@YetAnotherSpartacus

Can't believe that 25% voted YANBU. I thought MN was more intelligent than that.
I dont know.

Spring/summer 2020 was crazy on here.

Posters suggesting cheese for your coffee, milk wasn't essential, you were allowed in your own garden or to have windows open, you would get eatser eggs confiscated by the police, not dying your hair was visible proof you stuck rigidly to made up lock down rules and was a sign of someone's moral superiority

It was batshit then as well.

DrManhattan · 16/12/2021 09:54

No they are opportunists and taking advantage to brush other things under the carpet.
I'm not surprised people are confused and looking for meaning. What was that conference last night about? Go out, don't go out, but go out, don't go out ........

antisocialsocialclub · 16/12/2021 09:54

The pandemic is real.

Our government are just incompetent.

Every country in the world isn’t going along with a fake pandemic to help our Government slide a few laws by the back door.

sashh · 16/12/2021 09:56

I've said this before, all governments take opportunities to do things, whether that be using the murder of James Bulger to remove doli incapax to the laws being passed while we are all up in arms about a party (or three).

911 allowed the US to pass laws and gave any government that wanted an excuse to invade Iraq.

NCnotmyusualone · 16/12/2021 09:59

No. And if you knew many people who are working in acute hospitals (and I imagine any other medical care setting) you would not be thinking that either. Everyone is already on their knees, and shitting bricks about what the next few months will almost certainly be bringing.

This government has already conclusively proven that they have zero accountability for anything they do, we all see it, fuck all changes, and there are still people who thinks the sun shines out of Boris’ backside. If anything, covid has shone a glaring spotlight upon their lack of accountability, moral compass and their stunning arrogance. Not deflected from it.

antisocialsocialclub · 16/12/2021 10:02

That just shows how out of touch a lot of MN are. I both stuck to the rules and had immaculately dyed hair (box dyes snd online retailers, fancy that) 😊

SickAndTiredAgain · 16/12/2021 10:03

@Unsure33

No. This is a worldwide pandemic.

You can always listen to pmq if you want to know what is going on.

No one can control virus variants.

Well I disagree with the OP but are you saying listening to PMQs tells you what’s going on? Listening to that man bumble his way through not answering the questions?

The press conferences where grown ups like Whitty talk would be where I’d get some actual information.

Jux · 16/12/2021 10:04

'blanlet' is the only bit I've not been able to decipher - I feel a 'doh' moment coming - but I think I've got the gist. I enjoy conspiracy theories though I don't believe them, so sorry, op, no. The ridiculousness of it is fun so have a laugh with it, but fgs don't take it seriously.

lunar1 · 16/12/2021 10:05

Scotland has been campaigning to leave the UK forever. We can't get along with France. We voted and left the EU. I don't even understand the complexity of the issues for Northern Ireland.

The government can't keep their sex life, miss spending of public funds or illegal lockdown parties a secret.

But yeah, it could totally be possible that this is a global conspiracy where every government is in complete agreement and there have been no leaks. 🤦🏻‍♀️

SenseSphere · 16/12/2021 10:07

Not sure why most of the nation’s scientists and medical professionals would lie to cover up Boris’ bad news.

It’s a pandemic. Circumstances change. The government reacts to what’s happening. I don’t always agree with what they do but that’s pretty much it.

MorningStarling · 16/12/2021 10:08

The pandemic is real. The only "conspiracy theory" that has any real mileage is the fact that it is a manmade virus that originated from a lab in China. That becomes more likely each day (because usually there is a close or identical virus in animals, and it can be shown how the virus moved from another species to humans - it's astonishing no such link has been found two years later).

But the idea that all governments around the world have got together and actually agreed to stage a pandemic is laughable. Does anyone seriously believe every single government could agree on an issue? Especially when it means lying to your public? Hell, North Korea accept the virus exists, just that there are no cases within its borders. If the virus were fabricated don't you think North Korea would be leaping at the opportunity to further lockdown its citizens?

