Hunting for some irish cream tomorrow, but would prefer to go with the best supermarket knock off to save some money, If possible.

Votes please:

YABU - you can't beat the real deal.
YANBU - there is a supermarket brand that comes close (please name!).

I’ve tried a lot of knock offs brands and I think you can tell the difference side by side - they are definitely “thinner” than the real thing. The taste is very similar, though, so it isn’t necessarily noticeable if you don’t have the real thing to compare it to.

wishingitwasspring · 21/12/2021 20:11

I've seen it in Sainsbury's for £9.50 for a litre and similar in Tesco. Why buy anything else?

Sadmac · 21/12/2021 20:12

Has anyone tried the Taste the Difference one in Sainsburys? That's the one I was leaning towards. I agree, the thickness is paramount to the enjoyment!

Aldi is the best one.

Youngatheart00 · 21/12/2021 20:14

Do they still do the biscotti one? I loved that one….

Anxietyandwine · 21/12/2021 20:15

Lidl have one at the mo for £3ish last time I went in, obviously had to give that a go! It was lovely. Not quite the same but still v nice

Bedpost · 21/12/2021 20:15

Asda country cream is much better than baileys

TheHoptimist · 21/12/2021 20:15

Its only £10 for the real one at the moment

Why not? It's worth a try! Worst case is that I buy the real Baileys next year...

Aldi luxury one

Marks and Spencer’s

TooWicked · 21/12/2021 20:16

How much money are you saving by buying a supermarket own brand... £3 - £4?

Treat yourself to the real thing, it's Christmas.

luckymagnoliatree · 21/12/2021 20:17

The aldi ones are lovely & they also do seasonal flavoured ones, every one I've tried has been amazing. I actually prefer it to proper baileys.

wishingitwasspring · 21/12/2021 20:19

As you said you were saving money I imagined that would be a saving worth considering

ANameChangeAgain · 21/12/2021 20:19

Off topic slightly, but has anyone else seen the Hotel Chocolat liquor crackers in Sainsbury's? They are reduced to £16 for a box of 6. 😋

Sadmac · 21/12/2021 20:20

Seems like Aldi is winning at the moment. I'm sure I will enjoy whichever one I buy just enough, and it's nice to try different brands sometimes.

Aldis is lovely .

StormyTeacups · 21/12/2021 20:23

The Lidl prestige one is good

Sadmac · 21/12/2021 20:23

Is there a specific one in Aldi? Is it this one? www.aldi.co.uk/specially-selected-irish-cream-1l/p/707378432659000

I second the Lidl knockoff. It's lovely with their brownie icecream. 😋

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/12/2021 20:24

Aldi and the Lidl luxury ones are lovely.

I confess to liking the original the best though.

Billyliarohdear · 21/12/2021 20:25

Bought my parents Asda Country Cream last year and they raved about it.
My sil also loves it and no longer buys Baileys.

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 21/12/2021 20:26

I like the Lidl one.

JoanDarc · 21/12/2021 20:28

I’m incredibly fussy but 100% cannot tell the difference between Bailey’s and the Aldi Ballycastle one. Always buy it now, definitely recommend.

Hallowbat · 21/12/2021 20:28

Aldi salted caramel is very good and their clementine one. M&S blondie is also lovely. B&m are selling bottles of Dooleys (toffee cream) at the moment which I remember having shots of in nightclubs in the 80’s so had to get a bottle of that too, if you’re going for original Baileys their apple pie favour is well worth trying too!
