(Lighthearted because knowing me I’ve probably got totally the wrong end of the stick)
Last week I stumbled across a ring box hidden away (I honestly wasn’t snooping I just accidentally found it while putting something away). Obviously I didn’t say anything. But now we’ve had Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day and no proposal.
I’m just baffled generally tbh as we’re not that type of couple, we’ve always said when we want to get married we’ll just start planning it together. We’ve had quite an up and down year with covid obviously and DP got ill in the summer, but we also had our first successful pregnancy so I thought maybe he’d decided to make a big gesture. But nothing.
Has he changed his mind? 😂
Was it not actually for me? 😂
It’s so silly I just keep laughing at myself. What’s going on?? 😂😂

Open the box, take a photo, post it here. Job done.

We're too polite to mention it.

We noticed.

I know someone who bought a ring and then went on holiday with his girlfriend. Spent all week on tenterhooks suggesting romantic moonlit walks, and nothing quite went right so he came back to work on the Monday and sheepishly admitted that he hadn’t asked her yet. It might be like that - he might have been going to propose on Christmas Day but the baby started crying, or the phone rang or something.

Lifeboats2022 · 27/12/2021 22:25

Makes me think of the thread that was deleted about the drunk woman rejecting the much wanted proposal as it wasn't "right". Maybe he was a step ahead and the moments haven't been right.

DropYourSword · 27/12/2021 22:27

Ok, so I get that you don’t want to open the box and look at the ring and spoil the surprise...buuuut how about you close your eyes and open it and at least tell whether it’s a ring -or bloody cuff links-

DoncasterHombre · 27/12/2021 22:27

It's a tree. Trees have rings and I was merely speculating that there may or may not be a row brewing.

"Too poilite", my arse. Filthy minds and seeing what you want to see is more like it.

What happened in the end on that thread @Lifeboats2022?

There’s a Scottish tradition* that you kiss your darling first after the bells and you’ll still be together at the end of the year. I think that’s why there are so many proposals on Jan 1st.

*Maybe Irish as it’s my Irish grandparents who always insisted on it.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 27/12/2021 22:31

Cba to rtft so NYE 🤷🏼‍♀️

Lifeboats2022 · 27/12/2021 22:32

@Lalliella it was deleted for what I can assume were privacy reasons. Ie OP realised what a dick she had been. It wasn't a troll.

Kite22 · 27/12/2021 22:35

I've read through 9 pages now, so am invested in the outcome too.

Charmatt · 27/12/2021 22:36

How can you not open the box???

WhoUsedMyName · 27/12/2021 22:41

This is giving me anxiety I can't cope.... just open the box! Please 😂

tapeandglue · 27/12/2021 22:43

9 pages in, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think anyone has considered the possibility that the OP's OH is hanging onto the ring for a mate? Precisely so his friend's partner doesn't come across it like the OP?

It's entirely possible it's not for the OP and also not for a bad reason (as per Love Actually).

OP - does your DP have any close unmarried mates in serious relationships?

YoBeaches · 27/12/2021 22:44

@HaveringWavering most medics involved in pregnancy after loss only ever refer to you potentially having a 'successful pregnancy' or even 'live birth' and the use of language does rub off on you a bit. Especially if you've been through it a few times it becomes a bit of a clinical, coping mechanism.

Anyway, place-marking, I wanna see what's in the box??!!!

Earrrrr · 27/12/2021 22:46

It’s obviously a reference to previous pregnancy losses, still an odd way to say it though after the baby has arrived.

It's really not Confused

ironorchids · 27/12/2021 23:01

Placemarking.. I need to know

Somebody actually did say that near the beginning of the thread
Nikki360 · 27/12/2021 23:10

I also need to know the ending to this story !

Totally agree. Once you've sat in the recurrent miscarriage clinic a few times, and had a few ERPCs, then had to tell everyone all about it multiple times throughout your (9 month) pregnancy 'successful pregnancy' and 'live births' are terms as strange but familiar as 'self isolation.'
