If you are at relatives house with no bathroom bins where do you put your used sanitary stuff? I've been wrapping my tampons putting in handbag and putting them in the outside bin. I would always empty the bathroom bin and my periods are very heavy so need changing frequently., SIL isnt menopausal even my dad who lives alone has bathroom bins ??!!

Don't u all have to then go back up to the bathroom to wash your hands a second time?

Re usables u are already set up with the ways and means to store and transport back home.

Disposable stuff not so much.

Seems a bit harsh to guests especially of you have teenage girls over at any point.

But if you don't have guests or daughters I guess u would be OK.

Love how storing a product in the designed method/set up is apparently gross but wandering around the house with used stuff wrapped in toilet paper isn't.

Could only be on MN

@RoyalFamilyFan

Because lots of people would take it off you to put in the kitchen bin.
I wouldn't. That is not an invitation for you to come round and deposit body fluids in my bathroom bin. You will have to deal with these issues by yourself.

This

it feels so undignified to have to carry bloody sanpro in a bag trying not to be spotted go outside and put in the outdoor bin while trying to pretend not to be doing anything.

And this

Why should we have to hide periods in the 21st century

Don't exactly match up, do they? We don't have a bathroom bin and I don't have to make it some secret mission to dispose of my tampons in the kitchen bin. If someone sees what I'm doing, I couldn't care less. It's 2021, most people who would be in my house either have had periods at some point in their life or live with someone who has. We all know periods happen, it's natural and a fact of life.

limitedperiodonly · 26/12/2021 18:48

@Bluntness100 My family and friends understand that none of us wants body fluids in our bathroom bins. None of us goes in for passive aggressive notes or anything cocky like that. That's why I know you and I could never be friends.

RoseyLentil · 26/12/2021 19:12

We have a bathroom bin. We only put stuff that can't be recycled into it though. Stuff that can be recycled gets taken downstairs and put into the relevant recycling box.

tigger1001 · 26/12/2021 19:21

"I'm trying to imagine where your bin is @tigger1001 :)

Our bin (for rubbish) is out of the front door, down 6 steps, and across the drive to the corner where the bins stay.

The drive is also shared by 3 other houses who could see their neighbours putting stuff in the bin.

Fine if your bin is right next to your door, but surely you don't go out to dispose of a single pad or tampon pro several times a day? Or do you 'harvest it' in some bag inside then take it outside?"

Surely it's not hard to imagine that different people have different set ups?

I go in and out to the bins several times per day, as I imagine my neighbours do to. Going out extra times when I have a period is really not here or there. And I don't imagine my neighbours give it a thought.

And surely once you've put sanpro into the bathroom bin, it's emptied? So a trip to the outside bin anyway?

RoyalFamilyFan · 26/12/2021 19:25

@tigger1001 Up to you. I couldnt be bothered going outside 8 to 10 times a day when I have a heavy period. I like life easy.

Honestly, I’m good with that, as I suspect all my friends would be. You do you though.

pigsDOfly · 26/12/2021 19:27
@pigsdofly, middle cardboard from toilet rolls and empty shampoo bottles get recycled.
Yes, and that's what I do with them.

I live alone and as it's only me it tends to be mainly recyclable stuff, apart from the odd bit of hair, the occasional cotton bud and the sterilising wipes I use to clean my hearing aids - I'm past the age for periods - there's nothing else in there.

It's only the downstairs loo rubbish bin that anyone uses for tampons because that's the loo that visitors use.

And I would hate having 8-10 used sanpro sitting around in a bathroom bin every day of my period. I find that pretty horrid.

Whatwouldscullydo · 26/12/2021 19:35

Would u expect a child to do that?

What if she accidentally got locked out at night as a result?

RoyalFamilyFan · 26/12/2021 19:39

@tigger1001 it is easy to empty the bin once a day.

Svara · 26/12/2021 19:44

"Hello guest, welcome to the Borb household now here's your bedroom oh and just checking you use reusable sanitary protection because I haven't got a bin in the bathroom. No? Well here's the stash of moon cups I have for the purpose"
You misunderstood. I was suggesting that if someone doesn't have a bathroom bin it may be because they use reusables. Not that visitors should be given reusables.

tigger1001 · 26/12/2021 19:44
@tigger1001 it is easy to empty the bin once a day.
I wouldn't leave used sanpro in the bin though. I would have to take it outside.

And I don't have room for a bathroom bin.

I've never had a bin in the bathroom. And my parents didn't either. It would only encourage others in my house to put things that can be recycled in it and I'm not fishing them out

RoyalFamilyFan · 26/12/2021 19:48

@tigger1001 what do you do in the middle of the night?

Svara · 26/12/2021 19:55

Not everyone has female children visit, or overnight guests.
Siameasy · 26/12/2021 20:03

I can’t cope with not having a bin bag inside the bathroom bin. And a bathroom bin must have a lid.

limitedperiodonly · 26/12/2021 20:04

I believe you are stretching the realms of possibility even for the X Files @Whatwouldscullydo.
@tigger1001 what do you do in the middle of the night?
Put it in the bin.

I don't have much choice - no room for a bin even if I wanted on. It's seriously no big deal.

Whatwouldscullydo · 26/12/2021 20:44

My front door always shuts itself unless I put a shoe or something in front of it when I go out to the bins.

I can definitely imagine being half asleep , forgetting to do that and it shutting behind me...

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 26/12/2021 21:39

Good grief there are some real mingers on this thread, no bin in bathroom and flushing tampons down the toilet and expecting others to do the same ugh !

Bubblybubblebath · 26/12/2021 21:44

I put tampons down the loo. No bin in my bathroom

Bubblybubblebath · 26/12/2021 21:45

@Mushypeasandchipstogo guess I'm a minger!

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2021 21:46

Oh dear.
deeplyambivalent · 26/12/2021 21:54

But what do people do with their dental floss? And ear buds? And cotton wool?
