because its not as if they will have loads and loads of fun at mil house. no one turns up there till after two anyways. and last day of school tomorrow, so they finish at two anyways.
and they will just wind me up, and get there clothes dirty. and just, because i want them to go to school?

We allow children one day off at little Eid and two for big at our school. Some have been off Wed/Thurs and others are taking Thurs/Fri as the date seems uncertain.

Happy Eid anyway!

Its a personal decision whether you send your children to school. It is really none of your mother in law business.

Prehaps you can ask your children what they want to do. School is often fun at this time of year.

fortunatley days we see relatives, or inlaws, like that, are few and farbetween.
rt, that is the problem. school is fun. but how do i instill any inkling of a muslim identity when i myself am a crap muslim? they dont seee me doing any of the stuff there school tells them that muslims do.i dont wear the veil. i wear normal, western clothes, dont pray five times a day, and they dont have many muslim friends. none at all through school.

Pukka, same here.

  • we do not have any family around and he's never celebrated any festival. I feel really bad seing him all excited about Xmas and clueless about islam.

All he knows is the Fatiha which we recite some evenings but for him i's no different than a song/poetry. Only it's in arabic. And then again he doesn't exactly understand because we do not speak standard litteral arabic!!

DH and me are completely out of touch with religion and rites. We grew up in the tradition but never practiced faithfully. No idea how to teach my son about islam!

How old are your DC, how do you teach them?

LOL - I'm the other way around, pukka. Living in a (mainly) muslim area so DH's nursery has been closed this week... and we'll be keeping him home Monday and Tuesday for christmas while most of little friends go back to school. We're not religious but we have so much family visiting...

Eid Mubarak! or Bajram bajricula as we say here!

Here in Germany the muslim dc stayed home on Thursday, and we've been getting all our phone calls today from the Bengal/Pakistan side. Some of you had Eid on Wednesday. It really spreads out. The only mention of it in the media that I saw was less than a couple of minute report on CNN.
