For those of you who still have grandparents alive! How old are you?

Or how old were you when they passed?

I was 16 when my granparents from mom’s side died.

And somewhere in my 20’s when from dad’s side passed.
Although we weren’t in touch at all, not sure why.

I don’t know why I ask, I guess I just realised that I wasn’t around older generation much.

I'm 41, my dads mum is 93/4. Paternal grandfather when I was 16.
Grandparents on my mothers side passed before I was born.

HopefulProcrastinator · 15/12/2021 14:53

My oldest cousin for my surviving grandparent is 46, my grandparent is still "only" in their 80s but has a whole tribe to follow them which includes over 40 direct descendants (I keep losing count).

It's been 20 years with only one grandparent so they are very cherished.

suckingonyulelogs · 15/12/2021 14:53

My last grandparent died when I was 37. I knew both sets of great grandparents on my mums side very well and my paternal great grandad slightly. One of them fought in WW1.

EarlyCalenderCh0c0 · 15/12/2021 14:56

I see that someone on this thread has a relative of 108 ! Which could potentially lead to 5 generations being alive at once.

I was early 30s when my last GP passed away in their early 90s
I knew all 4 GPs

Everley · 15/12/2021 14:57

I am 35 and have one grandparent left. The others died when I was 16, 22 and around 25/26.

I have struggled so much with the loss of my grandparents, and still do now. I can’t believe it is almost 20 years since I lost my first grandparent. I still feel so heartbroken and can’t imagine it will ever feel easier if it hasn’t after 2 decades.

Quartz2208 · 15/12/2021 14:57

I am 42 and have one left - 97 year old Grandma. My 89 year old Nan died just before Covid kicked off in January 2020, One Grandad at 85 in 2015 and the other died when I was 21 (although he was 87).

My two children met 4 great grandparents (DH Nan died in 2017 at 95). They have only met 3 grandparents though as DH mum died before they were born

Notdoingthis · 15/12/2021 14:58

One died before I was born.
One when I was 7.
One when I was 21
I am now 38 and my last surviving grandparent is 98.

DH Nan had that at 95, her youngest daughter had a baby at 18, who had a baby at 18, who had a baby at 16. Her great great grandson was older than the rest of the great grandchildren (apart from his mum of course)
TheChild · 15/12/2021 15:01

I'm early 30s and very luckily all my grandparents are still with us.

cstaff · 15/12/2021 15:01

Wow - I cant believe some of these posts. To still have grandparents around in your 50's and 60's is pretty amazing.

My last one died when I was only 9 and my little sis was only 6. The others either died before I was born or if I was born I didn't really remember them as I was too young.

emmathedilemma · 15/12/2021 15:01

My last grandparent died when I was 40.

IgneousRock · 15/12/2021 15:01

Two of my grandparents died before I was born.
The other two when I was 11 and 24.
They were aged between 59 and 91 when they died.

BlackCatTabbyCat · 15/12/2021 15:04

I'm 30 with a 79 year old gran. My other gran died when I was 9, my papa when I was 11 and my other papa when I was 22. I also have a step gran in late 80s.

My almost 34 year old partner still has all 4 grandparents and all still in good health. He also has step grandparents who are still alive as well. His great gran only died a few years ago. I think this is quite unusual.

Goldandguns · 15/12/2021 15:04

I'm 30, mum is 57, nan is 74. She has 10 great grandchildren (not all from me Grin)

Boredandsingle · 15/12/2021 15:05

I'm In my early 30s and I have one grandparent left who is 87 - my partner is in mid 40s and has one grandparent left who is in their 90s!

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 15/12/2021 15:05

When I was little I had 3 great grandparents, they all died before I was 10 probably. My grandparents, paternal DGM died when I was about 25ish I think, DGF, when I was 33, my maternal DGP's are still alive and I'm 36. They're mid-late 80's and in pretty good nick still (they both are children of two of the great grandparents who were alive when I was a child!).

Hendalle · 15/12/2021 15:06

I’m 38, have one grandparent left. She is 96!
Also only have mum left as dad died when I was a teenager.

winterbabyrose · 15/12/2021 15:06

I'm 26 years old, and lost my mum's father when I was 2 (he was in his late 40s - heart attack) and lost my mum's mother when I was 16 (she was in her late 50s - cancer). So lost both grandparents on mum's side by the age of 16.

My grandparents on my dad's side are still alive and kicking in their 70s currently.

BlackCatTabbyCat · 15/12/2021 15:06

@Airfixkitwidow

I'm 64, my mum is 87 and my grandma is 108. All three of us still well and healthy.

Grandma has 4 great great grandchildren.

Oh wow just seen this post. Makes my partner's very unimpressive 😂
Frlrlrubert · 15/12/2021 15:06

Myself: 5 (my gran was only 64), 9, 19, 23 (my grandad was 92)

DH is 42 and his gran is 90, she's got four children, 5 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren

newyearsresolurion · 15/12/2021 15:07

42 one granny left 88. Other grandma died last year at 100. Hope I live long enough to see grand/ great grand kids too

Goldandguns · 15/12/2021 15:07

Forgot to add mum's DF sadly passed when he was in his 40s, on my dad's side GM and GF both died within months of each other in their late 80s, I was 21.

middleager · 15/12/2021 15:07

I was 40 when my nan died at 99. I never knew my other GPs but knew her well. She got to meet my kids, which was lovely.

cecinestpasunepipe · 15/12/2021 15:08

My 43 year old daughter's grandmother, my mother, died two weeks ago aged 96. I am 69.

Just10moreminutesplease · 15/12/2021 15:09

I have one grandma left and I’m 31. She’s in her 80s but still remarkably fit. I hope we have her around for a long time to come.

I lost both grandads when I was little and my other gran in my early 20s.
