To wonder why I didn’t get engaged this weekend?

(Lighthearted because knowing me I’ve probably got totally the wrong end of the stick)
Last week I stumbled across a ring box hidden away (I honestly wasn’t snooping I just accidentally found it while putting something away). Obviously I didn’t say anything. But now we’ve had Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day and no proposal.
I’m just baffled generally tbh as we’re not that type of couple, we’ve always said when we want to get married we’ll just start planning it together. We’ve had quite an up and down year with covid obviously and DP got ill in the summer, but we also had our first successful pregnancy so I thought maybe he’d decided to make a big gesture. But nothing.
Has he changed his mind? 😂
Was it not actually for me? 😂
It’s so silly I just keep laughing at myself. What’s going on?? 😂😂

I just went to open the drawer and he (already in bed) said he thought he’d left the kitchen light on and could I go down and check 🙄
So anyway I think (hope) it is for me and I’m down here laughing at him now 😂
He does have mates that could propose at any time but I’d be surprised if he didn’t tell me if he was looking after a ring for them.
He’d better do something soon, I’m getting bored now 😂

Seriously though, fingers crossed for a new year proposal. You have to invite everyone who's contributed to your post though!

If you are going out on NYE (and you have already said on mumsnet, that you would hate to be proposed to in front of people), practice your saying yes with enthusiasm, (if you want to marry him), because you are not going to be too surprised, so just be happy even though it is not exactly what you would like. He is possibly going to propose in front of your friends/family and he thinks it is a good idea. If you love him and want to marry him then just go with it and be happy 😃 good luck OP.

My guess is he'll have moved it somewhere else

What if he realised it's the wrong size (tried it on you whilst you were sleeping) and needs to take it back?
Is he waiting for you to do your nails maybe so you get a nice pic after?
Or could be waiting to ask after you get back from your meal?
Could be New Years day?

Does it have to be on a ‘special day’. When we were talking about marriage DH kept hinting it might happen at Christmas. Then he booked a spa day and my mum (who was in on it) casually said ‘oh why don’t I look after DS and you two can have the night away’. That was when he proposed and I have to say, it was so romantic and I loved the surprise.

Don't look in the box! - How awful - poor guy :( You're going to spoil the surprise.
Tbf dp has done this himself by leaving the box in a easily accessible drawer that OP will open regularly

It’s probably got his baby teeth in it , my mum gave me mine in a necklace shaped box after she had a clear out.
Seeing their only dc is not yet a year old, I'd be highly concerned to find a box of baby teeth in a drawer. Not sure why this is being considered an option 😬
