No bathroom bin

If you are at relatives house with no bathroom bins where do you put your used sanitary stuff? I've been wrapping my tampons putting in handbag and putting them in the outside bin. I would always empty the bathroom bin and my periods are very heavy so need changing frequently., SIL isnt menopausal even my dad who lives alone has bathroom bins ??!!

Actually now I've written that I realise how bloody irritating and disrespectful I find it for guests to have to carry used sanpro with them. You should never flush it!

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2021 20:31

I just wish people would think of their visitors.

greenanorak · 25/12/2021 20:31

@Bluntness100

I just can’t imagine making my female guests walk through the house with used sanitary protection. The mind boggles. They can flush it or use the bathroom bins, I would never ask. And the bin liner is simply picked up and emptied with the rest of the trash.

I’d prefer to miss a few recyclables rather than make my friends walk through my house carrying their used sanitary protection.

Exactly
Queenoftheashes · 25/12/2021 20:33

A Pp makes a good point. As if you clean hair out of the drain during a shower and then have to go and find a kitchen bin.

greenanorak · 25/12/2021 20:33

While I'm here, can I say that not putting spare loo rolls in the bathrooms is equally as annoying as not having a bin.

Woofydogg · 25/12/2021 20:34

I never knew this was an issue Blush. It would not cross my mind to put a bin in the downstairs loo, but I also have a weird sewage system and cannot have sanitary products flushed down the loo under any circumstance as it will block.

I don’t have periods though, hence why this has never been thought of. I guess I had better get a bin!

^this 100x

How awful to make guests wrap san pro in loo roll and carry through the house! And the thought of san pro in my kitchen makes me heave.
Also, don't people floss or remove make up? Used up loo rolls? My bathroom bin is always full.

Jemimapuddleduk · 25/12/2021 20:38

Omg how is it right to put used san pro in the kitchen bin!! We have bins in all the bathrooms, not just for sanpro but condoms, cotton wool, dental floss, hair from shower etc etc. and a huge seperate nappy bin for autistic ds who is in continence products. There is absolutely so way I would expect guests to traipse through the house with used sanpro or used continence products or have to put in their handbag 🤮. I empty them every feW days.

NichyNoo · 25/12/2021 20:38

Wrap it in loo roll and walk through to the kitchen and put in kitchen bin. Not a big deal.

SwishSwishBisch · 25/12/2021 20:38

Ew. You non bathroom bin people are mingers.

I’m assuming the sanpro isn’t dripping with blood, seeping through the woman’s fingers as she trails it through the house! So it’s fine to roll it up in loo roll and pop it in the kitchen bin.
Blueeilidh · 25/12/2021 20:41

I have two bathroom bins, a small lidded one so no smell and a tub for recycling. I avoid having to change sanitary products in some one else's house. I wouldn't be keen to have to carry through the house to the kitchen bin

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2021 20:42

Would you expect visitors to do this? Really? Sad
Cuck00soup · 25/12/2021 20:46

Eewww. Just get a bathroom bin.

Grimchmas · 25/12/2021 20:46

As a guest either in a home or a hotel I put used sanpro in a tied up bag and take it home with me Xmas Blush I know it's probably a bit OTT, but it doesn't smell if tied in a plastic bag (yes excess plastic but I only do this when away from home) and I just think it's nicer for my hosts, including any housekeeping staff in a hotel.

Years and years ago as a teen my mum bought me scented sanitary disposal bags. Since I only use them when away from home it took years to use them up, and I have no idea if you can still buy them? But I have a dog, I use dog poo bags these days!

Grimchmas · 25/12/2021 20:48

I think sanitary wear in a kitchen bin is weird - especially in somebody else's kitchen bin!

RoyalFamilyFan · 25/12/2021 20:50

I am NOT walking through a friend or relatives house carrying a wrapped used tampon and towel to put in the kitchen bin. Personally, I think it is much worse in the kitchen bin than a bathroom bin. If there is no bathroom bin I put it in the outside bin, or if just a tampax I would flush it.

Jemimapuddleduk · 25/12/2021 20:50

@NichyNoo I can’t assume whether my guests may have a really heavy period or use continence products. As such I wouldn’t expect them to walk through house with these products. A bathroom bin does the trick and makes it more comfortable for everyone.

Cheesywhine · 25/12/2021 20:51

Do people not flush tampons.

littlepeas · 25/12/2021 20:51

Surely you just bag it up and take it with you to dispose of in your own bin? I’ve never left used tampons in someone else’s bin. Always took nappies home with me too, when dc were small.

RoyalFamilyFan · 25/12/2021 20:51

@Blueeilidh I sometimes had to change every hour. I am not staying in the house when bleeding heavily.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2021 20:53

@Cheesywhine

Do people not flush tampons.
I sincerely hope not. Angry
Jemimapuddleduk · 25/12/2021 20:54

@Cheesywhine no because they block the drains and cause havoc with water treatment plants.

grapewine · 25/12/2021 20:54

Absolutely agree.

But then I have a loo brush as well.

BabyPotato · 25/12/2021 20:55

This.

I would never ever let my guests feel like they have to stash used tampons in a flipping dog poo bag and take them home or try and hide them in my kitchen bin. That's beyond awkward. And I very rarely even have guests. Just get a bathroom bin FFS.
