No bathroom bin

Veeveeoxox · 25/12/2021 19:54

If you are at relatives house with no bathroom bins where do you put your used sanitary stuff? I've been wrapping my tampons putting in handbag and putting them in the outside bin. I would always empty the bathroom bin and my periods are very heavy so need changing frequently., SIL isnt menopausal even my dad who lives alone has bathroom bins ??!!

Bathroom bin for sanpro and other yucky bits and the recycling goes straight downstairs to the recycling bins.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/12/2021 13:58

@Sparklingbrook

I assume people that don't have a bathroom bin flush their cotton buds/ make up pads and dental floss etc Plus they're quite happy to let visitors carry used tampons etc around in their handbag til they get home. Nice.
You assume wrong! Nothing is flushed except toilet paper. Our bathroom comes off the kitchen and so there's no need for a bathroom bin you walk past the kitchen one.
tigger1001 · 27/12/2021 13:59
@tigger1001 Every bathroom can fit in a small bin. John Lewis do a plastic AnyDay one that is 30 cm high and with a swing lid. It goes alongside the loo or under the sink. I have 3, one for each loo.

I can't get my head round you traipsing outside to throw away each san towel or tampon. You must be wrapping them in their wrapper or toilet paper, I assume. Do you use a plastic bag for each one or just hurl them in your bin outside? Unless you are throwing used pads and tampons in without wrapping them, that's horrible.

Do the other people in your household see you disposing of this stuff each month? Do you have to walk through the house carrying your used san pro?

An what about hair when you clean brushes and combs?
Honestly I don't have room for a bin. I like being able to open the door and stand in front of the sink.

And even if I did I wouldn't put used sanpro in it. I find that horrible. And would have to empty it each time anyway.

No big deal to put it in the outside bin. I'm not traipsing. I'm putting stuff in the bin. Seriously no one would bat and eyelid.

These threads are always hilarious. So much hand wringing at the thought of someone choosing not to have a bin. Hilarious!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/12/2021 14:00

You can get tiny bins that do the job. I don't think I have ever been in a bathroom anywhere that cant take a small flip top bin.

By the time I've got the shower cubicle, toilet, basin, cupboards etc and cat litter tray in my bathroom there's no room for anything else.

TheNinny · 27/12/2021 14:20

My grandmothers house was like this. I’d take ziplock bags and dispose of rolled up sanitary pads in them to get binned at the next opportunity somewhere else.

Horst · 27/12/2021 14:33

The only house I’ve ever been in that had bins in the bathroom and basically everywhere was probably the dirtiest house I’d ever actually been in. We only just got a bin in the kitchen and it won’t be coming with us when we move in a few months.

Bins are right outside nice and easy to get to. Use a bag while prepping dinners or whatever then take it straight out. Nothing sitting around festering.

Nightmares over bins with old Tesco or ASda carry bags in. Also don’t buy ear buds or whatever.

RoyalFamilyFan · 27/12/2021 14:39

Bins in bathrooms are common. I am surprised you have only seen them in one house.

Horst · 27/12/2021 15:10

I did say and basically everywhere but no the posher houses I’ve been in certainly didn’t have bins on display in their bathrooms if they did have them at all. I didn’t go rummaging though their units to find out.

sherryoclock · 27/12/2021 15:21

I think flushing the odd tAmpon when staying st somebody's house is fine

londonrach · 27/12/2021 15:55

Yabu. Who doesn't have a bin. It's yucky if not.

thefamous5 · 27/12/2021 16:01

@greenanorak

So weird. Everyone needs a bathroom bin
Why?

I've managed with never having one - that's me (still having periods) and husband and four children.

ChristmasyFairy · 27/12/2021 16:06

@tigger1001 From your update, it sounds as if you have an OCD issue not a 'no space for a bin' one. If you freak out at the idea of san pro in a bathroom bin. It's only blood and your blood!

(You didn't answer what your visitors might do if they need to dispose of anything.)

Pads like Bodyform come with wrapping that can be fastened again, right around the used pad so it's 'leak free'.

Yes you are right. some people are just weird.

