Do you wash the toilet with the same cloth as the rest of the bathroom ?

I was always taught to have a special sponge / cloth which only gets used to wash / wipe the toilet.

The sink and shower etc are wiped down with a different cloth.

MIL uses the same cloth for the entire bathroom.

I find that strange. How do you do it ?

Same cloth. Toilet last

shinynewapple21 · 14/12/2021 21:24

Toilet in separate room . No I wouldn't clean the sink with something I had cleaned the toilet with .

TokyoTen · 14/12/2021 22:44

Same cloth but do the loo last. Then v hot wash the cloths.

EishetChayil · 14/12/2021 22:46

🤮

@teaandtoastwithmarmite

Flushable toilet wipes
Do not believe the flushable claims! Eventually they will clog up your drains. Put them in the bin.
ichundich · 14/12/2021 22:56

Yes, but I'd do the toilet last and then chuck the cloth in the hot wash at 60 or 90 degrees.

User112 · 14/12/2021 22:57

Why and where do you all use cloth? 🤔
Genuine question!!
Bathroom cleaning spray and wipe down surfaces with toilet paper. Floor wipes for the floor (they go in the bin).

gukvguk · 14/12/2021 23:01

I once caught my housemate cleaning the loo brush in the kitchen sink next to the dishes (student days) 🤢

Different cloth for the loo to the rest of the bathroom.

Mammyloveswine · 14/12/2021 23:08

Absolutely different cloths!!

JaniceBattersby · 14/12/2021 23:09

Can I just pop up to say there is no such thing as flushable wipes. Please don’t put them down the toilet. If you have to use them, put them in the bin. I’ve stood in front of a 10m fathers caused by wipes going down toilets. It was not fun.

The only things that should ever go down the toilet are things that come out of human orifices and toilet paper.

@MsJaneAusten

Hahahah. I love threads like this for making me feel like a slattern. I use the same cloth for the whole bathroom, toilet last (though not the bowl, that is done with a brush as needed), bung it in a normal wash.

Toilet paper, soaking in bleach, ‘flushable’ wipes, one-use cloths, boil washes… this all sounds pretty environmentally unfriendly.

Same here, nobody's limbs have dropped off yet.
NowEvenBetter · 15/12/2021 01:18

I don’t use ‘cloths’ to clean the bog, and the shitter gets wiped with spray + toilet roll.

Toilet doesn’t need cleaned with a filthy plastic brush after shitting. See a doctor. Bleach every few months.

Get a hobby.

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 15/12/2021 01:28

I can’t believe that there are people - on Mumsnet of all places, where, let’s be honest, there will be a larger than normal cohort of people who do regular household cleaning - who still think wipes are flushable.

Wipes are not flushable. Not even flushable wipes.

Stop flushing them.

LoveFall · 15/12/2021 01:35

One cloth, with toilet very last.

Washed with my other cloths on a cycle called sanitary.

repottingthescabious · 15/12/2021 01:46

@MousesBack

I use bleach spray on a wad of loo roll for wiping the toilet, then flush it away. Have a scratchy sponge for cleaning the bath and sink.
snap
NightOwlWoes · 15/12/2021 01:58

Of course I don't use the same cloth. People actually do? That's absolutely disgusting!

RobertSmithsLipstick · 15/12/2021 02:01

I chip the poo marks off with a hammer and chisel.

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/12/2021 06:49

Different clothes, which I thought most people did - but if you do the loo last and then hot wash I guess it’s fine.

bumblingbovine49 · 15/12/2021 08:04

Same cloth but I wash surfaces / tiles first, then use it on the floor, then the toilet last. For the toilet I wipe the outside and then the top of the seat, underneath the seat and last the toilet bowl rim in that order. Then the cloth goes in with sheets and towels ( not kitchen cloths) at a very high temperature, 70-80 Deg ( depending on my mood)

Smorgasborb · 15/12/2021 08:34

@Fallagain

Yes, but I use a disposable clothes and do the toilet last and then bin it.
Disposable clothes is going a bit far.

Yes, they really are flushable - well, some of them! Smile

Fine to Flush is now a water industry standard and you can test it out in your own sink. The wipes really do disintegrate in water. It’s pretty cool.

Adelerous · 15/12/2021 08:41

Not all wipes are flushable - you need to look for the Fine to Flush logo Smile

Chely · 15/12/2021 08:42

I use loo roll to wipe the loo down.

Fallagain · 15/12/2021 15:14

@Smorgasborb it would help enormously with the laundry and is very tempting this week.
