Watching The Big Fat Quiz if the Year on Channel 4 and finding Jonathan Ross so irritating, attention-seeking and unnecessarily rude, just not funny.
AIBU to think he's had his day?

Jonathan ross lost his appeal when his chat show moved to ITV.

He went from interviewing A list stars, to people off towie.

But the people they have on big fat quiz of the year, just gets progressively worse.

I actually used to like James Acaster, but I think he isn't as funny as he used to be when he first started out.

Sarah pascoe is as funny as a dose of the clap.

I'd rather shit in my hands and clap, than watch Sarah millican and her stupid voice, which I don't believe she talks like that at home.

And Jimmy Carr is about as funny as cancer.

But he was bearable when the show had good guests.

Just seen the line up tonight and I was like, ahh fuck this.

TVTestCard · 02/01/2022 01:09

He asked Aisling Bea if she was single when she was on his show and she covered it up with a joke but she looked quite taken aback.

MrsToothyBitch · 02/01/2022 01:12

I've never found Jonathan Ross very funny- he's smug, he interrupts and I'm still appalled at the Andrew Sachs incident. Im also a bit disgusted at a very off colour Geri Halliwell joke he made on a NMTB Christmas Special- which should've been edited out, yes, but which also should never have been said.

James Acaster I find to be smug. There's a swathe of comedians around atm that I intensely dislike watching because they have a very unsettling edge to them. Jimmy Carr is a prime example. It's like realising the glass has been removed between you and a smug, tax dodging, predatory leopard. I also find the ones who rattle off endless puns annoying. It's so, so painfully worked- I can see all the gears going and it puts me off.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 02/01/2022 01:13

@Shehasadiamondinthesky

He has a massive ego as does everybody else on all of the incessant game shows on lately, chat shows and other such rubbish. I can't bear any of them. I think Jo Brand has totally sold out being on those tedious shows all the time.
Please don't slate Jo brand. Name me any other female comedian in their 60s still getting telly work.

You may think she has 'sold out', but you try being a not slim 60 year old woman and still being funny enough to get on TV and earn a wage.

And she is still hilarious.

Yep, you have perfectly articulated my feeling.

Juniper68 · 02/01/2022 01:22

What was JR on about when he said he thought the singer pissed in someone's mouth? I thought I was hearing things.

OhWhyNot · 02/01/2022 01:23

Agree he had his day years ago

I remember him making really grim remarks to Charlotte Church she was very young at the time put me right off him

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 02/01/2022 01:28

He asked Aisling Bea if she was single when she was on his show and she covered it up with a joke but she looked quite taken aback.

I remember with horror when he told Kirsty Gallacher that he could 'ruin her for normal men' Envy

Graham Norton has a cheeky laugh with his guests - often gently at their expense.... but I think it's very clear why he gets all the massive names on his show and is still at the top of his game. He never tries (or needs) to be outrageous or cross the line to stay relevant.

Quirkyme · 02/01/2022 01:33

I watched the episode too...

I started the show a bit late and was confused as to why he was wearing black nail polish? Maybe I had missed the reason if he mentioned it, but I was surprised seeing it didn't seem to be his usual look...

OhWhyNot · 02/01/2022 01:37

Last few years there has been so many tv shows with men just chatting and being oh so funny

Why can’t we have female comedians doing talk shows or travel shows

It’s tiresome and often not funny

Juniper68 · 02/01/2022 01:40

Barcodescanner22 Shock that's disgusting

Probably would have gotten on quite well with Mark Oaten, former Lib Dem.

Deadringer · 02/01/2022 01:55

He was always a dick.

anotherchocolate · 02/01/2022 02:16

He was always sleazy to female guests in his BBC days, always hitting on them and playing it off as a laugh. Now he's older and the times have moved on since the 00s, his whole schtick just comes across as desperate and embarrassing. On BFQ, he kept coming up with the crudest answers, not realising we're no longer in the 90s/00s and that it's just tedious now.

It's a shame because I think he's actually a smart guy and I enjoyed his Film review series back in the day. But he seems so determined to be seen as nerdy-cool and down with the kids that it's stunting him as a TV personality.

I've never got the fuss over Acaster either, or why he seemingly has a devoted following of fangirls.

Give me an all-women BFQ! And not just eye-candy TV presenter women. Actual proper female comedians!

I don’t get James Acaster’s appeal personally, found him particularly unfunny.

Yes. He's properly crap. I suppose they were after 'completely immature adult who behaves like a stroppy teenager' but Jack Whitehall was unavailable.

😂😂😂😂 this x 100!

Thatldo · 02/01/2022 02:27

Old,boring man with dyed hair.Horrid!

mjf981 · 02/01/2022 02:31

Jonaathon Ross - agreed. I find him completely unappealing in every way. Same with James Acaster. Just don't understand why either of them have air time. They're both people I would actively avoid in real life.

Sarah Millican, Jimmy Carr - I think they're both funny.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 02/01/2022 02:46

Because the majority of female comedians that get on TV these days seem to make 90% of their act being thick as mince. There's the occasional one who doesn't do it, but the obligatory female in the corner is largely doing an 'oh, I'm a moron, isn't this funny' routine.
GerardWay123 · 02/01/2022 03:35

Obviously it can't happen but I want Terry Wogan back. My now departed Dad wasn't keen on him. That will be fun up or down there.

100% agree.

It's always funny comparing Graham Norton's consistently A-list guest list with the scraping the bottom of barrel roster (which seem often to comprise of his 'mates' drafted in at short notice) that Rosshas to make do with. I think guest booker for the Jonathan Ross show must be a very hard job!

It's beyond time his awful chat show was put out to pasture.

ElftonWednesday · 02/01/2022 04:12

If people get cancelled for past tweets, can't someone go back through Ross's old shows and make a list of the disgusting sexist and misogynistic drivel he regularly came out with, and the cringingly awful way he spoke to female guests, and get him off our screens for good.

Juniper68 · 02/01/2022 10:25

I howled at the cat though. Nothing to do with JR but so funny. I'd seen it but not heard him say it was him and not a CST Grin

TatianaBis · 02/01/2022 11:06

I don’t know if it’s because he’s got old or because times changed or both but I find him unwatchable now.

Georgeskitchen · 02/01/2022 11:11

I liked him years ago when he first came to prominence but as mentioned above, after that awful Andrew Sachs business he lost any credibility in my view. I might have expected it from Russell Brand who I can't abide, but would expect better behaviour from JR
