To think there’s no way you can wipe your bum clean?

Born in a mixed race family with a Middle Eastern mother, I was always taught to wash my downstairs with water after no 1s and 2s. We have a built in mini shower head thing to just spray our bums clean, and before that we used to have a jug sort of thing.

I’ve always wondered, do you genuinely think your bum is clean if you only wipe?

The way I see it, if someone dropped a few drops of urine or fecal matter on my flooring at home, I’d scrub it clean and atleast use some water. No way would I give it a wipe clean with a dry wad of tissue! So how can your skin be clean….

Am I missing something? Do you wet the tissue before use?

Sorry for the silly question! Have always wondered.

I thought i had a really good sense of smell but I've never detected all the "only washed instead of showered" people, people who don't wash their clothes each wear, scented pantyliners, unwashed fannies and stinky bums that a percentage of MN seem to sniff out!Confused
I've often suspected i might live in MN-ville, though so perhaps I'm lucky that most people I come into contact with shower 4 times a day (including after a poo) and wash their clothes and bedding twice a day, and thus don't smell!

CounsellorTroi · 14/12/2021 08:43

I find it strange in particular that those who choose to dry wipe are the most defensive though many admit to having a shower after as well!

The shower is just my morning routine. I get up, have a poo, wipe thoroughly, then shower and my bum gets a wash. On the very rare occasion I need a poo again I wipe thoroughly again and don’t worry about it until the next morning when I will shower anyway.

@HarlanPepper

I use loo roll and I wouldn't say my arse is surgically clean, no. But it's clean enough. It's usually covered by at least two layers of clothing, I almost entirely use it for sitting on rather than as a food preparation surface, so it's not something I lose sleep over.
Post of the Day!👏🏻😅
Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 14/12/2021 09:23

No longer true. Andrex ones now break down like toilet roll and are certified as biodegradable in water and safe to flush to European and UK water industry standards. So, OP, many of us use those after dry paper.

So do the ALDI toddler ones. Wasn't there a programme called Autopsy of a Fatberg or something a couple of years ago? The scientists and water company people did tests and found that some wipes were actually fine to flush whilst others (Peppa Pig ones seem to come to mind) were dreadful. A bigger problem was actually people putting oil down the sink. God knows what that aloe vera/cocoa butter/ultra padded luxury loo roll is doing to the sewerage system.

EnidFrighten · 14/12/2021 09:31

From potty training experience, I'd say wiping with loo roll removes all traces of poo effectively. The skin around the anus is a bit smoother than other skin so it wipes clean more easily.

Even if you wash, farting and moving around will mean little traces of poo appear around your anus.

Cleanliness is subjective anyway, we all just choose the level of filth we're prepared to live with. Bodies aren't sterile!

I used the spray water things when I visited India and found it a bit weird, I think the cold water increased blood flow to the area?

Haven’t rtft has anyone answered how a squirt of water is meant to actually get the poo off ?!

I don’t think it does, that’s the counter argument!
Changemaname1 · 14/12/2021 09:47

@Trixiefirecracker I see, well that was my thoughts also but wondered if maybe they had some sort of soap spray 🤷🏻‍♀️

What a strange conversation this is 😅

I know, it seems counterintuitive to me. One school of thought says you should put the toilet lid down to flush to avoid getting faecal matter on your toothbrush whilst the other suggests spraying water around to remove poo.

sleepyshiftworker · 14/12/2021 09:55

@HarlanPepper "peak Mumsnet" just made me snort with laughter. Thank you x

HoppingPavlova · 14/12/2021 09:56

Do people wash if they fart as well? If not why not if you are one of the ‘washers’.

I’ve never washed, except if I’ve gone immediately before a shower. Never been ill in any way from any sort of ‘bum germs’ Confused, poo doesn’t fly off around my house, probably because I wear undies which don’t seem to seethe with poo. Also never been told I smell so guessing that’s not the case. Given this, I have no idea what the benefit of washing is?

You're supposed to use your hand as well apparently
EIIa · 14/12/2021 10:14

This going on about a squirt of water.... well it’s more like having your backside power washed

Especially awesome when you have a heavy period

CounsellorTroi · 14/12/2021 10:16

You're supposed to use your hand as well apparently

And it’s meant to be more hygienic than wiping??

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 14/12/2021 10:26

Yeah, doesn't make sense, does it?!

suckingonchillidogs · 14/12/2021 10:35

How do people cope with the fact that poo is INSIDE YOUR OWN BODY before it comes out?? 😱. Ya dirty feckers

Classica · 14/12/2021 10:38

They use a bottle cleaner brush for internal scouring

To think there’s no way you can wipe your bum clean?
suckingonchillidogs · 14/12/2021 10:47

But then where do people store their colon cleansing brushes? Can they be put through the dishwasher? Perhaps that merits a separate thread.

Did you ever think that “those countries” regardless of whether they wash their bums or not, are actually poor? They work in the toughest situations to make ends meet. Yes they clean up shores bare hands because they don’t have any other means.

Actually find these comments disgusting, making fun out of poor countries hardships. Maybe the British should pay reparations to every country they fucked up with their quest for global domination?[/quote]
They are poor countries. You can blame their governments for that, not the people.

The people from those cultures posting on this thread aren't poor though. They look down on their own poor countrymen far worse than any westerner could.

Besides, nobody is looking down on them. Just addressing the smugness of people implying westerner are "dirty" for using loo roll

And yeah the British should for all the turmoil they've caused over the centuries. I say that as someone who had quite a few noble ancestors.

WhoopsWhatsMyNameAgain · 14/12/2021 12:39

YANBU. I use toilet paper and admit I know my bum isn't always clean 😳

LittleBoPeepHasLostHerShit · 14/12/2021 12:49

I always think using water to splash yourself clean must be a bit like washing raw chicken before cooking. I.e. it surely splashes the bacteria around.

OhPeeQueue · 14/12/2021 13:35

@RantyAunty I haven’t implied anywhere that westerners are dirty. You’re actually going out of your way to proclaim poor people in LMICs are disgusting, even though by no choice of their circumstances.

And this isn’t about bum washing is it? You’ve found a way to spout your racism albeit subtly through this topic.

If you’re so sickened by poor people having to make ends meet unhygienically, then fuck off and stay somewhere that’s more your level.

Racist.

OhPeeQueue · 14/12/2021 13:36

I meant “holiday somewhere that’s more your level”.

CatBumJuice · 14/12/2021 14:52

Well what I want to know is how women with really long nails manage to wipe properly!
