Do you wash the toilet with the same cloth as the rest of the bathroom ?

I was always taught to have a special sponge / cloth which only gets used to wash / wipe the toilet.

The sink and shower etc are wiped down with a different cloth.

MIL uses the same cloth for the entire bathroom.

I find that strange. How do you do it ?

yes , do the loo last and then put it in the wash
loo roll used for cleaning = what a waste of paper !

TheVanguardSix · 14/12/2021 14:10

yes , do the loo last and then put it in the wash

Although, yes... I do this sometimes.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/12/2021 14:11

We have a new toilet installed every week. HTH

BingBongToTheMoon · 14/12/2021 14:16

Same cloth, toilet last boil wash straight afterwards.

Fifilafrog · 14/12/2021 14:39

Spray toilet with antibac whatever, leave for required contact time, wipe with loo roll and flush.

ClintBartonsWife · 14/12/2021 14:41

Blue for the loo, pink for the sink!

Lolololololol · 14/12/2021 15:37

@whattodo2019

Blues for loos Pinks for sinks
Came on to say the exact same thing! My DM taught me that from and early age 😀
Lolololololol · 14/12/2021 15:43

Yeah, I like to clean, then rinse the cloth and wipe again, I'm not going to do that if I've already cleaned my sink, so loo defo has to be the first thing cleaned for me!

RealBecca · 14/12/2021 15:48

Like your MIL. Toilet last. Chuck all the cloths in for a hot wash after.

Never been sick so even if its perceived as disgusting by mumsnet it cant actually be spreading poo particles sround.

longwayoff · 14/12/2021 15:53

Yuk. Anti bac spray and loo roll. White vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and silicon loo brush for scale, which is fairly often given the amount of limescale generated in this area.

oviraptor21 · 14/12/2021 16:08

Different cloths. Never in a million years loo roll or wet wipes. Ditto the toilet brush which is ony suitable for surface skid marks and does not keep limescale at bay.

MintJulia · 14/12/2021 16:16

Yes. I clean the basin, then the bath, window sills etc, then the loo.

Then the cloth goes in a bucket of weak bleach, is rinsed in cold water, then goes in a hot wash with jeans etc.

Bayleaf25 · 14/12/2021 16:56

Use those cheap sponge scourers - clean bath and sink first, loo last and then throw away. Sometimes use the disposable wet-wipes (again sorry planet). I hope I make up for the environment in other ways but I suppose that's what everyone says.

I don't like the thought of washing the loo cloth with my towels etc. (although I'm sure a hot wash would deal with germs).

I only do a 'full' clean once a week so don't use a sponge every day.

Tulips21 · 14/12/2021 16:58

I use a cloth for bathroom ( seperate to toilet) and for the toilet I ise toilet paper and flush after.
All sprayed with bleach.
Using the same cloth for toilet is grim

Horst · 14/12/2021 17:15

Toilet gets cleaned with wipes or a sponge that’s binned each time.

I am not having a toilet rag In My washer that’s just eugh.

knittingaddict · 14/12/2021 17:23

I use paper kichen towel for the loo and cloths for the sink, shower and bath. I wash all cloths on a hot wash once a week with the towels.

cheapskatemum · 14/12/2021 17:32

When I was a chambermaid at a posh hotel, I was taught for each en suite to clean the toilet last. The cloth was then washed at maximum temperature to kill the germs.

FangsForTheMemory · 14/12/2021 17:34

I use an old dishwashing sponge. Loo last, then soak the sponge in bleach.

hotmeatymilk · 14/12/2021 17:34

Same cloth I use for my bum.

badg3r · 14/12/2021 19:14

I use the same but do the toilet last and clean on a hot wash

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 14/12/2021 19:38

I just use wet wipes on external parts and a toilet brush on the bowl. It gets changed regularly though and isn't used to clean skid marks.

Adelerous · 14/12/2021 19:41

@0palescent

I draw the line with flushable wipes, they block drains (our outside drain is prone to blocking v easily) or make their way to join one of those giant fatbergs 🤢
A few years ago they might have, but not any more. They disintegrate in water.
BigYellowHat · 14/12/2021 19:45

Gross!

TruJay · 14/12/2021 20:28

I once saw my mother in law wipe the downstairs toilet and then walk into the kitchen and wipe down the worktop, yes with the SAME cloth 🤮

VestaTilley · 14/12/2021 20:39

No I use a separate sponge and wear blue cleaning gloves. I also do the loo last after bath, sink and shower.

As most of us use fairly strong chemicals it’s probably not the end of the world either way, but I wouldn’t use the same cloth.
