No bathroom bin

If you are at relatives house with no bathroom bins where do you put your used sanitary stuff? I've been wrapping my tampons putting in handbag and putting them in the outside bin. I would always empty the bathroom bin and my periods are very heavy so need changing frequently., SIL isnt menopausal even my dad who lives alone has bathroom bins ??!!

@LoveGrooveDanceParty

No, I don’t have a bathroom bin - everything goes directly into the kitchen bin.

Even if I was at someone else’s house, no way would I leave used sanpro in their bathroom bin.

So much this 🤮
Maflingo · 25/12/2021 21:34

We have a bathroom bin with a large section for recycling (loo rolls, empty bottles) and a smaller section for general waste (cotton buds, razor blades, san pro, etc).
I would prefer not to have to wander around the house with my used sanpro in hand, even if it is wrapped in tissue, and would hate for guests to feel uncomfortable also.

Natsku · 25/12/2021 21:35

Got to have a bathroom bin! I use a cup so don't need a bin for sanitary waste but have one for visitors (and the upstairs one gets used for disposing of floss as well). I tell all single (straight) male friends of mine to get bathroom bins too if they want girlfriends, must be horrid to be early in a relationship spending time at the man's home and not have anywhere to dispose of tampons but be still too early to feel comfortable telling them the issue.

Wombat69 · 25/12/2021 21:35

Please don't flush san pro. With the amount of sewage that's pumped straight into rivers, they just end up in watercourses and the sea. I used to walk my dogs on a local beach until I worked out all the fluffy items encrusted in seaweed were used tampons.

FrangipaniBlue · 25/12/2021 21:35

I have a bin in every toilet in the house. Man alive, why wouldn’t you?

Because I don't need them?

Sanpro - reusable cup
Cotton buds/pads - don't use them
Toilet roll inners - whoever changes the roll brings it downstairs and puts it in the recycling bin
What do guests do? - haven't had guests in years

Can't quite figure out how makes me a minger Confused

DukeofEarlGrey · 25/12/2021 21:36
@limitedperiodonly

That would be my SIL - big decorative basket of sanpro. She's a nurse so I guess she's totally at home with body stuff. Love her!
I've never seen this in anyone's home but when I occasionally see in public bathrooms I love it, especially in workplaces. Why is it such a nice thing? I guess the thoughtfulness + openness about periods is just kind of refreshing.

minny80 · 25/12/2021 21:36

I always had a bin in the bathroom, put recyclable aside to dispose of in the kitchen. Bin liner goes straight in the non-recyclable when full or after my period. Said that, if I would happen to go to someone else place during the period I would pack some nappy bags so that I can dispose of tampons/pads wrapping them in bags or store them in my handbag in the worst-case scenario.

NameChangeCity123 · 25/12/2021 21:37

@Tulips21

I dont have one either. Sanitary waste goes in kitchen bin- I wrap in toilet roll or use a nappy sack type thing
As do I-bathroom bins feel a bit Confusedto me tbh
Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2021 21:37

No guests? Sad Nobody in the household has anyone round, ever?

Nope.

Or at least none who either a) have need for use of a bathroom or b) stay long enough to need use of a bathroom bin.

girasol · 25/12/2021 21:48

@greenanorak

So weird. Everyone needs a bathroom bin
This ^^!!!! Honestly, I despair of people who don’t have bathroom bins - do you walk around the house with used dental floss/snotty tissues/ used sanitary stuff looking to bin it elsewhere 🤮?!
IamGusFring · 25/12/2021 21:49

@limitedperiodonly

I'm waiting for the poster who has a wicker basket of sanpro for guests to turn up on this thread.
You missed it above ...

I have a bathroom bin but it doesn't really get used by me! Guests are welcome to use it for whatever and there are tampons, pads and disposal bags in the bathroom
Toilet rolls - recycling
Skincare/body/hair empties - recycling
I use reusable cotton pads and sanitary products

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2021 21:51

Or at least none who either a) have need for use of a bathroom or b) stay long enough to need use of a bathroom bin.

Sounds very intriguing. Grin

Kite22 · 25/12/2021 21:51

I know this thread comes up on a fairly regular basis, but I still can't get my head round why anyone would not have a bathroom bin, and the concept of walking through the house with used sanitary stuff and then putting it in the kitchen bin is just awful.
I mean it is awful if you live there, but how inhospitable for guests Shock.
But, as others have said - even if you no longer use sanitary products, and you are one of the MNs that never lets anyone enter your home, what do you do with
used floss
hair from the hair catcher or plug
your empty toothpaste tube
cotton buds
tissues
cotton pads or make up removers
razors
toe nails
etc
etc
etc

I can see not everyone would use some of these, but surely everyone uses something in a bathroom that needs throwing away

TheMilkyWeigh · 25/12/2021 21:52

We have two in each bathroom - one for recyclables such as cardboard toilet roll inners, empty bottles and packaging, and one for waste such as tampons, wipes, etc.

I would never embarrass my guests by expecting them to carry their used sanitary products of similar through the house. I don’t do that myself, so why would I expect it if guests?

Also we have a dog who can open cupboards and bins. We had to lock the under sink cupboard where we keep the kitchen bin.

miltonj · 25/12/2021 21:57

I'm gobsmacked by this whole thread.

missbunnyrabbit · 25/12/2021 21:59

Oh my God. As if people make their female guests walk through the house to the kitchen bin with their used sanitary stuff. Awful, embarrassing and disgusting.

I have a bathroom bin. Of course.

pastypirate · 25/12/2021 21:59

This thread reminds me I need to put a bin in the downstairs loo.

Also bathroom bins with no lid are disgusting.

NMC2022 · 25/12/2021 22:01

@IamGusFring no bloody wicker in my bathroom though Grin it's all in a drawer, my friends know to rummage for whatever they need
< wanders off muttering about wicker grimness >

LrrrRulerOfOmicronPerceI8 · 25/12/2021 22:03

Ignoring the disregard for teenagers what about if your guest was a 8/9/10 year old girl? It's not that uncommon for a lot to have periods at this age! Would you really expect her to try to smuggle pads into the kitchen (🤮)
And drain hair, do people carry it to the kitchen? Grim

Bringonsummer19 · 25/12/2021 22:04

We have bathroom bins! I equally think people are to embarrassed to chat on these things and would guess a lot of visitors probably sneak it into the main bin.

ChristmasyFairy · 25/12/2021 22:05

I think it's appalling not to have a bathroom bin.

My elderly mother doesn't have one. In the end I bought one for when I stay and put it in the spare room. As well as san pro, there I use cotton pads for cleaning make up off, and tissues etc. I empty it into her rubbish bins outside when I leave.

She is happy to put her own stuff in the tiny kitchen bin. No way do I feel it's acceptable to walk through the house carrying used san pro.

At home I have 2 bathrooms and a downstairs loo. Bins are in all and I expect my adult DCs to use them accordingly, and their female partners. There is a plastic liner in each so it's no problem scooping them up and putting them in bins outside.

autieok · 25/12/2021 22:05

Yes weird not to have a bathroom bin. She may use a moon cup so not need to dispose of sanitary towels but should think of guests.

ChristmasyFairy · 25/12/2021 22:07

I dont have one either.Sanitary waste goes in kitchen bin- I wrap in toilet roll or use a nappy sack type thing

How embarrassing for guests to have to carry it into another room in the house. And, to be honest, wrapped in toilet roll it can smell.

Suzanne999 · 25/12/2021 22:07

I’ll be the thread’s oddity. Have bathroom bins but have never had a kitchen bin. The thought of having rubbish collected together in a room where I prepare food just turns my stomach. I tried once but it had to go.
