To be pissed off with my Tesco delivery 4 hours before it is even due to arrive?

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 20/12/2007 07:10

I just checked my account and they've taken £30 less than I expected.

This means that a fair few items will not be delivered.

This means that I'll have to send DH out to the shops in search of things.

DH is crap at shopping. If the item doesn't wave at him from the shelf and jump up and down yelling his name then "they didn't have any"

What no beans?
No
In the WHOLE of a major supermarket they had not one single tin of beans of any description
No

Bollards.

And I bet it won't be simple things like bread that will be missing, oh no oh no, it'll be my small jar of something specific and vital that dh will NEVER find.

You know what the problem is, don't you? It's all those maniacs who stockpile every Christmas like they're preparing for a nuclear winter. I bet my local tesco is like those pics you always see of bare shelves in russian shops and women queuing for 3 hours for a pint of milk.

I've forgotten who I'm mad at now. ah yes. Tesco. Bastards.

AND I've got a d&v bug and was up all night putting each end on the loo in turn.

oh no that is shite - is there no way you can get to supermarket instead of dh (or maybe a lovely friend who is going to venture there anyway may be able to find the obscure things!)

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 20/12/2007 07:17

GRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrTesco!

Yup, not unreasonable poooor Heckerty, I am expecting them too today and nothing will be in bags, and most things will not be there. Tis usual...

Hope you feel a bit better today x

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 20/12/2007 07:31

On the plus side though , you aren't actually having to go into a shop!. I am you see and I'm dreading it. We used Asda saving card this year, as we didn't know if I'd be working or not when we moved. So we now have over £100 on the card which I want to use.
I'm tempted to get DH's Kavlar helmet and big jacket and don those to go out!

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 20/12/2007 07:31

nooooooooooooooo.....tis not less to be delivered......tis the fact that half the stuff you ordered are now cheaper or on buy one get one free!!!!!!!!!!!

am hoping MY shopping knocks at least £50 off so DH doesn't fall over in sock at ours

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 20/12/2007 07:33

when did you order it to secure your delivery slot????

I placed a cheapie order early to secure my slot, then went back last weekend to do the proper shop.......laods on offer

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 20/12/2007 07:36

Really? You think so? [hopeful]

I did place order 3 weeks ago!

true saltire.
nah rudolf, I'm ill at both ends.
and thanks twinkly - i feel crap atm.

OP posts:
ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 20/12/2007 07:43

I really do.

well.......reaaly do hope at least.

my order cam to £198.67, and I KNOW at least £50 of that were on offer (I always do the bits on offer first before doing the 'normal' shopping, as whatever the total is at the end of that bit is always going to be less......I knock of a third IYGWIM), and so then when I get to the end of the entire shop I then tell DH the total, and then tell him it will be less as there are offers.

always works, and DH is always happy with me (well, not completely happy, but near enough).

(altho, I take all this back if tomoorow morning comes and half mine is missing)

soopermum1 · 20/12/2007 07:54

i don't do internet shopping as it used to pee my off that they either didn't have what i wanted or made really stupid substitutions. once, a mushroom pizza got substitued with a meat feast pizza (er, i could have been veggie) once i got fishfood that i certainly hadn't ordered as i ddin't have any fish at the time.

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 20/12/2007 07:57

Fishfood? They're crackers aren't they soopermum? Did you read the thread about someone who got a wooden owl? That's a classic!

Christmas - let me know how your order goes.

OP posts:
MellowChristmasEveryone · 20/12/2007 07:58

Ours was delivered yesterday and there were No substitites, not one , nada

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 20/12/2007 08:00

meelow you realise that you may have picked yourself to be fired with arrows should everyone elses have substitutes/things missing don't ya!!!!!!!!!!

MellowChristmasEveryone · 20/12/2007 08:29

[gulp] Wonders if she should have post deleted...this time of year everyone can start acting very strangely, twas a very small shop.

Actually it was terrible, no alcohol or anything .....

there that's better.

crokky · 20/12/2007 08:30

Tesco delivey is crap in our area. We get things that are not even substitutes, just things that were probably intended for someone elses shopping! We do not use any fabric conditioner ever, yet we got a huge bottle - gave to charity shop! Got some horrible substitute nappies (also gone to charity shop as accidents occurred with the first 5 I put on him!), DS is so skinny that I need to be fussy with the brand (Tesco superfit are the only ones that work for him). 8 yoghurts delivered, all go off the following day! We are not well enough to do a big shop so it is really frustrating!

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 20/12/2007 08:36

pmsl mellow.......yup, you made it better with the lack of alcohol

ELF1981 · 20/12/2007 08:38

I ordered from Tesco this time last year and they sent me food which had a use by date as the same date of delivery

hippipotTEDCHRISTMASTREEami · 20/12/2007 08:40

Move to Ocado girls! I have never had unsuitable substitudes, only things like 3 loose mozarellas when a 3-pack I ordered had gone out of stock. Also, you can still get your shopping delivered for free!

They are fabbo!

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 20/12/2007 09:13

can't do ocardo........the singing ocado man on the radio adverts is just scary....what if he is the one who delivers.

I'm a tesco girl........no freaks there

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 20/12/2007 10:28

Oh, Elf, I get that regularly - I just email customer service and they refund you the things that went off the same/next day. They keep doing it though, despite
But Ocado are way out of my price range, they sell really nice food don't they?
I am a value range girl

Oh, the white packaging! Give me more!

JingleJulezbooBells · 20/12/2007 14:50

ours came today

one subsitute, they didnt have a large chicken so sent two medium ones plus we got an extra bottle of vodka!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 20/12/2007 14:54

Hek, how'd it go?

apart from a duff dvd and the other one unavailable, ours was good...

VictorianSqualor · 20/12/2007 14:57

I got everything on this tesco delivery too mellow, don't feel alone. I was shocked though.

onepieceoflollipop · 20/12/2007 15:02

Mellow and VS same here (but Sainsbury not Tesco).

Two sensible substitutes (normal flake cakes instead of festive ones!) and an extra loaf of bread thrown in.

The funniest thing on the other thread (apart from the wooden owl, of course) was someone ordering condoms...a pregnancy test was sent as a substitute.

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 20/12/2007 17:08

No wine
No mulled wine (bloody happy]
and a few little bits, easy to pick up.

Nothing major.

Plus over £15 savings on multibuys, vouchers money off etc

So much better than I feared.

and a sneaky at the preg test instead of condoms.

someone taking advantage of their last day at that job methinks

I won't ever use Tesco delivery again after they gave me 1 hours notice that they would be 24 hours late and I needed the baby formula that was meant to be coming. It was also too late to go to Asda before the school run.

MinnSpyHandCream · 20/12/2007 17:36

My local tesco dotcom is brilliant only one sub today - a tube of pringles!!

If you go back into 'your account' and look at your order that is being delivered, it will usually tell you is a product is unavailable and then you can select something else (I do this the night before delivery).

And if they can't deliver and it's urgent, like formula/nappies, our tesco will usually send someone out with them.

I have had to ring customers to advise them of delayed deliveries and it's surprising how many are not even in!! they then complain and get the charge refunded [fcheek]!
