To throw diamond ring away

I'm wondering...what did you do with your wedding/engagement ring after divorce?

OP posts:
AnxiousPixie · 16/12/2021 19:27

Sold it on eBay

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 16/12/2021 19:29

Dramatically throwing a diamond ring into the river only works on TV.

In real life you sell it.

alwayswrighty · 16/12/2021 19:30

Chucked mine out the car window on the way to my new home. Not the most mature thing to do, but he was a prick and I wanted nothing that he gave me.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/12/2021 19:30

I lot of secondhand jewellery is not worth anything like what it will have cost to buy new. I remodelled by wedding ring by setting a stone in it and occasionally wear the engagement ring on the other hand.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 16/12/2021 19:31

eBay. Got more than scrap, anyway Grin

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 16/12/2021 19:31

If I had a dd, I would give it to them when they were sensible enough to look after it- the two parties of the marriage are still her parents.

Otherwise, sell or give away.

randomsabreuse · 16/12/2021 19:32

Sell it and use the money for something that will make you happy - could give it to a cat charity if he hates cats, the RNLI if he's pro Brexit/ inspired by Priti Patel or just something he's been blocking you from getting!

Musmerian · 16/12/2021 19:32

Current DH and I threw our wedding rings into the duck pond in Dulwich Park!

LividLaVidaLoca · 16/12/2021 19:33

I sold mine for about £20 to one of those slightly dodgy places.

Bought a bus ticket to go day drinking with gay best friend.

Found it hilarious at the time.

LadyOfMisrule · 16/12/2021 19:33

I gave mine away to a broke family member.

Were they wedding rings from prior relationships or the ones from your own wedding?
GoddamnCars · 16/12/2021 19:34

I'd lost it and never cared enough to replace it, several years before separation. Probably one of the many signs it was not meant to be.

Suzanne999 · 16/12/2021 19:35

Donated mine to a charity. ( think it was the Red Cross)
Don’t throw a diamond !!!! Even if you don’t want it you can sell, spend the money or donate to a charity which will use it well.

sotiredofthislonelylife · 16/12/2021 19:35

I sold both my rings when I kicked my ‘D’ H out, and it helped (a tiny bit) with debts he left behind when he decided to disappear abroad, thus seemingly absolving himself of the requirement to see/support his 3 offspring.
Bastard.

muddyford · 16/12/2021 19:37

Mine asked what I was going to do with it. "Keep it", I said. I got it made larger and wore it on the other hand.

user159 · 16/12/2021 19:42

Just engagement ring as we never married, posted it to his mum's house in a standard envelope with the right amount of first class stamps on. I included the certificate etc so assume he sold it (if it ever got there Smile)

user478843898 · 16/12/2021 19:43

You might get great satisfaction throwing it in the bin

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/12/2021 19:43

Yes, YA.

Completely understand why you want to be shot of it.

Please remember though that someone far less privileged than you excavated what you are wanting to discard (you must be if you’re seriously considering throwing it away). It’s also a finite resource, needed for all sorts of engineering applications.

Please, sell it and donate to an appropriate charity, perhaps one based in DRifCongo, Botswana or Sierra Leone. (There are larger producers but their people are not so ill-treated in pursuit).

Sorry if I sound pious. Just one of my personal bug bares. Too many privileged people have no idea of the history of what they parade.

julieca · 16/12/2021 19:43

Sell it. If you want to throw it away instead give it to a charity shop to sell.
Or send to me?

user478843898 · 16/12/2021 19:45

On second thought I absolutely agree with @MrsSkylerWhite 👏

Joojoonuts · 16/12/2021 19:45

My sister wears my engagement ring as just a regular ring now. My wedding ring is away in a drawer somewhere (but was very cheap even new).

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 16/12/2021 19:46

Like a pp it got taken during a burglary several years after divorce and I was able to claim for it.

ancientgran · 16/12/2021 19:49

I sold mine to buy some sports kit my kids needed.

CheshireKitten123 · 16/12/2021 19:49

On the night I found out D(ex)H was cheating I took my wedding ring off and threw it at him. I told him to give it to his OW next time they wanted a dirty w/e. He picked it up but I don't know what he did with it.

I sold my engagement ring and paid some bills with it.

anon12345678901 · 16/12/2021 19:52

Wedding ring, I'm not actually sure where it went 😂 Engagement ring I do have, but I did pay for it 🤦🏻‍♀️
