It's on ITV now
It's the best Xmas film.

It has everything. Love, friendship, Bruce Willis running around shooting people.
And don't get me started on Alan Rickman

I love Die Hard. I'm not the biggest Bruce Willis fan - I think that would Bruce Willis - but he's perfect in it.
I always the Bridget Jones Diary's a Christmas film too. Begins and ends with Christmas snow. And I love that film too.

100problems · 23/12/2021 00:03

There are no machine guns in A Muppets Christmas Carol. Just saying 🤷‍♀️

Yes, but there's no Kermit in Die Hard. And there should be.

TheKeatingFive · 23/12/2021 00:08

You're not wrong OP.

Does anyone want to take a stab at a list of the best Christmas films? Because I have watched a lot of absolute shite this week.

I'm on board with the Muppets Christmas Carol.

I've just done some googling and a theatre did put on a Muppets Die Hard production. I shit you not.

Win-win Grin

I mean, I find Love Actually incredibly enjoyable, while also acknowledging everything in that Jezebel article to be true. The cognitive dissonance is a bitch.

FestiveMelts · 23/12/2021 00:16

@WilliamofBaskerville

Also, Planes Trains and Automobiles, whilst another great film, is about Thanksgiving Grin.

No I won't have that. We don't have TG here so it defaults to Christmas which is close enough. Festive snowy holiday fun for the family! 😉

ultrablue · 23/12/2021 00:17

Die hard yes it's a great Christmas film, but Die Hard two is even better. Followed by Nativity and Nativity 2, then Love Actually ( we've bought so many copies of Love Actually and they go missing for some reason). But yeah Die Hard IS a Christmas movie.

Redcrayons · 23/12/2021 00:18

How can it not be a Christmas film, it’s on Christmas Eve.

Never fails to reignite my long-standing love for Bruce Willis.

Yanbu. It's not Christmas until Hans Gruber gets what's coming to him!

DottyDoge · 23/12/2021 01:32

I agree with William. This was funny maybe five years ago

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 23/12/2021 01:33

I’m afraid you’re all wrong. It’s National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. If you’re not quoting it daily through December there is clearly something wrong with you…

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 23/12/2021 01:34

I’m utterly baffled by the claims that love actually is a good movie, let alone the best Confused

And Kermit gives me the heebie jeebies Grin

SilverRingahBells · 23/12/2021 01:38

Best? Probably
Only acceptable? Those must be the words of a woman who has never seen Muppet Christmas Carol or Arthur Christmas. Go away and rectify that immediately OP.

BeaLola · 23/12/2021 02:49

In no order I love

Die Hard
Muppets Xmas Carol
Arthur Christmas
Elf
Miracle on 34th Street - both versions
It's A Wonderful Life
Home Alone
Christmas with the Kranks
A cat called Bob
Last Christmas

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 23/12/2021 02:53

Na. Home Alone is my go to. It has everything- even down to Trump making a cameo. What more could you want?!

It's on Netflix. I'd never watched it until this year, and wish I had not.
Holothane · 23/12/2021 02:57

Ooh Alan Rickman in this I’ve adored Hans Gruber for 30 years.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 23/12/2021 09:26

Popular ones in my house probably aren't much different to anyone else's ..

Arthur Christmas is played on repeat in this house from December 1st.

Muppets Christmas Carol has been watched at least 10 times so far.

Scrooged was me and my dad's favourite Christmas film to watch together, so thats tonight's film in honour of him.

And both my parents loved Santa Clause The Movie and it was tradition to all watch it together when my dad got in from work on Christmas Eve, so I carried on that tradition even though the kids only half watch it now.

Last Christmas made me cry both times I've seen it and now I can never watch it again. Which is a shame because I really liked it.

Elf is fun, Jingle All The Way gets plenty of watches over the course of December too.

Grinch is fab, but not the animated one, the Jim Carrey one.

And the Disney A Christmas Carol is a good watch but I'm slightly unnerved by how the animated characters resemble the voice actors but not quite (Google uncanny valley).

But Love Actually still takes the top spot for me, sorry not sorry. Followed by Die Hard. Then Gremlins.

I regret nothing Xmas Grin

Whatafustercluck · 23/12/2021 09:30

Here, have my first Biscuit

NoThighGap · 23/12/2021 09:56

Love Actually followed by Die Hard in one sitting is the best Christmas viewing.

You then get to see justice for Alan Rickman for how he behaved to Emma Thompson.
