Elf has to be the best Christmas film ever.

YABU.

Klaus is my favourite.

Except that bit at the end where someone starts chopping onions.

Justkeeppedaling · 18/12/2021 08:15

@loveablequalities

Nativity!

We laughed so much at that one.

I must admit, Nativity is pretty good too!

I can introduce Bad Moms at Christmas into the mix?

Possibly not as good as Elf - I only watched it for the first time last night, but I'm going to watch it again in a week or two and I'll let you know!

NellePorter · 18/12/2021 08:31

YABU. It's creepy AF

EeeByeGummieBear · 18/12/2021 08:34

Fred Claus beats Elf in my opinion.
But it's Muppets at the top, followed by Home Alone 2, The Holiday, Die Hard then Home Alone.
Not watched Arthur Christmas for a few years- I'll have to revisit that one.
I used to love Rise of the Guardians until it was on in a loop in children's A and E once (yes- we were waiting a while...)

ElftonWednesday · 18/12/2021 08:37

I only watched Elf last year for the first time as I thought it was going to be rubbish, but it is brilliant, makes me laugh so much.

Also makes me feel nostalgic for noughties New York City.

Hemingwayscatz · 18/12/2021 08:39

I love it personally but DC aren’t big fans Sad. I love Scrooged and National lampoons Christmas vacation too. DC’s favourite is home alone.

flashpaper · 18/12/2021 08:41

I hate Elf. I don't think I've ever seen a film with Will Ferrell that I've found funny or even watchable.
Muppets, Arthur Christmas, and The Polar Express are my favourites.

Icebreaker99 · 18/12/2021 08:45

Meet Me In St Louis makes me think of Easter as it ends in Spring, it's only a "Christmas" film due to that song which happens about midway through, there I said it!

I do like Elf but think it's a bit over hyped. Arthur Christmas made me weep buckets. Love Die Hard, I've tried every year to get DH to watch it me Christmas Eve but he resists sigh

neverbeenskiing · 18/12/2021 09:06

Elf does my head in. Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschannel are both intensely irritating. The bit where they all burst into song towards the end is so cringey, I can't deal with it!

Home Alone is the best Christmas film but would also take Muppets Christmas Carol, Die Hard, Arthur Christmas, Scrooged, Gremlins 2 (but not Gremlins), Fred Claus, National Lampoon and Trading Places over Elf any day.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 18/12/2021 09:12

It’s not Christmas in this house until we’ve all watched national lampoon … DCs are 20 Grin

BigSandyBalls2015 · 18/12/2021 09:13

The first nativity is fab, the rest are appalling

KevinTheKoala · 18/12/2021 09:14

Klaus is my favourite Christmas movie (even if it does make me cry every time).

JaninaDuszejko · 18/12/2021 09:27

We love Arthur Christmas, the first 10 minutes with the ninja elves make me laugh so much. Bryony is my favourite though: "There's always time for a bow" "Three pieces of sticky tape. Three!"

The DC love Nativity which I do enjoy but it's not a patch on Arthur Christmas. Elf is just strange, I don't get the appeal at all, don't find it funny and my DC hate it. They also don't like The Muppets' Christmas Carol, much to DH's disappointment.

And Christmas is not Christmas until you've sat down to watch a Raymond Briggs although the DC are stroppy teenagers now and prefer grumpy Father Christmas to The Snowman.

FreakinFrankNFurter · 18/12/2021 09:55

I agree with PPs, Arthur Christmas and Elf are fabulous but Polar Express is a bit weird and creepy

Christmas Chronicles is also good. We watched it last night

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 18/12/2021 09:59

YABU

Every minute of it is unwatchable rubbish. I cringe in amazement that it even exists.

Davros · 18/12/2021 10:00

The Man Who Invented Christmas is good. Dan Stevens as Charles Dickens. I've only seen it once though, this year I'd have to pay for it and, you know Scrooge and all that

Twopenny · 18/12/2021 10:01

Elf makes me uncomfortable and sad. Everyone my age seems to LOVE it though.

TheCreamCaker · 18/12/2021 10:02

It's embarrassing to watch (saw it with the GC)

Rosewaterblossom · 18/12/2021 10:05

My favourite scene in Elf is when he's jumping on the table in the mail room with everyone going "hey!".. 😆

HereticFanjo · 18/12/2021 10:18

@Creamcrackersandricecakes

The Polar Express is so bloody weird and creepy. The first time I watched it I remember thinking that it couldn't possibly get any odder, then bloody Aerosmith showed up. So bizarre. Love Elf though! DD and I love to hiss at each other, "you sit on a throne of lies", whenever we feel the other is being less than truthful. Grin
You sit on a throne of lies ... you smell like beef and cheese! 😂😂😂
ArsenicNLace · 18/12/2021 10:20

@RaPumPumPumPum

Sorry I think I’m one of the few people who thinks it’s crap.

Arthur Christmas is far superior

Exactly this! Arthur Christmas is by far my favourite Christmas film.

I find Elf really creepy. A grown man in tights with his massive bulge showing???? All kinds of wrong!!!

Badgerforbreakfast · 18/12/2021 10:22

Crap.

The new one A Boy Calle Christmas is fantastic.

FriedasCarLoad · 18/12/2021 10:27

Where can I watch Elf this year? I've never seen it. We have Netflix and Disney, plus UK terrestrial channels.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 18/12/2021 10:31

Elf is average at best. The Muppets Christmas Carol is far better...in fact it is the best.