VickyEadieofThigh · 16/12/2021 10:08

@FatCatThinCat

No. Unless you're suggesting that governments around the world are collaborating with De Spaffle to undermine British democracy.
Indeed. I couldn't vote Tory to save someone's life and loathe De Spaffle (great name, which I shall use from now on) more than I loathed Thatcher (and my Dad was a coal miner), but the notion that he's somehow behind some massive hidden agenda gives him credit for some kind of competence.
Dontforgetyourbrolly · 16/12/2021 10:09

OP you are never being unreasonable to consider an alternative way of thinking . I'm not saying it's phone masts or anything else batshit crazy but there are definitely things we are not privy to , being mere plebs. There is more to this story for sure .
Intelligence is not nodding along to Daily Mail headlines and allowing a clown to dictate the best thing for your family .

Hadjab · 16/12/2021 10:15

@Canigooutyet

Yes it is a gift for them to pass laws we don't want. The Covid pass for example paves the way for national ID and the requirement to provide ID to vote.

I've read the op several times and no where do they state it was created by government.

This! There seems to be a severe lack of reading ability whenever it comes to COVID threads. OP clearly stated that she feels the government are burying stuff behind COVID, not that it’s some worldwide conspiracy.
Zilla1 · 16/12/2021 10:15

If it is a conspiracy, OP, could you please ask that primary care is given more notice than 8pm on Sunday evening that the heroic task of offering booster vaccinations by January is now by the end of December. It's been an even less fun week than normal and any adequate conspiracy should be able to plan a little.

Thewiseoneincognito · 16/12/2021 10:15

LOL @Nanoo1234 bless you, do you actually think our government are really capable of initiating a world wide pandemic to invoke economically destructive laws of benefit to absolutely no one?

In the kindest most gentle softest way possible perhaps stay off the a Covid threads for a while.

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 16/12/2021 10:20

What on Earth do the Government stand to gain? We're in a massive recession, they've got 100,000 deaths hanging over their heads and their reputation is shot. Why would they have orchestrated it, and how would they have got literally every other country, and all the experts, on board?

Nanoo1234 · 16/12/2021 10:24

I did not mean at all that the pandemic is not real. ! I meant that it may be a tool that is being used to the govs advantage.eg less accountability as all eyes on pandemic!.

Still no.
CallMeNutribullet · 16/12/2021 10:28

I kind of get you in a sense op. The pandemic is real but the approach to Omicron is political. We don't need restrictions until we know more about how Omicron is impacting hospitalisations. It appears to be milder and not killing people in South Africa where it's the dominant strain, yet the rhetoric from both the Scottish and UK government around it has been very dramatic

Fridaynight2021 · 16/12/2021 10:28

I think I know what you mean OP. I work in healthcare, I’ve had my vaccines, I’ve had covid and felt deathly, I’ve followed the rules etc. But just in the last week I’ve started thinking something is off. I don’t have a clue what it could be, I can’t see any way that world leaders could have colluded to do this. I genuinely think they’re too thick and don’t work as a team. Plus I can’t see a clear motive, unless it was for a small group of powerful individuals to become insanely rich via drug companies/vaccines. But it’s stopped making such obvious sense to me. It was hearing the emotionally manipulative ‘don’t let your children miss out on the fun this winter’ vaccine radio adverts that gave me the utter creeps. I felt like I was in an episode of Black Mirror. Something just feels a bit off for me. And I’m very much pro-vaccine and wish everyone would get one! It’s a funny way to feel.

DismantledKing · 16/12/2021 10:30

Ironically the stuff that the conspiracy theorists are getting het up about are a red herring. The problem isn’t with ‘vaccine passports’ but with criminalising the right to protest, and disenfranchising people with voter ID requirements.
It’s the Home Office that are the authoritarians, especially with Priti Patel at the helm.

gogohm · 16/12/2021 10:32

I think the omicron thing is very much real but the government are deliberately upping the scare tactics to get people to be vaccinated, especially getting parents to consent to teens.

Furiousfalala · 16/12/2021 10:32

It looks likely that it is an engineered virus that has either escaped a lab somewhere by accident or intentionally.

Covid continues to undermine governments and societies around the world destabilising existing norms, structures and economies. Every time we feels it's getting under control a new variant hits is. People live now in permanent uncertainty and the most human instincts of being social is being continuously undermined. It's a big deal and is subverting our social fabric dramatically. It's all very, very sad.

I think life as we have know it up until now is over Sad.
