During the whole of covid I have taken things on face value. Am not anti vax nor a conspiracy thorist. I have heard ot said however, that covid is a Gift to government as they are able us its blanlet to not be accounyable as well as hide behind it when passing bills etc .i fully.know that the virus did not know its christmaa but apart from the timimg does anyone have any similar nagging thoughts?

OP clearly stated that she feels the government are burying stuff behind COVID, not that it’s some worldwide conspiracy.

I think governments of all stripes try and burry shit that makes them look bad and other bad news is good cover - so I'd agree.

I think this government has an added level of panic - understandable in at start - and incompetence and stuff that's not popular they want to do for idological reasons they can slip in - on top of "normal" governments and the opposition often doesn't come across at very effective at holding them to account.

Also have NHS - which already had massive issues - and Scotland and Wales doing things differently all the time with it never clear if it's playing poltics or really needed.

Main stream media has also seemed very negative/worst case and IMO often slow to update - and there's a lot of fake news and static noise on top - apparently not uncommon in such sitautaions - and then there US poltics that drifts across which took bizzare decsion to polarised everything about the situation.

I think two years of all that and many have got cynical especially as many of the covid rules/guidance have't always made sense plus many people adding their own. (My IL had friends serioulsy insit they wouldn't be able to enter Wales without a covid pass )

Strange times - we're all jab as much as possible re-thinking our contacts and waiting with bated breath to find out if our kids will be able to go to school in January.

In any situation the government will look to make use of media to influence the public on stories it does want them to focus on, and distract away from those they don't. There are good days you bury bad news. If you've watched any episodes of "In The Thick of It" that's starting to look less like satire and more like documentary.
Do I believe the world leaders could conspire on Covid? No, I don't believe the government could conspire with itself it's so beaurocratic and incompetent.
I could be tempted to believe the current "booster" jab PR drive is a way to whip up a bit of blitz spirit among the public and give Boris/The Cons the opportunity to "save" Christmas. Not sure whether there's a clear data picture of how close to crisis Omnicrom is bringing the UK but it's not that I don't believe in it - just haven't seen the data.

Look at the history of pandemics (how often they occur). We've been lucky in Europe to avoid many but the rest of the world had Zika, SARS, MERS etc to cope with while Europe mainly remained unscathed.

Power and money are up for grabs when these things happen.

But make no mistake, covid is real and a serious global threat. The vaccines are more important to keeping the global economies turning than big pharma are making out of it. Lock downs and measures are not some Orwellian device to control society (there was plenty of that already).

I’m not a conspiracy theorist am pro vax and masks and I don’t think restrictions etc are anything to do with our current political situation… however, the tories will use any bad news situation to their advantage to cover up their ideological and damaging policy making, like for example how the NHS is being used as a scapegoat for everything that’s wrong with the pandemic which is causing people to justify its privatisation. People are appearing to be so sick of hearing how the nhs can’t cope they’ve got fatigue and don’t care what happens to it. I’ve seen so many threads on here saying that.
