So not only has William been hectoring us about climate change and sustainable travel, but there's been a pandemic which has been a pandemic which for many people has been financially devastating, and for most of us a holiday seems a distant pipe dream. So this year of all years they have chosen a photo of themselves all looking tanned and relaxed on a (presumably free) holiday. Just feels a tad ill judged?

@PriamFarrl still doesn't make it Christmassy.
But as others have said, it is a really badly posed and photoshopped photo.
They need a better pr firm.
Charles and Camilla have got it right. I don't know if that is their influence, or just a better pr firm.

I’m up North and it doesn’t feel like their Christmas at all.

Isn’t it funny what we read into things? They look cheery enough to me, but maybe that’s because I want them to be cheery. Maybe your interpretation says something about your own outlook.

Meh people have been and continue to go abroad so they aren’t stopping others from leaving the country if they want to. I went abroad last August before the traffic light system started and I went away last half term.

At least they aren’t pretending they’ve been stuck in Norfolk for the last almost 2 years. Foreign press reported they were in the Caribbean around Christmas time last year. Had to be kept quiet over here as we were officially in lockdown then but my colleague DH is a private pilot and he flew quite a lot of wealthy folk to various residencies around the world using private planes during lockdown so I’m sure thats how Kate, William and family travelled quietly.

All this climate change activism and flying on commercial planes is good pr but that’s not how they really roll.

Well, this photo warms my peasant heart. For as we sat, skint, in the wet sand on a beach in North Wales, the world's most pampered and cossetted family were able to splay themselves out among some assorted middle Eastern paraphernalia with not a care in the world. And now we get to gaze on and slaver at them in the newspaper.

I doff my cap and am grateful for them!

My own opinion. If you want a family photo on a Christmas card, the Holy Family should be sufficient.

@DoctorSnortles The positioning is unnatural. Kate and William are physically separate, but hands-on each others knees. It is not natural and makes it look very posed.
George is way off to the side of the rest of them. Charlotte looks totally fed up.
Kate is doing her usual hilarious laugh pose that she does in just about every photo now. I guess it is her version of saying cheese. William looks uneasy and awkward, as he does in just about every photo.
It is badly posed with the golden ball and the animal rug, and you can see the poor photoshopping. It is also I think ill-advised for William to wear shorts.
Basically, it looks like a studio photographers family photo that a family trying to be posh have put on their own Christmas card. Which would be fine for someone spending a fairly small amount in a high street studio. But for a family with access to seriously expensive photographers, it is really poor.
