To find the days in between Xmas and new year depressing?

I don't mind Boxing Day but today I feel very blah and down in the dumps like I don't know what to do with myself. My daughter is at her dads till tomorrow so I'm going to the shop to get a few bits I need then home for a shower and some wine and dinner later on. However, I just feel like I should be doing something else. I feel antsy and unsure of what I am meant to be doing.

What is everyone else up to?

I’m a bit like that. I’m going to clear out a couple of drawers of underwear and night things to see what actually fits. Have done with other clothes the can cull further.

TeacherMa · 27/12/2021 12:48

These are my favourite days! Xmas and boxing day I'm travelling around visiting various people. These next few days are all about lounging. eating all the chocs, watching telly and just doing whatever I like really.

FangsForTheMemory · 27/12/2021 12:50

I find them weird. It's a kind of limbo.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 27/12/2021 12:52

I'm back to work today so yes at finding them depressing. If I wasn't I'd be super happy 😆

We walk the dogs, drink mid afternoon, eat cheese and random meals of leftovers, sleep and read books. One family visit later in the week but otherwise we hibernate till January.

stargirl1701 · 27/12/2021 12:52

You are meant to be doing what suits you. Learning to 'just be' with yourself. It is a marked contrast to our over scheduled lives in the rest of the year.

Today I have made soup for lunch, helped DD1 with her crystal growing kit, read another chapter of Harry Potter to DD1, taken the dog for a walk and read the newspaper. No-one needs anything; the relief is sheer bliss.

Same here. I’ve just started planning next years garden this morning. That always cheers me up.

StColumbofNavron · 27/12/2021 12:53

Rather than do all my meet-ups pre Christmas, I have a few over the next few days.

Various admin things. I love the thread about filling in your diary/planner.

thegcatsmother · 27/12/2021 12:53

Those days now seem to have been labelled Twixmas. They are my favourite days of the year. I don't cook; we might see friends, but there is no pressure to go anywhere or do anything. I can read, sleep, veg out, and it recharges my batteries for January.

StrangerThanSpring · 27/12/2021 12:53

I love them!

I just love lounging around, eating chocolate and not feeling guilty about not doing stuff.

Moonflower12345 · 27/12/2021 12:54

Yes, I find it really dull. We always used to go away between Christmas and New Year. Even if it was just one night in a nice hotel with a nice meal. Decided against it this year but regretting that now.

galacticpixels · 27/12/2021 12:56

I have the week off work and I love these days. I use them to quickly "reset'' myself after Christmas, get back to eating healthy and getting lots of walks in. I also tend to read a lot this week and just enjoy having nowhere I actually have to be.

Oblomov21 · 27/12/2021 13:00

These are my favourite. A bit of pottering around, a couple of bits, very little.

PollyIndia · 27/12/2021 13:01

This is my favourite week of the year. Nothing to do. I do a bit of yoga, long dog walks, watch films with my son. Currently eating a whole baked camembert for lunch. What's not to love. Empty days are bliss.

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 13:07

This are my favourite days, just pure relaxation & few demands. Have some things booked eg theatre, cinema.

Minniem2020 · 27/12/2021 13:08

I find them really miserable. All the excitement leading up to Xmas then it's all over. I'm also back at work which hasn't helped.

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 13:08

Today I'm clearing some stuff out for the charity shop

wallypopz · 27/12/2021 13:09

I can read, sleep, veg out, and it recharges my batteries for January.

yep

Tooboo · 27/12/2021 13:10

DH has got Covid so is glued to the sofa by his own sweat.

So I’m doing some art work in my woman cave and then plan to get pissed by myself. Oh what a life

Pegasussnail · 27/12/2021 13:11

We are going away for a night so I will pack for that later.
Today I'm clearing leaves and I repotted plants. Will take ds to argos to get a game with his Christmas money. Fajitas (turkey Xmas Wink ) for dinner

Bagamoyo1 · 27/12/2021 13:13

I know what you mean OP. And the weather isn’t helping because it’s just constant rain.

maya71 · 27/12/2021 13:14

The week between Christmas and New Year is my favourite of the year. We go for walks/runs then chill in the living room reading or watching TV & eating cheese and chocolate.

2reefsin30knots · 27/12/2021 13:14

I love them! Days when you can just completely do your own thing (if you are off work).

There is a novel called The Book of Dead Days suggesting they are "a strange, a quiet interlude, somehow outside the rest of the year, outside time itself."

icedcoffees · 27/12/2021 13:14

I hated them when I had to work them, but now they're some of my favourite days of the year.

No alarms, no early mornings, no rushing around, no pressure - it's so nice to have some time to just "be".

Today, I had a lie-in, took the dog for a walk and now we're finishing watching the Harry Potter films. Tomorrow we're meeting up with friends for a beagle meet on the beach for a couple of hours, then back home for a shower and hot chocolate.

The rest of the week is much of the same - catching up on sleep, taking the dog out for some long walks, cosying up at home, eating, watching TV, reading some of the huge pile of books by my bed...

Neither DH or I are back at work until the 4th so it's really nice to just have some together with no rushing about.

NalPolishRemover · 27/12/2021 13:16

I have time off work & I LOVE these days! All the pressure of Christmas is over. I can go for a walk, lie around reading my new books, eat my chocolates, light my candles, just BE!
