To think many animal lovers are total hypocrites

I actually dislike majority of animals, I didn't grow up with them have never had a special relationship with any and have no interest in them at all.

However, I watched a documentary on Netflix tonight called blackfish and I cannot understand how killer whales are being held in captivity and made millions of pounds and so called 'animal lovers' go to watch them and swim with them?

As someone who dislikes animals it still makes me sick to my stomach to see an animal in captivity and I could never pay to support BS like sea world - so how can animal lovers do it?

How do animal lovers eat animals? Or go to zoos?

It baffles me, AIBU?

I don't really get the argument that all food causes harm to animals as a justification for ah may as well eat meat then. Everyone eats non animal products too, not to mention cattle etc eat a tonne of it, and yes there are sadly some things that are an intrinsic part of life that aren't ideal, but sorry having a slab of decaying flesh or eating eggs that as a result have had male chick's killed at birth because they won't be egg factories is a whole other league. How can people be like aw dogs so cute, but pay money into such a cruel industry?

Toastmost · 18/12/2021 08:00

People can obviously eat what they want, but the excuses they tell themselves to make themselves feel better are laughable.

worriedatthemoment · 18/12/2021 08:58

@Toastmost same way you can be a judgemental twat and feel good about it i guess

GetInThereLewis · 18/12/2021 11:09

I agree with you Toast

I don't know many people that make excuses about what they eat, but I don't hang around with idiots I guess.
@Toastmost I don't see how someone can love animals but buy a new build house or drive a car all decimate animals on a large scale , where do you stop
I don't love cows so I will happily eat them and they are bred for eating
I wouldn't eat an endangered animal or a wild animal
We are allowed to decide for ourselves you have no right to say what I can be or not
Why do many veggies think its ok to preach at others , you live your life let others live theres

Have you considered that the cows have a right to live their lives?

Have you considered that the cows have a right to live their lives?

Is that meant to be an argument for or against eating meat?

loopylindi · 18/12/2021 13:56

Some years ago we went to an 'animal park' in Vancouver. There was a water tank approx the same size as our ground floor plan - with eight Beluga whales in. I left a comment on Trip advisor which was never posted!!! I wonder why?

PriamFarrl · 18/12/2021 14:09
@Tiramesu yes that's exactly my point.

There was a viral video of someone throwing a cat in the air and everyone was outraged about animal cruelty. Even though the cat was fine, but let's take animals from their natural habitat and lock them up for Forever instead
You know that’s not how most zoos work anymore, right?

Gothisway · 18/12/2021 14:24

I wouldn’t say I’m an animal lover, but I do like animals. I’m more of a nature lover.
I like things to be the way nature intends and I find it endlessly fascinating.
So I do eat a little meat (not loads, I do not think we’re supposed to eat meat everyday), I don’t like animals in captivity, and I do respect animals and don’t like seeing them suffering. But at the end of the day suffering is part of life and you can’t ignore that and live in a happy fantasy land where all animals are saved.

I'm on about on this thread. In real life I don't give two hoots but if someone as part of a discussion started reeling off incorrect myths and mistruths about it to make themselves feel better I wouldn't feel bad about talking about it. I don't start convos about it as its tedious.

Good comeback, I guess ran out of anything intelligent to say?

I wouldn’t class the sort of people that go to sea world as animal lovers. Zoos using animals to entertain people isn’t something I support but they often help in rescue and conservation which is important. I support sanctuaries. I only have pets from rescues. My dogs are spoilt with love but do ‘dog stuff’. I am vegan as I don’t think it’s ok to eat them or exploit them for their products.

trumpisagit · 18/12/2021 14:58

People who care about animals aren't the same people who watch animals perform.
Like all the crazy people in Tiger King who have no respect for the animals.
My children love and care for animals and therefore understand why we would never support performing animals like at Sea world.
