Please solve an on going domestic disagreement.

My OH waters down hand soap when it comes to the end to make it last longer, I think this is ming and think he should just open a new one… he disagrees!

YABU- it’s fine to water down hand soap
YANBU- it’s ming to water down hand soap!

Just buy the refill bags instead of a whole new plastic bottle. Solves this problem and marginally kinder to the polar bears (I hope).

FredtheCatsMum · 29/12/2021 18:42

Use a bar - less plastic. Save up bits in a jar, add hot water and fill an old hand soap bottle.

Furrydogmum · 29/12/2021 18:45

My future DIL does this! Goes all down my front when I'm least expecting it! Their house purchase should complete next week Grin I'm trying to be serene..

DukkaTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 29/12/2021 18:45

Bar soap goes disgusting though. I water down soap a bit to get the last dregs out.

woodhill · 29/12/2021 18:59

I do the same with the washing up liquid

QueenJeanie · 29/12/2021 19:06

NO NO NO NO NO!

Watering down hand soap is an abomination!

It ends up going everywhere - usually on my top 🙄

Drives me insane

Luckily DH no longer does it...

AnonAnom940 · 29/12/2021 19:08

Water the very last non pumpable bit down. I don't replace the pump though. So I just tip enough watery soap onto my dry hands, lather as usual and rinse

NewBeta · 29/12/2021 19:08

Ming

Puremule · 29/12/2021 19:09

I can’t bear it. For the sake of getting every last scabby bit out of a bottle that is not expensive anyway.

HipposHaveNipples · 29/12/2021 19:10

YABU for saying 'ming'.

Xmasgetaway · 29/12/2021 19:10

My dad does this with milk! Pours water into the bottle when it’s almost all gone, shakes it to gather any last milky flecks and pours it into his tea. Vom!

inmyslippers · 29/12/2021 19:11

I don't understand this. You can buy soap for £1. It's not frugal it's just cheap

Mofomo · 29/12/2021 19:11

Yabu to use the word ming

Cocomarine · 29/12/2021 19:11

It’s fine, you’re being ridiculous.

Whitefire · 29/12/2021 19:12

What's Ming about it? It is water and soap. We do this, but too often DD gets there first and she puts too much water in, just enough to get that layer off the bottom is all that is needed.

WonderfulYou · 29/12/2021 19:13

Why is it Ming?

There will be water in the hand wash anyway so adding more water to it and swishing it around properly isn’t going to make much difference.

The issue is when it’s less than a quarter full and someone fills it with water to the top.

There’s a limit of how much you can dilute it.
After that add it to the new bottle.

TabithaTittlemouse · 29/12/2021 19:13

I’ve never heard of anyone doing this!
Can you keep your own secret one stashed by the lavatory?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/12/2021 19:14

I do this when there's a bit left at the bottom but usually swirl it around then pour it over my hand.

SweetPetrichor · 29/12/2021 19:18

We water down the last little bit so it’s not wasted. It’s not about the cost - it just seems stupid to waste it perfectly usable soap! Although we now moved to refilling permanent dispensers, so it’s a mute point…now I just top them up.

InTheLabyrinth · 29/12/2021 19:22

DH does this, and it enrages me so much. It just splashes everywhere when its watery.
Thankfully, its only the kitchen one he can get me on, as we have bar soap upstairs.
The covid 'dispenser pumps are in short supply' has worked in my favour - now we need to refill rather than water down to make use if every last drop!

supersop60 · 29/12/2021 19:28

@user1493494961

I water it down to get the last drop.
I turn it upside down so it drips down, and I still get the last drop. DP waters it down because he is tight. False economy because it's less effective, so you use more.
FruitMelange · 29/12/2021 19:33

I used to do this, then googled it because family complained, and I found that some websites said it can cause bacteria to grow in it if you just use tapwater. Don't know how true this is but it's put me off. I use bar soap now. Just for me, not for guests. There is some unadulterated squirty soap available by the sink as well.

speakout · 29/12/2021 19:33

Although we now moved to refilling permanent dispensers, so it’s a mute point…now I just top them up.

I do this too- I buy big bottles of bath foam and refill the fancy dispensers. My OH thinks he has bubble baths in Radox, it's actually Morrisons Value bubble bath, I just keep topping it up- have done for yeras- he's never noticed.

ThinWomansBrain · 29/12/2021 19:35

leave it in the bathroom/kitchen for him to use.
start a new bottle.

speakout · 29/12/2021 19:37

I only use bar sopa for myself, but keep it for me- other family members treat my soap badly! They leave it sticky and slimy at the bottom of the bath, my mother instists on putting it in a plastic soap dish which is alays fill of sludgy slime, and it gets stuck with pubic hairs, So I have a high shelf with a flat river stone that keeps my pristine bar- jusr for me.
