No don't be embarrased!! Our local chinese knows us very well too! They are just rewarding you for being a loyal customer.

We are budgeting at the minute and avoiding takeaway and got a letter from dominos asking where we have been lately and if there was a problem. It hasn't been more than a month.

We have 3 little kids and can't get out because one has health problems so we really look forward to that Friday night movie and takeaway when the kids are in bed.

Don't be embarrassed!!

I was at a friends house one night, when the doorbell range, and it was the manager of the local curry house - my friends who used to order takeout regularly, were on an economy drive, and hadn't had a takeout for a few weeks, and he had popped round to see if they were OK - and to deliver a bottle of wine as goodwill!

They were embarrassed too!

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 22/12/2007 08:22

we had chinese too last night, and they too knew our address (think it comes up on theri phone system when we ring. I tell myself that anyhoo.)

AND we also got decent bottle of wine, free starters, and a christmas card!!!

Ubergeekian · 22/12/2007 13:13

I think that's really nice. The world is too impersonal, and little things like this are quite heartwarming.

Mind you, I'd be a bit embarassed about always ordering the same chinese meal ... hang on, we always do order the same chinese meal. Whoops.

OrmIrian · 22/12/2007 13:22

Jacobs Creek? You were lucky....

We had a bottle of something that tasted like fanta without the bubbles from our local Indian. Couldn't even keep it for cooking.

coldtits · 22/12/2007 13:25

It's only foreign-run takeaways that do this. they are nicer than us - we have a shite sense of customer service in this country. I think it's lovely.

AimsmumPaPumPumMeAndMyDrum · 22/12/2007 13:27

Lol at them asking if you were ok when you ordered a different meal!

melpomene · 22/12/2007 13:50

We always get a curry in on a Friday night, and they recognise my voice on the phone. A few weeks ago they hiked their prices up considerably, so dh emailed to say we would be switching our custom elsewhere. The manager phoned up (with a bit of a sob in his voice) and said that if we returned, they would never charge us the £3 delivery charge ever again.

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 22/12/2007 13:51

Where we lived before, it got so that DH would ring, just say Hello and they'd say "Hello X. a bhuna and a korma? it'll be about 40 minutes." They also sent us a christmas card and a bottle of wine.

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 22/12/2007 13:54

Oh, forgot...once, the bloke across the road ordered from them, and the delivery bloke brought it to us. He just saw the street name, I think. We were tempted to take it actually.

Granny22 · 22/12/2007 13:59

It is not just the Chinese who do this. Our very scottish milkman gives us a lovely calender and pack of shortbread every New Year.

Myrrhcy · 22/12/2007 14:00

Some years ago our local pizza delivery place was listed on the Friends and Family part of our BT bill!

edam · 22/12/2007 14:01

I decided we really needed to move when it go to the point that I couldn't walk down the street to our flat without the owners of the newsagent, Chinese takeaway, curry house, and pizza place waving to me.

yulemoonfiend · 22/12/2007 14:01

we get a christmas card from our local ''hurrymeacurry'' place addressed to Mr and Mrs Sag Aloo and Chicken Jalfreizi But just a card, no wine...perhaps I should swap to Chinese?

Blandmum · 22/12/2007 14:03

I get mail addressed to 'dear Pizza eater'

suzywong · 22/12/2007 14:05

sorry to hijack - MB, how is your dh?

AnnaKeyrules · 22/12/2007 14:13

lol at this thread

Pre-sprogs our local Indian restaurant once sent us our first Christmas Card (on about the 2nd December). The restaurant was a 10 minute walk, and the card was one of those "across the miles" ones

lovecattlearelowing · 22/12/2007 19:13

We used to always get a christmas card off our local kebab shop - now THAT was embarrassing!

Mellieandmin · 22/12/2007 19:27

Don't be embarrassed, our Chinese take away corrects my order when I get it wrong or we choose something different.

The other day the guy on the phone took our house number down wrong but the delivery guy still knocked at our house as he was so sure it was for us!!

When you have kids, the local take-away is a lifesaver, I am REALLY EMBARRASSED to say I have even ordered in take-away for a dinner party!!! All the other times I cook of course, no sorry, I meant to say I shop at 'Cook' and palm it off as my own. I wish people would stop asking for recipes thou!!

MrsCellotape · 22/12/2007 19:33

pmsl! We have just received our weekly Chinese.... with our first freebie calendar!

Would've preferred wine though.

Mellieandmin · 22/12/2007 19:41

Just off to phone the Chinese demanding wine and a calendar!!!
