Or is all wrapping paper rubbish this year?

I’ve bought loads from different places and it’s all been crap. Flimsy, so so thin, or alternatively creases horribly or stops sellotape sticking to it.
I like heavy duty brown paper generally but since I use this all the time for birthdays etc , the children think Santa would use something a bit more glam.
Where do you buy nice wrapping paper?
(Preferably in generous quantities so not individual sheets)

Don't make the mistake of the matching habitat paper ribbon. It's shite and rips if you try to tie a bow.

steff13 · 21/12/2021 04:40

I got avocados with Santa hats. And it has the grid on the other side for those of us who are gift-wrapping impaired.

DilemmaDelilah · 21/12/2021 06:49

It's probably too late now but I got some really fantastic paper from the RSPB online. It is thick, has a gorgeous design and rich colours.

FreeBritnee · 21/12/2021 06:58

Primark paper was great. Tesco’s diabolical.

shouldistop · 21/12/2021 07:00

It's because a lot of places are making it recyclable. The 'better' quality stuff has a plastic coating and can't be recycled.

londonrach · 21/12/2021 07:04

Lidl this year and great. Got IKEA one several years and it's amazing but can't get to IKEA now they closed our local store.

SushiGo · 21/12/2021 07:11

I don't mind the stickers, just peel them off carefully.

I haven't noticed any issues this year, except some of the brown paper styles being a bit tape resistant. But you don't have to buy brown paper for it to be recycled, it just has to have no plastic back/foil/glitter which most rolls I've seen this year were.

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 21/12/2021 07:15

I’m using some stuff that I obviously bought last year.

It’s recycle-able. ✅

It has a grid on the reverse to help with cutting a straight line ✅

Will sellotape actually stick to it? Hell NO! 😡😡😡😡

Everything then has to be tethered with paper string. Grrrrr

BakewellGin1 · 21/12/2021 07:19

Home Bargains and Card Factory for me this year after I went all out in Next and M&S last year and it was shocking.

This year wrapped all tidy with no tips, corners poking through and some even had gridlines on the back Grin

mafted · 21/12/2021 07:39

I bought some from M&S that I hadn't realised was only 1.5 metre rolls, a huge chunk of which was ripped by the removal of stickers holding it together Hmm

mynamesnotMa · 21/12/2021 07:56

I hate the tough high quality wrapping paper. I bought some recycled paper last year from Amazon. It was a weird mix of unable to fold plus the cellotape wouldn't stick.

Looked far and wide for the sort you just rip offHmm

CoffeeWithCheese · 21/12/2021 08:15

There was the other year where Tesco had this really thick holographic paper which didn't stay folded down, didn't stick and was such a bastard they ended up donating it to all the local schools when they couldn't sell it.

Every nativity play that year had holographic wrapping paper covered backdrops for some strange reason.

reluctantbrit · 21/12/2021 08:17

We got ours this year from Waitroseas all the cheaper shops still have either. glitter all over it or are metalic.

Nice weight, doesn't rip when cutting and wrapping, no plastic and fully recycable.

I will buy more after Christmas for next year.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/12/2021 08:25

Mixture of M&S, Asda and Sainsburys.
No problems with any of it.
Lost a little for sticker removal, but nothing to complain about... better than the shrink wrapped stuff.

LegoPandemic · 21/12/2021 08:33

TK Maxx. Really wide rolls of thick paper. Nice quality and patterns.

This is what I have for my DDs. They had a lovely festive unicorn one, festive dinosaurs and Santa riding spaceships. I also got some gorgeous Paddington Bear paper from there. I have to have 2 designs each for them as I do presents from Santa in one paper and presents from us in another. So many lovely designs to choose from. Haven’t tried to wrap with it yet so we’ll see how that goes. Grin
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/12/2021 08:53

Not just crap quality, but also not Christmassy! And judging by about a million rolls of Percy Sodding Pig paper in M&S yesterday, I’m not the only one not buying it. Not even for the Gdcs.

Ariela · 21/12/2021 09:46

Top tip: Blast with hairdryer, it then peels off easily
LuaDipa · 21/12/2021 09:48

Paperchase has great wrapping paper. It’s not sophisticated but it’s very Christmassy.

unfar · 21/12/2021 09:53

I'm using mainly John Lewis this year, really good selection of patterns and thick paper. Did get a Christmas tree one from M&S but haven't used it yet.

tiredanddangerous · 21/12/2021 09:55

I've got the sainsburys habitat stuff. The paper is good quality despite the stickers holding the roll together.

AshLane · 21/12/2021 10:07

I bought good quality gift bags, in a range of sizes, from eBay about 10 years ago. A different set of colours for each DC. They are direct from a packaging company.
We reuse them every year, sometimes with the occasional added gift wrapped present and a 'sale bargain' set of Christmas shirt boxes (10 for a £1.00 - TKMAXX).
Saves time in wrapping - (sometimes we wrap loosely in tissue), money and the environment.

This is the company. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Luxury-Paper-Gift-Bags-Paper-Carrier-Bag-Party-Bag-with-Rope-Handles-5-Sizes-/352060781169?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

I bought that stuff. Looked beautiful except I ended up with masses of cello tape holding it together and it still didn’t stick.
DailyMailHater · 21/12/2021 13:51

I got mine from card factory - thought it wouldn’t be great due to price but kids are only going to rip it off anyway - was surprised when I used it what good quality it was!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/12/2021 13:56

Got stuff that’s supposed to be plastic free and it’s a bit flimsy- maybe yours is the same?
