Christmas morning Covid test being demanded

Is everyone else having these? My sister in law has demanded this from my side of the family as her elderly parents are going to be at the dinner. With a family of five and three are my busy teens I am worried that we could end up with no xmas day if one of us is asymptomatic (for the second year running obvs).

I do get that we are in bonkers times, but Was so looking Forward to seeing everyone, including my parents, that this is making me cross...isn’t this the point of the jabs!?

Happy Christmas!

Sadly I had a positive LFT this morning (also a teacher like OP so not all THAT surprising!). So glad I tested before going anywhere!

My god - what is the world coming to where we are blaming teenagers for killing their grandparents and stigmatising people for seeing friends and catching a virus??? My family of 4 all had covid in oct. I dont know where we got it but it is a virus not something we brought on ourselves due to living normal lives....
OP- it is very reasonable for your SIL to ask this of you. I do understand your worries but I think the only choices are to either do the
tests or, if you dont want to risk it, stay home. These are horrible times

@lljkk

Yanbu... will all of you be unwelcome if even 1 of you tests + ? That's what I thought my relatives would say. I wonder how many years of "Test before you socialise" ppl will want. Maybe only as long as the tests are free?
They aren’t free here in australia and we are testing before Christmas gatherings.

Sensible- get on with it

@Autumnalblooms

If I had trusted my lft'sI would have gone to inlaws this weekend and seen my eldest DC who lives away. All were negative even the day I tested positive on two different pcr tests two days ago .I have absolutely no faith in them. Merry Christmas to every one.
They are effective is used correctly

I don't understand the problem, but it appears to be you-shaped Hmm

DH and I have just had a big row about this. We (including kids) were accidentally exposed to a positive case yesterday evening (the person tested positive this morning and text us.)

DH has a friend coming to see us tomorrow and DH says he won't be taking a test in case it's negative. This same friend is very cautious and completely missed Christmas with his own family last year because of being so careful (and imo sensible). He will not appreciate being lied to. DH now thinks I'm "punishing him" and trying to make him cancel his night. I'm really not. I'm just asking him to follow government advice which is to test daily for 7 days after contact with a positive case. And tell his friend to prepare him for it and give him an opportunity to rethink.

I honestly cannot believe my DH is being so selfish. This is the second argument we have had this Christmas about Covid. How can we have such differing views on something so straightforward? I'm not asking him to self isolate or cancel anything. Just follow advice and be sensible. FFS.

AcrossthePond55 · 27/12/2021 14:18

So some people want to be able to plead ignorance if they infect someone, so they refuse to find out if they're positive before gathering together? I can't believe the selfishness because there is no other reason for refusing to test than FOMO.

We ALL tested before spending Xmas Day together. We have the added imperative of DH just having finished cancer treatment so his immune system is basically non-existent, but even if that weren't the case we would have tested anyway. And each of us is double jabbed and boostered.
