Do you wash the toilet with the same cloth as the rest of the bathroom ?

I was always taught to have a special sponge / cloth which only gets used to wash / wipe the toilet.

The sink and shower etc are wiped down with a different cloth.

MIL uses the same cloth for the entire bathroom.

I find that strange. How do you do it ?

Blues for loos
Pinks for sinks

SilverHairedCat · 14/12/2021 09:02

I wash the bathroom first, then the toilet last. Same cloth. Separate one for the floor as the cloth is too manky by then.

Endofdaysarehere · 14/12/2021 09:03

Same cloth, toilet last.

I’m now starting to see why other people go through so much toilet paper.

Angel2702 · 14/12/2021 09:04

No not even the top of the cistern. Use a silicone brush and then spray and wipe the rest with loo roll.

MarvEll · 14/12/2021 09:04

When you say you use one cloth and then wash it after - do you do just a wash with one cloth in it? Or do you have many bathrooms / somehow make up a full load?

xmastreezz · 14/12/2021 09:05

What about toilet brushes. If you don't have one, how do people clean the toilet after they've gone ?

Depends on my mood. Sometimes I have some of those v thin blue cloths you can buy for about £1 for 10, I'll use those on the toilet and throw away. But if I don't have any, I'll use the same bathroom cloth, clean the toilet last, then put it in a hot wash.

ComDummings · 14/12/2021 09:08

Pink for sink, blue for loo

ComDummings · 14/12/2021 09:09

Tbh I just spray it (last) and wipe it all off with toilet roll and flush it

starfishmummy · 14/12/2021 09:10

My toilet is not in the bathroom so it has its own cleaning cloths.

BeyondOurReef · 14/12/2021 09:11

Yes.

But I wash the whole rest of the bathroom, finish with the toilet and then boil wash the sponge.

LaBellina · 14/12/2021 09:11

I always use toilet paper for cleaning the loo and a toilet brush for the inside.

MsJaneAusten · 14/12/2021 09:11

Hahahah. I love threads like this for making me feel like a slattern. I use the same cloth for the whole bathroom, toilet last (though not the bowl, that is done with a brush as needed), bung it in a normal wash.

Toilet paper, soaking in bleach, ‘flushable’ wipes, one-use cloths, boil washes… this all sounds pretty environmentally unfriendly.

Well I use the boil wash setting for more than just the sponge. It goes in with the towels.
Cam2020 · 14/12/2021 09:13

Ew no, different cloths!

Multicolouredsequins · 14/12/2021 09:14

Wouldn't want to be putting toilet cloths in my washing machine. Also think toilet brushes are very unhygienic. Disposable wipes for toilet, bleach to keep bowl clean for me.

Fireatseaparks · 14/12/2021 09:15

I only use antibacterial wipes on the toilet

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 14/12/2021 09:35

@namechange30455

Yes, but do the toilet last

Surely there's no need for a special cloth if you do that

Thats what I do, and all the cleaning cloths go into the machine each time they are used on a hot hot wash with a bit of bleach.
Jenster03 · 14/12/2021 09:36

Same cloth, do the toilet last. It isn't difficult. Using separate cloths is just wasteful.

You do realise that the washing machine's job is to wash right? At a temperature that kills germs? No wonder our planet is in the shit.
MousesBack · 14/12/2021 09:37

I use bleach spray on a wad of loo roll for wiping the toilet, then flush it away. Have a scratchy sponge for cleaning the bath and sink.

Jenster03 · 14/12/2021 09:40

Also the whole toilet brush argument. Yes I suppose they're unhygienic and trap germs, but don't you use cleaner down the toilet with a brush anyway? So does it really matter?
Unless you're all licking the toilet bowl on a regular basis?

KittenKong · 14/12/2021 09:41

What do you scrub it with the if you don’t use a brush?

Gonnagetgoing · 14/12/2021 09:41

toilet paper with antibacterial spray, toilet brush with toilet cleaner for right into the bowl (have got those new hanging toilet cleaner devices which are good).

I also sometimes use a sponge from bathroom which is going to be binned to properly scrub seat, under seat, top of toilet where cistern is and then bin sponge afterwards.

I'm just really interested what people use instead for toilet brushes after they've gone to the loo and left marks ?? Sorry, gross !
