Elf has to be the best Christmas film ever.

YANBU!

The bit where he disappears off-screen, then runs and uses the sofa as a trampoline...!! 🤣 Gets me every time. No other Christmas film gets me laughing like that!

Although Nativity is a must for me, being a primary school teacher.

peoplearepeople · 17/12/2021 23:32

Die hard and then Jingle all the way for me. Grin

LunarEclipseWinterSolstice · 17/12/2021 23:33

Ynbu- elf is the best. See also Christmas with the Kranks, and the Santa Claus. Apparently I really like Tim Allen Grin

MoonriseKingdom · 17/12/2021 23:33

It doesn’t seem to be a popular choice but I love ‘Jingle all the Way’ with Arnie playing a truly terrible father who finds redemption at the end.

I love many of the films mentioned here but my children get most excited about the Christmas Chronicles films and the cartoon of The Grinch

shreddednips · 17/12/2021 23:34

@RaPumPumPumPum

Sorry I think I’m one of the few people who thinks it’s crap.

Arthur Christmas is far superior

Yes, Arthur Christmas is the absolute best. The elderly reindeer with the vet cone on its head makes me laugh every time. Not a fan of Elf
shreddednips · 17/12/2021 23:38

Also love Muppet Christmas Carol. The Polar Express is really horrible and I don't get the hype. It's real uncanny valley territory. And the terrifying conductor who shouldn't be charged with looking after small children and the GHOST Confused my DS (3) covered his eyes and shouted 'IT'S TOO DANGEROUS, MUMMY!' so I turned it off. Far too much peril, he's right!

Piffle11 · 17/12/2021 23:45

I really like Elf, although I must admit, I think James Caan was completely miscast… I always had the feeling that after Christmas, he would revert to type and be an absolute twat. I like the grinch, Scrooged with Bill Murray, and Scrooge with Albert Finney.

Parusmajor · 17/12/2021 23:51

Die Hard.

But I do like Elf. Also Santa Claus the Movie!

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 17/12/2021 23:53

The Polar Express is so bloody weird and creepy. The first time I watched it I remember thinking that it couldn't possibly get any odder, then bloody Aerosmith showed up. So bizarre. Love Elf though! DD and I love to hiss at each other, "you sit on a throne of lies", whenever we feel the other is being less than truthful. Grin

GADDay · 17/12/2021 23:54

Elf is my Christmas Hero.

World's best cup of coffee!

YuleiamsaidI · 17/12/2021 23:54

Never seen it and I have kids.

Classica · 17/12/2021 23:54

Every year I dread the annual 'Die Hard is/isn't a Christmas film' discourse.

FurryAntiWaxer · 17/12/2021 23:55

Jingle all the way
Everytime I miss out on a sale I feel like Arnie in the toyshop when he tries to buy the sold out action figure.
That movie speaks to my pain.

Justkeeppedaling · 17/12/2021 23:59

Watched it once to check out the hype, thought it was utter shite. Possibly because I don't like Will Ferrel's face and hair in it. And the fact it's not funny.

Davros · 18/12/2021 00:00

I do like Elf a lot. Arthur Christmas is a cartoon so I don't think you can compare the two but it's good.
We watched When Harry Met Sally last night, which we class as a Christmas film, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles tonight. Ok, it's Thanksgiving, whatever the fuck that is.
We might do Trading Places tomorrow. There's always The Holiday, Nativity as mentioned above, Deck the Halls...

CallMeMabel · 18/12/2021 00:05

I don't like it. Love Muppets, Home Alone, It's a Wonderful Life, Scrooged, Die Hard, Trading Places...but not Elf. Buddy gives me the willies.

KittyWindbag · 18/12/2021 00:07

Finally watched it last year and really didn’t get why people love it. It was ok. Muppet Christmas Carol, scrooged and the snowman are miles ahead

Have you seen Click and collect on Netflix?
RainbowBabyForChristmasPlease · 18/12/2021 00:12

Elf was ok, but I honestly don't think you can beat Christmas chronicles 1&2 also David the Elf a Polish Christmas film

loveablequalities · 18/12/2021 00:19

Nativity!

We laughed so much at that one.

icebearforpresident · 18/12/2021 00:24

Elf is amazing.
Arthur Christmas is balls.
A Muppet Christmas Carol is beaten only by Die Hard in the Christmas movie rankings.

Puffinhead · 18/12/2021 00:26

I used to love Elf but I must admit I also prefer Arthur Christmas, it always makes me cry.
