To think we should move Christmas to a different month?

Christmas and all it’s super-spreading events seems to come smack-bang in the middle of Covid and flu season.

Since covid and it’s ever-changing variants appear to be here for good would it not make sense to rearrange Christmas dates?

Perhaps March or April instead.

@BendicksBittermints4Breakfast

Very confusing if it gets moved to a date near Easter! As a child I could never understand that Jesus was born in December yet was a grown man about 3 or 4 months later, being crucified.
WTAF? You're joking right? Did you not realise - even as a child - that Jesus lived about 33 years? And he aged 33 years IN 33 years? He did not grow from baby to adult in 4 months! 🤣🤣🤣
IncessantNameChanger · 16/12/2021 19:21

It's supposed to be the day of Jesus's birth. The entire world celebrates his birth on that day.

You mean move any family meet ups and feasting to another day? You can not move a religious day.

It's very selfish of him to be born on date that now doesn't suit westerners.

LittleRoundRobin · 16/12/2021 19:21

@Allandria You have still not addressed the fact that covid was at a very high peak (in 2020) during March and April. Confused Why are you not acknowledging this fact?

Is this because you have no answer? Wink

Great answer!

Flitter123 · 16/12/2021 19:23

Jesus was actually probably born in September. December is just his official birthday. Maybe we should celebrate it then.

gofg · 16/12/2021 19:24

yeah you might @gofg* but what about the rest of the world??

@xxxGirlCrushxxx - What the hell are you talking about? Most of "the rest of the world" celebrates Christmas in winter already, so how does me enjoying celebrating it in summer affect that?? I live in the Southern Hemisphere Confused

Aimee1987 · 16/12/2021 19:25

We've moved our work christmas team lunch to spring.
However I dont think moving the whole of Christmas is viable. Education
Tion for example centres the academic year around thing like Christmas to break up the year

Frogsonglue · 16/12/2021 19:25

This is one of the most fucking ridiculous things I've ever read on here.

FatCatThinCat · 16/12/2021 19:25

@Opus17

Why does it has to be December? Cause it's Jesus' birthday...

We can't just move birthdays to suit us...

We could as it's not thought to be his actual birthday. More like the Queen's official birthday. He was most likely born around August time as that's the time of year shepherd's would be out in the hills with their sheep.
Travis1 · 16/12/2021 19:26

Fuck me. I thought I’d read it all on this site. I was wrong. Are you quite alright OP? Have you had too much mulled wine?!

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 16/12/2021 19:26

I think the OP knows that. Do you not realise how confusing it could be as a small child learning all this stuff ? Small children are not renowned for having adult logic.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 16/12/2021 19:26

I vote we move covid season to later on in the year instead.

Make the virus work around us instead of us working around the virus.

But when is suitable I can't do March or June im busy is July OK?
antisocialsocialclub · 16/12/2021 19:30

@Northernsoullover

Hell no, imagine the dark miserable months without a little celebration in the middle of it..
This. I can’t get my head around a hot Christmas…and before anyone says ‘Christmas is from a hot part of the world’ it’s not, it used to be Yule before it was replaced 😉

Maybe we can two Christmasses 🤣 Keep Yule where it was and move the biblical version to the Summer. 😂😂

thatsallineed · 16/12/2021 19:31

Hahahahahahaha. Nope.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 16/12/2021 19:33

all this drama for one day....by the time its all organised covid will be long gone

Whammyyammy · 16/12/2021 19:33

@Allandria

Why does it HAVE to be in December?

If it’s going to aggravate the situation with flu and covid every year with parties, work dos, big family gatherings and so on then it makes it perfect sense to change the date to a few months later. People would get used to it.

Why does it have to be in December? Do you really need to ask that question? If you want Christmas to be in the summer, relocate below the equator....simple
FatCatThinCat · 16/12/2021 19:34

Maybe this year we should follow the wisemen and celebrate it 2 years from now instead.

Bagadverts · 16/12/2021 19:34

As PP have said no.

Only suggestion could be to have two bank holidays at another time of year, one after another with at least one when all shops are shut. This would help some people who say they can never get together apart from Christmas as not everyone is off at the same time. (I know of course not everyone as emergency workers, plumbers, utilities operators, carers and others etc would still have to work.)

Not Christmas but a time people can get together.

Blossom64265 · 16/12/2021 19:34

Do people really not know that Christmas was placed when it was so that it would coincide with the already existing winter solstice celebrations? That Christmas is just the current dominant cultural variation of the solstice celebration, but that there are many others still being actively celebrated? No matter what mythology your culture applies, it’s all the same thing underneath.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 16/12/2021 19:37

@LuckyAmy1986

Do you know what Christmas is and why it's on the 25th December??
This...!
RubyKitty · 16/12/2021 19:37

@Allandria

March is still pretty chilly.

Can you honestly say that if it had a positive impact on covid numbers and made the situation better overall every year that you wouldn’t support moving Christmas just a couple of months? I’m not seeing any compelling arguments on this thread to keep it where it is.

I get it seems like a radical concept, but if you really think about it it makes sense!

Well you can forget moving it to March, that’s my birthday and I don’t want to miss out on presents as people would get me a joint Christmas and birthday presents and we all know that’s crap 😂😂
LouiseBelchersBunnyEars · 16/12/2021 19:43

@OnceuponaRainbow18

It was more likely that Jesus was born in august than December any way
We’ve had he was most likely born in March, then June, and now August.

Obviously no one knows, so December seems as good a time as any 🤷‍♀️🤣

ErrolTheDragon · 16/12/2021 19:50

No, I don't want religion interfering with our secular, open to anyone, Summer Solstice celebrations.Grin

godmum56 · 16/12/2021 19:50

@XenoBitch

This has to be one of the mot batshit things I have seen on MN lately.

I might petition to have my birthday changed too.

I know.....its insane
