During the whole of covid I have taken things on face value. Am not anti vax nor a conspiracy thorist. This! There seems to be a severe lack of reading ability whenever it comes to COVID threads. OP clearly stated that she feels the government are burying stuff behind COVID, not that it’s some worldwide conspiracy.

The irony is that those without reading ability, are shouting loudly about ops intelligence

As has been said already, Covid is real it has affected EVERY country in the World.
In UK there is incompetence and laziness in Government.
But that was challenged by Conservative MPs this week, about a 100 of them. They are tired of it too.
From my reading BoJo is only PM because there are no obvious candidates to take over.
Bojo was selected to draw a line under Brexit which he has done. Because there is no way back to EU. We are outside of EU for 20 years.
If Teresa May had continued we would still be arguing and that would have made us very unhappy.
Blonde Buffon also was expected to see off Corbyn. He has.
Now we start again. We all start again Tory, Labour (Wes Streeting spoke well) and others.

This.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for a moment, in that you may not be a conspiracy theorist (yet), but your questioning style is very familiar. It's what all the top tinfoilers have taught their cult members to do. What if I told you...? Aren't you just a little bit suspicious about...? Sound familiar? Have you been listening to the people who are 'just asking questions'? Cos they'll lead you down that path with them, either cos they believe all the conspiraloonery, or they want your money, or both.

If, however, you are a full on tinfoil hat wearer thinking you're so clever by getting people to debate your leading question, get lost, it's so fucking predictable and I hate what it's done to people.

Alexandra2001 · 16/12/2021 11:10

I was listening to the business news today, someone was asked about the effects of Omicron on the 'markets.
He said something quite interesting, countries around the world are responding to this new variant very differently and the UK is reacting very quickly and very hard, with very little support in place for businesses affected.

That may well be prove to be the right decision, however, even the most true blue Boris fan must admit that the timing of Omicron for Boris was most fortuitous.

Yeah, he sounds great. Not a conspiracy theorist at all.

thevassal · 16/12/2021 12:18

I certainly don't think there's some sort of worldwide conspiracy to chip us all so Bill Gates can track our every movement. Given the general uselessness of most politicians I can't see how they could have possibly orchestrated a worldwide pandemic.

I do think that our (and likely other governments) are taking advantage of covid in various ways -whether that's breaking the NHS so the "need" for private health care becomes undeniable, prioritising certain news topics to take attention away from others, or even using reactions as a way of measuring social reactions/compliance to lockdown etc. to other rules they could implement in future....e.g. they didn't decide to lockdown to see how blindly people would follow rules/inform on others etc but that doesn't mean they didn't note it and might inform their decision making in the future....

Fomofo · 16/12/2021 12:23

Politics4me, yeah let's not teach the feckers to read in the first place, that should sort it

Ciaram55 · 16/12/2021 12:27

No I don't agree. I have this constantly with my sister who thinks governments around the world have signed up to allow the economy to collapse and bring in the new digital age. Cash will become obsolete she says. Apparently agenda 21 is here.

I'm sick of hearing about it. It's got to the stage where it's all she wants to talk about.

Cocomarine · 16/12/2021 12:30

I’m impressed that the U.K. cleverly started it all in China.

Do I think the government would take advantage of the distraction for other aims? Hell yeah.

Do I think they invented it? No more than the inverted the tin foil in your hat.

PicsInRed · 16/12/2021 12:33

I don't think covid was contrived in any way.

I do think a robust response was warranted.

I do also think though that it is now being harnessed as a pretext and a cover to reduce the freedoms of ordinary people and restrict our ability to travel freely.

Squeezita · 16/12/2021 12:37

Why do all the conspiracy theorists always preface their posts with 'I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist but...'

Squeezita · 16/12/2021 12:39

During the whole of covid I have taken things on face value. Am not anti vax nor a conspiracy thorist.

Read as: "My opinion carries more weight, LISTEN TO MEEEEE..'

Echobelly · 16/12/2021 12:41

Yeah, there are much easier ways to hide dodgy laws coming in, they've done it enough times before. Plus this government is hardly facing a crisis of electablity no matter how appalling they are apparently.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 16/12/2021 12:43

Don't be ridiculous OP

Comedycook · 16/12/2021 12:45

Careful op.... nowadays you're considered extremely stupid if you ever question the government.

Funny times...

ivykaty44 · 16/12/2021 12:49

I do think the op could have probably been better to use the word cynical instead of conspiracy, but the thread just shows that people read a few words and others that clearly aren't there

WhereYouLeftIt · 16/12/2021 12:50

In the same vein, you could say World War 2 was a gift. You weren't even allowed to leave your curtains open at night FFS - talk about micromanaging!

There is no "hidden agenda" - the idea that this government could hide their 'evil plans' is laughable, they're an incompetent bunch.

TBH, the real gift to our current government is having an opposition in disarray.

Ohnomoreno · 16/12/2021 12:52

Your wording is a little confusing, but I certainly agree that giving solemn TV addresses about covid without much additional information (because there isn't any) is allowing Johnson off the hook for much of his incompetence. He creates a sense of crisis and hey presto the press isn't talking about the Police and Crime bill that removes our rights, the Online Harms potential for censorship, or indeed Christmas parties...
