I usually keep them but over the years there's so many feel bad binning them but I hate clutter and junk

@Pleasegodgotosleep

Give them to the kids for arts and crafts
I do this too. (But only since last year). It's proven surprisingly useful when every book project and history project seems to require a poster!

Cut them in to tags. It’s a job I sometimes do before the decorations go back in the loft so they’re all ready for next year.

I do like the idea of turning the fronts into Xmas bunting though.

bedtimestories · 30/12/2021 14:13

After a tip on here, I'll now be using the backs as scrap paper and continue to use the fronts as gift tags. I do the same with birthday cards

shouldistop · 30/12/2021 14:15

My 5yo ds draws on them then they go in the recycling

neatlittlerows · 30/12/2021 22:51

I keep the important ones (parents, husband, child) and the rest are recycled. Very grateful I kept the old ones so I still have cards from my mum after she died this year.

LeQuern · 31/12/2021 13:18

@sandgrown

The people who chuck them straight in the bin have probably already packed the decorations away on Boxing Day! Many people enjoy sending and receiving cards and spreading a bit of Christmas joy but each to their own.
Nope. My tree will be up till 12th Night. It’s just the cards I dislike.
LeQuern · 31/12/2021 13:23

(I also have bookcases AND windowsills!)

loopylindi · 31/12/2021 13:36

Cut down, perforate, add gold thread. Package in 10s Into cellophane bags and donate to sell for charity.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 31/12/2021 13:46

Another here who dislikes Xmas cards. Mu tree is still up!

IMHO, Xmas cards just make the place look so scruffy.

Mine get recycled.

People who keep 'important' ones, what do you do with them?

qualitygirl · 31/12/2021 15:32

@sandgrown...wrong! My tree is still up Grin

No. Trees still up, all 5 of them. And all the decorations. 🎄

anxiousstanley · 31/12/2021 15:43

I get them. Put them in a pile not even putting them up. Then throw them straight in recycling. Cards are a complete waste of resources. I don't send them and I'm not that bothered about getting any.

londonmummy1966 · 31/12/2021 16:20

We got about 80 cards this year - that is down on when we moved in 20 years ago and used to get more than 250. Now they get strung on ribbon and hung up along the arch between the 2 halves of the sitting room. It's quite festive and easy to just add more to as they arrive. WHen they come down I might keep one or two if they are especially lovely - one of my friends usually finds one that is a minature work of art. The rest go to one of the old people's homes around here who collect them for their residents to use for scrapbooking.

I used to use them for making gift tags but now I use the card and ribbon off our crackers for that as I prefer the wrapping to look a bit more uniform.

Having said that I've just found this selection of things to make from old Christmas cards........

JaneJeffer · 31/12/2021 16:49

I'm saving all mine to make a bookcase out of.

PinkSyCo · 31/12/2021 17:03

I only keep the homemade ones or any with especially nice words written by the giver. The rest I just put into the recycling bin.

Awalkintime · 31/12/2021 17:08

Cut the backs off and take the fronts into work for the EYFS children to cut and stick with. I also ask parents to do the same.
