I usually keep them but over the years there's so many feel bad binning them but I hate clutter and junk

@HopeYourHighHorseBucks

Why are people getting bitchy over Christmas cards and what people do with them? It's ridiculous

Ti's the season falalalalala.

Nothing says festive like throwing a dig about cards and bookcases. Strangest assumption I've seen yet.

Anyway, I keep them with the decorations and hang them again next year as my young DD loves to keep them. Or I keep the front for crafts.

I think I may start keeping the few I have, since nobody but my mother and older Aunts send them. It may actually give the illusion I have friends 😆
ufucoffee · 29/12/2021 15:33

Just counted ours up. We have received 39 Christmas cards.

FruitMelange · 29/12/2021 15:35

Please, if you’re going to bin your cards immediately, let the sender know so they can stop sending to you. Nice cards and stamps aren’t cheap

I haven't sent Xmas cards in over 20 years so everyone knows I don't. I also remind them from time to time. But still, they come.

I only send to my mum and older relatives. My mum would be so unhappy if she didn't receive one. My sons and I don't even exchange birthday cards. We all decided it was a waste of paper when living in the same house. We just do a big hug instead 😆
FruitMelange · 29/12/2021 15:41

I’ve got a funny feeling bookcases aren’t going to feature in these houses

They feature in mine because they reach the ceiling so no cards on top, and the shelves have books on.

Why not, maybe use your less dominant hand and write a few to yourself Grin If you went by the cards I put out then a bunch of 4 years old send me cards every year. Which is weird.

That would mean I'd have to buy them in the first place. When I was younger I used to make individual ones with cartoons on for everyone, mind I used to iron knickers at one point too 😆
TowandaForever · 29/12/2021 15:47

You can't recycle them if they have glitter on.

Laiste · 29/12/2021 15:50

@WakeUpLockie

Cut the front off for gift tags for next year. Only got about 6 cards this year so that tradition is about to end!!! :(
Same. When i actually get around to sitting down and cutting them (Jan sometime) i find it quite fun! Some cards yield 3/4 tags if you cut them carefully Grin

However the last few years the numbers have gone down. I hardly send any now either so can't really complain ...

MarmaladeCloud · 29/12/2021 15:50

I use some to make name tags for presents next year. I don't keep the rest.

Elphame · 29/12/2021 15:52

We don't get many and most of those are corporates. My friends and relatives know my feelings about cards!

All are consigned to recycling and those with glitter just binned.

IncompleteSenten · 29/12/2021 15:52

Put them in the recycling whenever possible.
I ask most people to not send cards (in a nice way) so we only get a few now from older relatives because I know it matters to them so I haven't asked them to stop.

PussGirl · 29/12/2021 15:53

I keep the odd one with handwritten messages inside & recycle the rest.

housemaus · 29/12/2021 15:57

Keep ones from the people I'm really close to (I'm a sentimental bastard).

Bin the rest.

Gertie75 · 29/12/2021 16:03

Mine have gone on the recycling bin today and I've kept the two that dd's have made at school.

I hate to admit that a lot went straight into the recycling before Christmas, I just don't have the room to display them, I put the ones from immediate family up but the kids bring home 25+each from school plus ones from my work and dh's work and neighbours.

bubble2000 · 29/12/2021 16:05

I keep all the cards with Christmas decorations until next year - then I reread them , smile and use the beautiful pictures for gift tags 🎁 🥳🥰

thetinsoldier · 29/12/2021 16:13

Cut off the backs and use them as tags!

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 29/12/2021 16:14

After the festive period the few that we get go into recycling. We stopped sending cards out years ago. So did a lot of our friends.

TenoringBehind · 29/12/2021 16:16

Use them to make tags the following Christmas .

qualitygirl · 29/12/2021 16:18

@MerryChristmas21 I don't have any windowsills sorry...nor do I have bookcase in the main living area. I'm not putting hooks into my wall for 4/5 cards. Why does it bother you so much?

alwaysmovingforwards · 29/12/2021 16:19

@Vegetalienne

Thankfully we only get a few from older family members. They’re put in the recycling straight after opening.
Likewise
bubble2000 · 29/12/2021 16:20

I keep with the christmas decorations and next year use as gift tags 🎁 ( after rereading one final time)

qualitygirl · 29/12/2021 16:22

@husbandcallsmepickle no I don't have bookcases or shelves in the main area...I have one shelf in the kitchen but it's working shelf (as in it's has stuff I use on it daily, tea, sugar etc so they would be in the way!)
No windowsills either...

qualitygirl · 29/12/2021 16:23

@husbandcallsmepickle yes birthday cards go in the bin too...what's the point in keeping them for a week or so? They'll end up in the bin anyway Confused

HideousKinky · 29/12/2021 16:24

I keep the ones that are special in some way eg I have an artist friend who always sends one she has made herself - far too beautiful to throw away!

I do the shopping list thing with the rest
