No bathroom bin

If you are at relatives house with no bathroom bins where do you put your used sanitary stuff? I've been wrapping my tampons putting in handbag and putting them in the outside bin. I would always empty the bathroom bin and my periods are very heavy so need changing frequently., SIL isnt menopausal even my dad who lives alone has bathroom bins ??!!

My in-laws haven't got one either. I put them in a nappy bag and attempt to discreetly put it in the kitchen bin (only one they have!).

Svara · 25/12/2021 20:01

Could they use reusable options instead? I don't use a bathroom bin.

soapboxqueen · 25/12/2021 20:02

I don't have a bathroom bin and none of my family do. Never crossed my mind to have one.

I wrap stuff in loo roll and just put it in the kitchen bin.

Tulips21 · 25/12/2021 20:04

I dont have one either.
Sanitary waste goes in kitchen bin- I wrap in toilet roll or use a nappy sack type thing

greenanorak · 25/12/2021 20:04

So weird. Everyone needs a bathroom bin

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 25/12/2021 20:06

No, I don’t have a bathroom bin - everything goes directly into the kitchen bin.

Even if I was at someone else’s house, no way would I leave used sanpro in their bathroom bin.

pigsDOfly · 25/12/2021 20:11

I've always had bins in every bathroom and loo in the house.

I live on my own and I'm way past the age for having periods.

They're not just for used sanitary towels or tampons, what about the cardboard roll from loo rolls and empty containers for other things you use in the bathroom?

Does everyone take them down to the kitchen bin every time you have something bathroom related to throw away.

DixieSun · 25/12/2021 20:11

Never had one and never used one at someone's house. I'd do the same as you with a used tampon.

icedcoffees · 25/12/2021 20:14

We don't have one.

Everything is wrapped in loo roll and put in the kitchen bin, which is also the only bin in the house.

TheSmallAssassin · 25/12/2021 20:14

We sort our bathroom bins for recycling, so I would not be impressed to find someone else's used san pro in there. I would wrap it in toilet roll and put it in the kitchen bin.

BourbonScreams · 25/12/2021 20:15

We have one but only in one of the bathrooms. I try to let guests know but sometimes I do forget.

NiceTwin · 25/12/2021 20:19

I deliberately don't have one after my dd's and their friends used it for tampons and pads.
I am not usually squeamish but the smell had me heaving.
There are dog poo bags in the drawer with the san pro, they have been told to use those and pop in kitchen bin.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2021 20:20

Yay a bathroom bin thread. Love these! Not had one for a while .

I have one in all bathrooms so that both myself or visitors don't have to carry anything through the house. They all get emptied daily. No drama.Recycling (plastic bottles loo roll tubes etc) get taken to the green bin as and when.
Also I don't rummage through the bathroom bins but take the liner out, knot it and chuck it in the black wheelie.

Chlobo89 · 25/12/2021 20:22

I always carry dog poo bags with me when im on for these situations or i take a few of the paper disposal bags from work, then i just keep that bag in my bag until i get to a bin and can dispose of it. I wouldnt feel comfortable putting my tampons in somebody elses bathroom bin.

Hankunamatata · 25/12/2021 20:24

We dont have a bin as I use reusable sanitary stuff

Yup (except I don't empty it every day)
Bluntness100 · 25/12/2021 20:25

I just can’t imagine making my female guests walk through the house with used sanitary protection. The mind boggles. They can flush it or use the bathroom bins, I would never ask. And the bin liner is simply picked up and emptied with the rest of the trash.

I’d prefer to miss a few recyclables rather than make my friends walk through my house carrying their used sanitary protection.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2021 20:25

I assume people that don't have a bathroom bin flush their cotton buds/ make up pads and dental floss etc
Plus they're quite happy to let visitors carry used tampons etc around in their handbag til they get home. Nice.

HippeePrincess · 25/12/2021 20:26

I’d rather have used sanitary products in the bathroom bin not the kitchen one I think that’s gross traipsing through the house to the room where you prep food.
I’d flush a tampon if I used them.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2021 20:27

Exactly. I'd hate for the DS's girlfriends to be stressing about it.
Mittenmob · 25/12/2021 20:28

I removed ours after my toddler raided it trying to get razor heads and used tampons out of it,I just wrap sanitary stuff up and put in our main bin and as a result it gets taken out quicker than being left in the bathroom bin.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 25/12/2021 20:29

My in-laws have no bathroom bin and I now go with an empty bread bag and store used toilet roll wrapped sanpro in there. I do t get people not having a bin especially if they have guests. Not all guests are happy to take sanpro or empty Imodium packets or whatever else personal stuff around to put in kitchen bins.

Queenoftheashes · 25/12/2021 20:29

Ha is no bathroom bin another mental mumsnet thing? I’ve never seen a bathroom without one.
However having had mine redone recently I don’t really have space for the bloody bin.
As for emptying daily… more like every two months. There’s no sanitary products in it mind.

RandomUsernameHere · 25/12/2021 20:29

We have bins in all the bathrooms. Not for sanitary stuff as I only use a mentrual cup, but stuff like hair from the shower plug goes in there. Couldn't be bothered with taking everything to the kitchen!

CoffeeRunner · 25/12/2021 20:30

We have a bathroom bin & I don't even have periods!

Where do you put your used cotton wool balls, cotton buds & loo roll inners?

San Pro belongs absolutely anywhere bar the kitchen IMO. I'd way rather a smelly bathroom bin than a smelly kitchen!
