For my DD 5yr old - I am at a loss

Posting here for traffic.

My 5 Yr old DD wants a story book that has chapters for Christmas present. She wants a book she can read herself.

We have loads of books (three bookshelves full) but she has three older siblings, so I guess she wants something new that's been hers from the start. So not any that we already have.

She's a good reader. I no longer let her see my phone as I WhatsApp!

I am looking for a book with chapters that is not too advanced for her to read by herself, that she will enjoy reading. Not the usual 18/24/32etc page story books she gets from school. But I just can't think of any.

The hive of MNers are fantastic with solving riddles, chasing down perfumes name & brand unknown, finding no-longer available beloved toys/teddies.

This is not in the same league but I am hoping the MNer power will help me here.

I found looking on accelerated reader and putting lower zpd score in like between 2 and 3 can give you chapter books that are easy to read

Mr Majeika is my reccomend

I agree about Paddington; but I actually prefer Bond's slightly less well-known Olga da Polga books about a guinea pig of character.

I really like Swallows and Amazons, but I think they're a bit advanced for even a highly literate 5 year old: more for children of 8 and over.

Beverly Cleary's 'Ramona' books might also appeal: especially the early books in the series where Ramona is younger.

Horrid henry easy readers (1 horrid henry story made into an entire chapter book) are quite good.

Also the Dragonsitter series: she may need help but my DS read them out loud to me early in lockdown and he has just turned 7 now, so they should be about the right age.

@DeepaBeesKit, she's Year 1.
That's great advice, thank you.
