Hunting for some irish cream tomorrow, but would prefer to go with the best supermarket knock off to save some money, If possible.

Votes please:

YABU - you can't beat the real deal.
YANBU - there is a supermarket brand that comes close (please name!).

Oh God @FoggySpecs, I’d forgotten about my mum’s homemade ‘Baileys’. Absolutely revolting! It had Camp Coffee in it. She made it every year and gave it to friends as presents. Nobody had the heart to tell her it was foul!

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

Hiking

I’m sure I saw a vegan Baileys - think it was called Almonde?

I really want to try that one by Baileys but I’ve not seen it in any shop and it’s £60 on Amazon. I feel like that’s quite a lot to pay for something I’m not sure about yet.

If anyone happens to spot it in a shop, please let me know. I’ll pop into my local one to try my luck.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/12/2021 22:16

Oh I’m so sorry hiking

Google says they discontinued it in the autumn 😞

I didn’t think it was that long ago I saw it 😢

Hankunamatata · 21/12/2021 22:18

Just cracked open m&s version. Not as creamy as baileys, slightly sweeter and not a whiskey strong but I think i prefer it

NoliteTeBastardesCarborundorum · 21/12/2021 23:09

hiking M and S do a vegan one- chocolate and coconut but tastes like normal Baileys. It's on offer for £8.

Funnylittlefloozie · 21/12/2021 23:14

I like the Aldi Ballycastle better than 'really Baileys, simply because it is less sweet and less gloopy than the original.

fmpc · 21/12/2021 23:15

Check the spirit/alcohol base in the ingredients list
A lot of the cheaper ones are wine based rather than whiskey based which is what makes them crap

Gertie75 · 21/12/2021 23:17

I buy the proper one at Christmas, it's on offer at the moment, £9.99 for a big bottle, the rest of the year I buy the Aldi Ballycastle.

The Aldi one is really nice but I can tell the difference, it has a stronger alcohol taste to it whereas I don't taste the alcohol in the proper one at all.

Justwingingit2005 · 21/12/2021 23:17

Hotel chocolat is the best one Wine

AnneShirleysNewDress · 21/12/2021 23:19

@Hallowbat That is a blast from the past. I'll have to go and look in B&M tomorrow.

shas19 · 21/12/2021 23:20

Aldi or lidl, lidl prestige and the cheaper version are lovely with loads of ice

Beachgirl33 · 21/12/2021 23:35

My husband has went the other way and bought a bottle of Five Farms at 30 quid! Says it’s a posh version of Bailey’s. I like the good old original Bailey’s. He said it was recommended on the Alan Titchmarsh show and Cliff Richard loved it! 🤣

Blankiefan · 21/12/2021 23:41

Five Farms is amazing. I'd love a bottle but I'd only have a couple of glasses over the season(not much of a drinker these days) which seems like a waste.

FrenchBoule · 21/12/2021 23:53

I had unfinished bottle of Aldi’s version in the cupboard since July. Decided to have some last week, the cap was covered in mould inside.
Maybe I don’t drink liqueurs often enough 🙄

MrsIPFreely · 21/12/2021 23:58

I prefer the Lidl Deluxe to normal Baileys.

Fuuuuuckit · 22/12/2021 00:04

I was on my hands and knees in Lidl this evening looking for their chocolate bailey's. It was cruelly overstocked with regular Lidl bailey's. Much smoother than the genuine choc bailey's.

HibiscusIsland · 22/12/2021 00:10

I just had o connors from tesco and couldn't tell the difference

HibiscusIsland · 22/12/2021 00:13

The o connors costs £3.85 I think

PlanetNormal · 22/12/2021 00:15

Why compromise when the real thing is only a tenner a litre?

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 22/12/2021 00:21

I don't understand all this talk about "supermarket" Baileys! The original one is the only one, anything else is a "whanabee"! Either drink the real stuff or make your own mixture of whiskey and cream!

Labracadabradoodle · 22/12/2021 00:36

Tesco stock an Irish Country Cream for £3.75 a bottle. Its just as good as Baileys.

HibiscusIsland · 22/12/2021 00:38

Agree. I had some this evening. It was delicious
Mudflaps · 22/12/2021 00:46

My suggestion isn't a budget version but a beautiful smooth lighter Irish cream liquor called Coole Swan, I seldom drink but this i what I get a bottle of for Christmas, it's delicious. Brought two bottles in airport heading on honeymoon and gave on to the cleaner in the hotel after she in very poor English asked if it was like Baileys!!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 22/12/2021 00:51

My DM swears by the Aldi cheap version.

AgentDavid · 22/12/2021 02:20

I was really sad when I found out I hate the Aldi ones.

The Tesco £3 one, too.

But the Tesco £7/£7.50 one is brilliant. (70cl)

Shame you're getting it now as Tesco were just doing 1L baileys for under £10. Morrisons were, too!