VanGoghsDog · 27/12/2021 17:36

It's definitely not fine at my house, the drains have been infiltrated by tree roots and stuff gets caught on them and the drains back up and overflow on my driveway, then the water co have to come and unblock it all and put notes through everyone's doors reminding them not to put stiff down the loo/other drain. Including wet wipes, tissue that isn't loo roll, pads, tampons, cotton wool, cotton buds, nappies, fat, and so on.

It's fucking disgusting, don't do it.

RoyalFamilyFan · 27/12/2021 17:42

@VanGoghsDog I hope you have a bathroom bin then? I put things in the bathroom bin. If there isn't one I flush it.

VanGoghsDog · 27/12/2021 17:48

Of course I have a bathroom bin, I'm not some kind of weirdo.

But you are anti social for flushing - ever, it should be illegal. Why don't you carry nappy bags like literally everyone else on this thread (except me who has never bought a nappy bag).

VanGoghsDog · 27/12/2021 17:50

It'd be hilarious if you were staying at mine, decided to flush your san pro and then were still there while I had to get the water co out to clear the shit off the driveway and your car couldn't be moved because of it and the water co van was parked in front. Oh what larks, how we'd all laugh!

RoyalFamilyFan · 27/12/2021 17:54

Yes absolutely hilarious.
I am not carrying a bloody tampax in my coat pocket.

Sunset999 · 27/12/2021 17:56

Find it very weird that some people don't have a bathroom bin , how odd???

Sparklingbrook · 27/12/2021 18:11

There's also a lot of hand wringing over people choosing to have a bin TBF. But the vote is pretty clear.

I don't have ocd. But think leaving 8-10 (as quoted by a previous poster) used sanpro in an indoor bin (assuming it's emptied daily) is pretty rank to me. Far easier to dispose of outside as and when required. It's just not a big deal to me. Others use a bin and that's up to them.

I don't know what guests do. Put them in the outside bin I would imagine. Or maybe use reusable sanpro. I'm not getting a bin (still don't have room for it) in order that someone might occasionally use it to dispose of their used sanpro. I certainly don't want to deal with that!

Given more and more women are using reusable sanpro I can't imagine it's much of an issue anyway.

If you want a bin, have one. That's fine. It's just as fine for these of us who don't want one.

The hand wringing is just hilarious! My god I've heard it all now - if you don't have a bathroom bin you have ocd. It just couldn't possibly be different people do different things??

The only thing I would agree with is don't flush sanpro down the toilet. That's just asking for issues.

Not from me. I couldn't care less if someone has a bin in their own bathroom. I just find these threads hilarious. All pearl clutching " but what will your guests do"

But on this thread alone, people have said it's minging not to have one. I've now been called ocd. Just because I don't have one. Despite me saying I don't have room (and I don't) people think I'm lying or tell me of just pop to The shops and get a mini one, they take up next to no room.

Only on Mumsnet is this even a debate. Next it will be toilet brushes.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/12/2021 18:23

@tigger1001 I don't have room for one either. My bathroom is small and the only place a bin could go is where the cat litter tray or stuck out in the bathroom. I'm sure no one is traumatised by having to use the kitchen bin!

Not sure about 'Hilarious!' But it's up there with cat poo in the garden and eating food in the supermarket before you have paid for it for dividing opinions on MN.
There's never a conclusion but everyone defends their right to have on/not have one and then gets on with their lives. Grin

It's certainly made me laugh today when waiting for the teenager to come out of the shops.

So much " but what will your guests do?" Or telling me I have ocd. Or my favourite telling me I have to wake up as plenty people using my toilet may have sanpro or Tena pants to dispose of.

It's certainly made a boring afternoon of hanging around much more fun than it otherwise could have been!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/12/2021 18:45

It never fails to amaze me how many posters don't seem to understand that peoples circumstances might be different to theirs. In this case you must have room for a bathroom bin, as if no one could have a tiny bathroom.

I was told once that it's not possible for my garden to be 8' wide (the garden for the upstairs flat runs next to mine) and when I was really struggling with WFH I was told everyone had room for a desk, get one that folds against the wall. I don't have a spare wall to attach it to but apparently that's making excuses and I should get rid of my furniture!
