to allow it. Probably best day he's had in (virtual) court for a long time.

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 02/01/2022 11:37

I never particularly liked James until watching him on Taskmaster and now listening to the Off Menu podcast. Very funny

Waftypants · 02/01/2022 11:40

He's quite unkind to some people and not funny. I don't like him at all.

HaveringWavering · 02/01/2022 11:47

@DorothyZbornakIsAQueen

Jonathan ross lost his appeal when his chat show moved to ITV.

He went from interviewing A list stars, to people off towie.

But the people they have on big fat quiz of the year, just gets progressively worse.

I actually used to like James Acaster, but I think he isn't as funny as he used to be when he first started out.

Sarah pascoe is as funny as a dose of the clap.

I'd rather shit in my hands and clap, than watch Sarah millican and her stupid voice, which I don't believe she talks like that at home.

And Jimmy Carr is about as funny as cancer.

But he was bearable when the show had good guests.

Just seen the line up tonight and I was like, ahh fuck this.

Let me guess- you’re more of a Frankie Boyle fan, right?
Floogal · 02/01/2022 11:59

@ElftonWednesday

If people get cancelled for past tweets, can't someone go back through Ross's old shows and make a list of the disgusting sexist and misogynistic drivel he regularly came out with, and the cringingly awful way he spoke to female guests, and get him off our screens for good.
You're right! I remember Chris Evans on TFI Friday was always more keen to chat to ANY female guest and would usually go down to stage to talk to female artists (but not make).
Floogal · 02/01/2022 12:02

I meant male not make.

Also I remember a Viz strip called Jonathan Ross and his quest for a toss.

Glassisalwaysgreener · 02/01/2022 12:27

His daughters seem like obnoxious woke brats too. I remember he came out in support of JKR then had to retract it because they had a tantrum.

I haven't laughed so loud in ages and I laugh a lot Grin

Herewearestar · 02/01/2022 12:47

The weird thing is Ross always was afforded a respectability eg being given his own chat shows on BBC 1 despite becoming more and more vulgar towards female guests throughout the 90s and 00s. The Andrew Sachs incident showed how immune he thought he had become, that he thought shouting “he fucked your granddaughter!” to a man in his 70s then roaring with laughter on national radio, was a bit of fun.

He has toned down his act a lot from the nineties and noughties but again there has been no real reckoning for such people (see also Chris Moyles) who still have lucrative media careers after the most misogynistic “humour” with no regret expressed for their behaviour.

maddiemookins16mum · 02/01/2022 12:51

He’s been unfunny since the 80s.

shivermetimbers77 · 02/01/2022 12:55

I used to really like his Radio Two show on Saturday mornings- he seemed natural and witty and it played to his strengths. I don't watch his tv show as far prefer Graham Norton.

Deadringer · 02/01/2022 13:15

His show has always been nothing more than an ego trip. Every guest, every interview, every anecdote, everything alway went back to being about JR.

llantwitminor · 02/01/2022 13:52

A researcher who got lucky. Well passed his sell by date.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 02/01/2022 14:15

@Floogal

Richard Richard:"Eddie, you're funnier than Jonathan Ross!" Eddie Hitler:" But he's not funny!" Richard Richard:"exactly" 😏😂
Now ^that's funny! 😹
whachatalkinaboutwillis · 02/01/2022 14:27

Jo Brand is a comedy god. She pulls it out the bag when needed and is one of the few older women visible on TV. For this, alone, I will always adore her:

The look on Hislops face is pure admiration and acceptance of being put firmly in his place. Bravo Jo, thank you.
Ponypizzy · 02/01/2022 14:28

The Last Resort was quite good in its time. I doubt it would stand up well today. JR hasn’t adapted over time is rude and obnoxious and has a real nasty streak. I don’t watch anything because he is on it I don’t understand how he commands the contracts he gets. There are much better people around, ITV needs to massively widen its portfolio of presenters (see also Schofield, Willoughby, Ant and Dec etc)

Anordinarymum · 02/01/2022 14:28

I don't mind Jonathan Ross at all. There are far worse people on the TV

CounsellorTroi · 02/01/2022 14:33

Because the majority of female comedians that get on TV these days seem to make 90% of their act being thick as mince. There's the occasional one who doesn't do it, but the obligatory female in the corner is largely doing an 'oh, I'm a moron, isn't this funny' routine.

I really don’t agree with this. Off the top of my head I can think of Xoe Lyons, Maisie Adam, Angela Barnes, Shappi Korsandi, Aisling Bea, Sandi Toksvig who do not base their act on being moronic.

AuntMargo · 02/01/2022 14:43

I cannot bear to watch him and haven't for years, hes a slimy creep along with Jimmy Carr. Cant abide the pair of them !

OhGiveUp · 02/01/2022 14:49

He's about as funny as standing on lego with bare feet.
Even less funny when he gets with his equally unfunny mate and leaves disgusting messages on an old man's answering machine about the man's granddaughter.

Christmasbellsagio40 · 02/01/2022 14:51

@RonniePickering

I've despised him since the phone call incident with Andrew Sachs to be honest 😖
Same. Disgusting man
Horological · 02/01/2022 14:57

Re the Ross/Brand Andrew Sachs voicemail incident. Russell Brand has really changed. He has a lot of self awareness now and will openly talk about how obnoxious he used to be. On the other hand, Jonathon Ross is still doing exactly the same sleazy/naughty man child thing. He's too old and times have changed.

CaMePlaitPas · 02/01/2022 15:11

Ugh the Ross brothers and Chris Moyles mentioned in the same thread... I've got to go and wash my eyes.

Mayorquimby2 · 02/01/2022 15:29

Not a fan but thought he was decent on that particular show.

Astounded there's so much hate for acaster, by far the best standup about at the moment.
