During the whole of covid I have taken things on face value. Am not anti vax nor a conspiracy thorist. I have heard ot said however, that covid is a Gift to government as they are able us its blanlet to not be accounyable as well as hide behind it when passing bills etc .i fully.know that the virus did not know its christmaa but apart from the timimg does anyone have any similar nagging thoughts?

OP posts:
SickAndTiredAgain · 16/12/2021 09:28

If you mean that governments could use this situation to their advantage (like giving contracts to their mates while saying “well we had to do it quickly and without scrutiny, it was an emergency) then yes. Obviously some people will always profit from problems/disasters/chaos of any kind, and governments aren’t an exception.

If you mean fabricating medical data (whether it’s making up covid completely, or lying about its severity) then no.

Darkpheonix · 16/12/2021 09:28

@Canigooutyet

Yes it is a gift for them to pass laws we don't want. The Covid pass for example paves the way for national ID and the requirement to provide ID to vote.

I've read the op several times and no where do they state it was created by government.

So which anti vaxers and conspiracy theories is op referring to?

And there people who are anti vax because they think the borlvernement is using the situation to their advantage?

PaulGallico · 16/12/2021 09:29

@Nanoo1234 you need occupation - that isn't setting up a 'conspiracy theory' type of thread on MN. Go outside, take a walk, get some fresh air.

Lorriestakingppe · 16/12/2021 09:30

Well that told you didn't it.

sunflowerstory · 16/12/2021 09:31

Why would the government need to hide behind anything? No matter the scandals that come to light, the public has happily voted in this bunch of bastards every chance they get.

hamstersarse · 16/12/2021 09:32

Incompetence is not a conspiracy, it's just plain old incompetence

heldinadream · 16/12/2021 09:32

Governments everywhere will exploit circumstances to their advantage. Hidden agenda in covid? Whose agenda? Biden, Johnson and Putin? All together laughing at us in secret?
Insane. Get a fucking grip.

Sparklingbrook · 16/12/2021 09:33

No. YABU and there’s a topic for this. Although there should be some Coronavirus sub topics IMO.

AstroBunny · 16/12/2021 09:34

Firstly, you are the very definition of a conspiracy theorist.

Secondly, your post is hard to read as it’s so full of typos. Try proof reading before posting 🤷🏻‍♀️

saoirse31 · 16/12/2021 09:37

23% of people agree with you 🤔....

Reallybadidea · 16/12/2021 09:39

Omicron is very, very bad news politically for BJ. So where does the conspiracy come in? Even if he wanted to introduce id cards or whatever by stealth (he doesn't) then how does he do that if his own party (who ideologically hate restrictions on personal liberty) have overthrown him?

ivykaty44 · 16/12/2021 09:41

that covid is a Gift to government as they are able us its blanlet to not be accounyable as well as hide behind it when passing bills etc

yes, this how a corrupt government behaves

we are being stripped of the right to protest against it....

Katkins67 · 16/12/2021 09:41

Errr - nope!

IncompleteSenten · 16/12/2021 09:42

That covid is being made up or made out to be far more dangerous than it is and they're closing businesses down off and on as part of a dastardly plan - no.
The economy matters more to governments than anything else - global warming, modern day slavery, big businesses playing by the rules etc. Fuck it. Economy first.

I seriously doubt governments around the world would wreck their economies in order to allow the UK to sneak a few laws past a hugely politically apathetic population with a historically pathetic voter turnout and more interest in and knowledge and understanding of who's winning what skating or singing or jungle living show than politics.

However - are the UK government taking advantage and trying to slip things under the radar? Yes. This is nothing new. They hide bad news on the last day of parliament so they drop it then scurry off on their hols. 9/11 was "a good day to bury bad news"

I agree
Zilla1 · 16/12/2021 09:43

In what way has the UK government demonstrated the competence to hide and deliver any hidden agenda, let alone coordinate this with other nations with wildly competing interests? And that involving crippling many of its commercial stakeholders and incurring debts on a scale politically beyond its preferences. It's not so much a Holmesian, 'when nothing else remains' nor needing Occam's razor, more of the impossibility of the premise. Along with the Vatican owning everything, the Great Reset, chips in vaccines and every other 'you'll see' that is conveniently forgotten when the event passes, only for the next insanity to be put forward, this is simply a pandemic with a relatively unusual and elusive virus that shows all the random variation and subsequent mutations entirely consistent with an origin in the wild.

If you want to look for a conspiracy, perhaps look at which companies/nation states might benefit from the accumulation of information on as many individuals as possible's facial recognition, voice recognition, gait analysis, DNA from fake ancestry and family trees, social media history, locational data and everything else that your smartphone practical and fun apps have encouraged most people to provide over the last ten? years.

Essexmummy88 · 16/12/2021 09:44

have you been on the sauce already...

Some people find it hard to read, some people find it hard to write

You’d think as you struggled a bit understanding the OPs post that you’d be a little bit more empathetic

Blinkingbatshit · 16/12/2021 09:47

I think you need a break - a long cold walk or shower may help👍

godmum56 · 16/12/2021 09:48

Yabu, also silly.

getsanta · 16/12/2021 09:50

People really are losing the plot.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/12/2021 09:51

Can't believe that 25% voted YANBU. I thought MN was more intelligent than that.

ivykaty44 · 16/12/2021 09:52

tbh if people are unaware that the "leaked" Downing Street party news was a decoy - then when its pointed out, they think you're mad... well back away slowly

Chasingaftermidnight · 16/12/2021 09:52

No. They’ve used it to bury bad news, sure, but governments have always done that, it’s standard PR practice - remember the leaked memo that said that 9/11 was a ‘good day to bury bad news’?

Unsure33 · 16/12/2021 09:54

No. This is a worldwide pandemic.

You can always listen to pmq if you want to know what is going on.

No one can control virus variants.
