Hunting for some irish cream tomorrow, but would prefer to go with the best supermarket knock off to save some money, If possible.

Votes please:

YABU - you can't beat the real deal.
YANBU - there is a supermarket brand that comes close (please name!).

Aldi. My favourite is the £3.49 one.
Much prefer it to Baileys.

gamerchick · 21/12/2021 20:29

Aldi ballycastle. Can't tell the difference me, neither can husband.

TheRedTowel · 21/12/2021 20:30

Noooooooo! You cannot buy knock off Baileys! It's false economy.

Proper Baileys is a tenner for a litre in most shops right now. Just buy the real thing.

harriethoyle · 21/12/2021 20:30

The Aldi posh one is amazing. I'm only telling you this because I've already bought myself two bottlesso you can't steal my share if we're proximate!

TheRedTowel · 21/12/2021 20:31

@Hallowbat

Aldi salted caramel is very good and their clementine one. M&S blondie is also lovely. B&m are selling bottles of Dooleys (toffee cream) at the moment which I remember having shots of in nightclubs in the 80’s so had to get a bottle of that too, if you’re going for original Baileys their apple pie favour is well worth trying too!
Dooleys! I used to love Dooleys.

I used to drink shots of it, followed by Vodka red bulls and wonder why I would throw up. 🤣

HikingforScenery · 21/12/2021 20:32

Oh how I miss Baileys.
Sadly, since having children, my digestive system can’t cope with Baileys but I’ve just discovered a vegan/GF version ( Wild Arbor). I really hope it’s good.

cobblers123 · 21/12/2021 20:32

I bought the Aldi one yesterday, not the luxury one. I've also bought Lidl's cheaper one too in the past. Both under £4 a bottle.

My dad likes them, that's who I buy it for mainly.

Twopenny · 21/12/2021 20:32

I tried the luxury Aldi one after seeing it recommended on here last year and I have to say I didn't think it was as nice as Baileys. I'm always happy to save a penny, though, so I might try the Asda one off the back of this thread.

Christmasisallaround · 21/12/2021 20:32

It's a long time since I had Bailey's as I don't drink much. I used to love it though. On a very tight budget I bought myself a £3.75 bottle of Irish country cream in Lidl and I'm really enjoying it.

MerryMarigold · 21/12/2021 20:33

Not that Aldi one OP, the Ballycastle. I really like it. I've forgotten what real Baileys tastes like!! I think it's a bit thinner but less cloying somehow. I really like it anyway.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/12/2021 20:35

Hiking

I’m sure I saw a vegan Baileys - think it was called Almonde?

FluffyBooBoo · 21/12/2021 20:35

My absolute favorite is the tesco finest salted caramel version, much nicer than baileys.

But based on a moneysavingexpert blind taste test, where they tested loads, and half of the people thought the tesco £7.75 version was baileys, I tried that one, and I don't think I would be able to tell the difference. Not as good as the salted caramel one, but it's cheaper.

Mrsjayy · 21/12/2021 20:36

Oh blast from the past I'm going to get some just for the nostalgia 😄

FluffyBooBoo · 21/12/2021 20:38

This is the blind taste test I referred to

Watto1 · 21/12/2021 20:39

Sainsburys do one called Country Cream I think. Only £5.15 and I prefer it to proper Baileys.

Itsnotdeep · 21/12/2021 20:40

I had the Lidl one last year, but it was thinner than the original. I've got Baileys this year.

TheCreamCaker · 21/12/2021 20:40

I've tried various cheaper brands, and they all taste the same to me Grin. At the moment, I like the Asda one (£4.50)

mommybear1 · 21/12/2021 20:41

ALDI - I prefer it to the original 😉

This!! We did a blind taste test last year between the two and all of us preferred it. Not much in it mind!

FoggySpecs · 21/12/2021 20:41

My mum used to make her own version, one year she made too much and we had bottles sitting in our shed for months.

Sadmac · 21/12/2021 20:43

You lot are brilliant. Glad there is much passion around this subject!

Ballycastle sounds promise. If I bought salted caramel my DP will kill me (he thinks it's a travesty, but I think he's a old boring fart, so...) Grin

traintraveller · 21/12/2021 21:00

Aldi Ballycastle. I think it's nicer and stronger tasting than baileys, not as creamy and claggy

VouisLuitton · 21/12/2021 21:00

The Aldi one for sure. Has to be Ballycastle - that’s the closest I’ve found to proper Baileys.

gogohm · 21/12/2021 21:09

Got the Aldi one here, tastes similar - that said I only drink it after I've already been drinking

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 21/12/2021 21:54

Aldi’s Ballycastle Country cream is my number 1 go to and at under £4 its a bargain, I actually think its a tad nicer than Baileys too, its a bit less sharp / bit more creamy. Otherwise they do a slightly dearer version that I believe comes pretty close.
