Recycling. I try not to keep too much stuff and Christmas cards are displayed in the hallway for December and rhen recycled. Thankfully receive a lot less these days

MintJulia · 29/12/2021 16:27

Cut them up to make tags for next year, and use the rest to help light the log burner.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 29/12/2021 16:28

I keep the childrens cards

Other cards i keep if i like the picture as i use them to decorate the bookshelves for future Christmas’

evilharpy · 29/12/2021 16:29

We used to always keep them to make tags the following year with pinking shears. When my daughter was a bit smaller she liked cutting out the pictures and sticking them on a piece of paper to make little scenes. We didn't get many at all this year though, they seem to be dying out.

I do really like them but we really don't have anywhere to display them and if you blu tack them to the walls it always leaves a greasy mark. My parents used to get a huge number every year (I remember one year my mum counted nearly 200) and they would blu tack them to the bannisters, stand them all over the fireplace and a big cabinet we had in the living room, hook them over pictures etc etc - every surface covered with them. After Christmas my mum would always keep them indefinitely and when they eventually downsized they had thousands of Christmas (and birthday etc) cards to get rid of.

I cut them up into present labels for next year's Christmas. Some with nice bird/animal illustrations end up in the craft box I keep for the grandkids.

saltandherbsandnothingnice · 29/12/2021 16:30

Next year's gift labels!

coviduality · 29/12/2021 16:34

Hopefully Christmas cards, along with birthday cards, are a dying thing! The blessed relief a few years ago of realising that I don't have to send them just because my parents did!
I find it really peculiar when people my age send cards, just call me or send me a text if you want to wish me happy Christmas! Don't buy a card, post a card, just for me to read it (same message as would be in a text) and put it in the bin! So wasteful! And don't get me started on the reams and reams of wrapping paper!
It's really been making me laugh this year, going on zooms with my parents and in laws and their friends, seeing their mantelpieces and wooden beams and windows festooned with cards, to show how many friends they have! Definitely a dying trend for sure! Xmas Grin

Svara · 29/12/2021 16:34
@Vegetalienne I do the same...I hate clutter. I have a very minimalist house and I don't have mantelpiece so I open, read them and pop them in the bin. I'm not sure what people expect me to do with them Confused
I have a very minimalist house but cards are strung up on ribbon as decorations for the Christmas season. Means the house looks decorated without me having to store many decorations.

qualitygirl · 29/12/2021 17:04

@Svara yes I decorate accordingly, I have 3 trees and a few other little things and lights outside. I like to keep things simple

Shebangshebong · 29/12/2021 17:20

Green bin.

girlmom21 · 29/12/2021 17:23

@Shebangshebong

Green bin.
What's your green bin for? Our green bin is garden waste.
OhGiveUp · 29/12/2021 17:27

I put them on the fire.

longtompot · 29/12/2021 17:30

I cut the front off and reuse as gift tags.

Redglitter · 29/12/2021 17:34

They’re put in the recycling straight after opening

I do that too. Thankfully the number I get is dropping every year. I.put up my family cards but that's all

Agadorsparticus · 29/12/2021 17:44

Recycle all cards here. Birthday cards stay up for a week and Xmas cards came down today.

Atla · 29/12/2021 17:47

Recycle

ParkheadParadise · 29/12/2021 17:51

They went in the Blue Recycle bin on Boxing day.

PriamFarrl · 29/12/2021 17:54

Mine go on the top of units in the living room until we take the decorations down.

CSJobseeker · 29/12/2021 17:55

The fronts make excellent labels for next year's Xmas presents. The backs I recycle.

user1471443411 · 29/12/2021 17:55

This year I'm going to keep them to remind me who to do cards for next year, as I didn't do any this year (couldn't be bothered). I'm going to make an effort next year though and do them early.
Normally I choose any that have suitable designs/pictures and cut round the edge with pinking shears, punch a hole in the corner and make into gift tags.

BringBackThinEyebrows · 29/12/2021 17:58

I display them then put them in the recycling.

MerryChristmas21 · 29/12/2021 18:05
@MerryChristmas21 I don't have any windowsills sorry...nor do I have bookcase in the main living area. I'm not putting hooks into my wall for 4/5 cards. Why does it bother you so much?
You asked a question, I replied. I don't think that makes me 'so bothered'!

StoneofDestiny · 29/12/2021 18:18

Recycle after Christmas.

Pieceofpurplesky · 29/12/2021 20:09

I don't do cards and haven't done for many years (other than immediate family). People still send them and I keep them in a gift bag under the tree until the decorations come down (my mum loves to read them). My local shop collects and recycled them in to crafty things to sell.

And I don’t have bookcases because I don’t have many books. I use a kindle. That’s probably joyless too. 😂
No that to me is fantastic. I've always had physical books and felt awful getting rid, now I don't have that problem“

Some of our books are 120 years old and to me that’s fantastic. We all read them. No batteries required.

Each to their own.
