Please solve an on going domestic disagreement.

My OH waters down hand soap when it comes to the end to make it last longer, I think this is ming and think he should just open a new one… he disagrees!

YABU- it’s fine to water down hand soap
YANBU- it’s ming to water down hand soap!

I water mine down. Dh hates it

dairyfarmerswife · 29/12/2021 17:57

The worst thing is it squirts out too far and misses your hand anyway. Totally pointless watering down...

melissasummerfield · 29/12/2021 17:57

My DH does this even though there is always a spare bottle in the bathroom. Makes me feel murderous!

Greenrubber · 29/12/2021 17:57

Use a bar! Less plastic

MrzClaus · 29/12/2021 17:58

Get a new one out!!! Watery soap just splashed everywhere 😂

Yika · 29/12/2021 17:59

I do the same, why waste it?

speakout · 29/12/2021 18:00

Annoys me too. My mother does this when the bottle is 1/4 full.
All that happens is when you pump the watery liquid goes everywhere, drips on the worktop, infuriates me. I have asked her about it but she denies doing it.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 29/12/2021 18:01

My DH does this! As pp have said, when you're not expecting it it goes bloody everywhere. Also if I'm cooking and have just handled raw meat it's quite infuriating to be surprised by a jet of mildly foamy water.

MassDebate · 29/12/2021 18:01

My DH does this too and it enrages me! YANBU

MegaClutterSlut · 29/12/2021 18:01

Can he not open the new one and prop the old one up above it so it drips in the new bottle? That's what I do. I cba to water down soap

RandomLondoner · 29/12/2021 18:01

If it were OK to water down hand soap, you would be able to buy bottles of pre-watered down soap at lower prices.

If it were OK, he would keep spare dispenser around and always mix all newly bough soap with water before using it.

The third reason it makes no sense to water down soap is that if you want to use less soap per hand-cleaning, you can just dispense less. Watering it down doesn't achieve anything. In fact it may be wasteful, as the watery soap won't stick to your hands, so you may use up more actual soap because you need to dispense extra squirts to compensate for half of each squirt falling out of your hands before you can use them.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 29/12/2021 18:02

@MegaClutterSlut

I’ll suggest this… but it’s slightly more effort so not sure he’ll do it 🤯

I think if the soap was meant to be that liquidy surely that’s how they would make it… is it even less effective at cleaning watered down?

I have a pamper chef soap pump that makes a foam with watered down liquid soap
OnceuponaRainbow18 · 29/12/2021 18:07

I have a weird thing against soap bars 😬

I water it down to get the last drop.

senorafridgidaire · 29/12/2021 18:15

DH does this if the magical hand-wash fairy (me) hasn't automatically replaced it. When I show him where the new bottle is, he goes 'no need there's loads left in this one' - er no mate, that's basically water now. This is a man who goes into the recycling to retrieve things I've chucked that he thinks will be useful though, so I can't expect different really.

Hoppinggreen · 29/12/2021 18:16

I put water in the last bit but then use it to clean the sink

I do that too
Mol1628 · 29/12/2021 18:18

I water it down. Well actually it just means I don’t put that splash of water on at the start to froth it up.

hivemindneeded · 29/12/2021 18:19

Er, you do know that you immediately mix it with...water?

Nothing wrong with not wasting the last of the hand soap by diluting it. Very wasteful not to.

TinyLittlePandaSneeze · 29/12/2021 18:20

Pour the last bits of every soap into one bottle each time so you make a nice rainbow stripey soap?

imsureineverdo · 29/12/2021 18:28

I'd hate that, but you don't need a "new" one, just refill?

Hawkins001 · 29/12/2021 18:30

The problem with watering it down, would this not lead to a reduced concentration of the effectiveness of the hand wash ?
