Or is all wrapping paper rubbish this year?

I’ve bought loads from different places and it’s all been crap. Flimsy, so so thin, or alternatively creases horribly or stops sellotape sticking to it.
I like heavy duty brown paper generally but since I use this all the time for birthdays etc , the children think Santa would use something a bit more glam.
Where do you buy nice wrapping paper?
(Preferably in generous quantities so not individual sheets)

I got some very cheap but good red and brown stripey paper from Primark.

Itstheprinciple · 21/12/2021 14:00

I got mine from Booths, nice and thick, easy to cut and recyclable.

rocky1914 · 21/12/2021 14:01

Lidl, Waitrose or John Lewis. Don't buy from Tesco, their wrapping paper is awful!

wrappedupforchristmas · 21/12/2021 16:38

I paid a pound for 12m roll of wrapping paper from aldi and it is really good.
I went back and bought another 3 rolls.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 21/12/2021 17:00

Waitrose was good, no problems at all.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 22/12/2021 16:59

FYI, the Paperchase stuff was excellent too. It is all 50% off today online.

Hemingwayscatz · 22/12/2021 17:01

M&S and paperchase are the best ime. It all goes in the bin though so feel disheartened when I’ve spent lots on it.

AnkylosaurusAches · 22/12/2021 17:03

Oxfam is good this year. I think eco too

AnkylosaurusAches · 22/12/2021 17:04

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing

Got stuff that’s supposed to be plastic free and it’s a bit flimsy- maybe yours is the same?

The m and a one has been very flimsy. Fully recyclable and plastic free though. Worked for stockings.

AnkylosaurusAches · 22/12/2021 17:05

M and s!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 22/12/2021 17:06

I have now wrapped my presents and the TK Maxx paper was lovely! Nice and thick and the tape stuck really well. It was embossed as well.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 22/12/2021 17:13

Sodding co-op eco friendly.

No plastic or cardboard lightsabre inside.

You lose 50 cm usable length from the damage done peeling the stickers that hold it in a roll.

Soubriquet · 22/12/2021 17:26

Got mine from Sainsbury’s. Dinosaur for ds and unicorn for dd.

I wasn’t able to do that scissor glide with it but I was able to wrap everything nicely. The sellotape stuck down.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 22/12/2021 17:30

I'm miserable and not doing it! I have bought reusable tote bags with all a persons gifts in and sellotaped shut. They are then put in a large cotton laundry bag for each family that they can take the presents home in. I also have fabric pens for the children to decorate the bags. I home they will enjoy the gifts more than tearing wrapping paper that gets thrown away.

Yes I am a miserable lazy auntie!

Totally just bought my paper for next year. Thanks!
ScreamingMeMe · 22/12/2021 17:58

@YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie

We bought some beautiful paper from Oxfam this year, it’s made me want to actually wrap nicely rather than my usual slapdash approach. Lovely recycled printed brown paper, I can’t find a picture online but we had black and blue versions and they look fantastic. Finished off with string and Kraft tape. Poncy but beautiful
I second Oxfam paper. It's nice and thick too.
WowIlikereallyhateyou · 22/12/2021 18:01

Clarkey, pleased to be of help. I thought they had some lovely stuff!

angieloumc · 22/12/2021 18:10

I've had the same problem with the M&S stickers round the paper too, losing at least six inches of it. Mind you, it's really poor quality this year. You used to be able to whizz up it with your scissors, now
It just rips. Debenhams always used to be pretty good but alas now they don't do it.

Clarkey86 · 22/12/2021 18:13

I went for festive reptiles and festive cats Grin
WowIlikereallyhateyou · 22/12/2021 18:18

I liked the reptiles,, but went for the trees and gingerbread men!

Pontypandytaxpayer · 22/12/2021 18:22

@Thewiseoneincognito

Sostrene Grene has some lovely ones as always, their ribbon is fabulous too and dirt cheap. How that store makes a profit with those prices I’ll never know.
What's the paper like? It looks really lovely but it's so cheap I'm assuming it's very thin and hard to wrap with.
justaddcandlelight · 22/12/2021 18:25

I picked some up in Wilkinson's this year. I've not bought paper from there before, but it's very good.
It's brown paper with a stag print in white on it. It's fully recyclable too! As well as having the scissor guide.

onemouseplace · 22/12/2021 18:27

We got some ok stuff in Sainsburys - was quite impressed actually!

TheAntiGardener · 22/12/2021 18:28

JL thin and flimsy complete with frustrating stickers here. Although the paper was already well torn around the stickers from in-store manhandling before I set eyes on it so I didn’t lose much more once unpeeled. I assumed it’s all to do with being eco-friendly and I’m fine with that obviously. I also quite like thin paper (although this is a bit TOO thin) as it’s more manageable than thick, springy paper. What I don’t get is why the prints are so dire this year. I got the sole remaining roll of the least bad option, but the selection was very uninspiring. Same with the cards at John Lewis. Insipid or humour that’s been done to death.

Mouseketeer2015 · 22/12/2021 18:36

I made a comment on product quality to M&S about their paper and got this in response -
'On all of our wrapping paper we’ve replaced the plastic with 15cm of extra paper to keep your wrapping paper perfect as it also serves as a form of protection if the labels and stickers are difficult to remove. This, thereby saves you and the rest of our customers a trip to return to the store with a faulty item. In addition to this, the bits that have been ruined may also be recycled as we've ensured our wrapping paper is fully recyclable.'
I've given up trying to remove the stickers on one roll and will use it to entertain the cat!
