to think William and Kate's Christmascard this year was badly judged?

So not only has William been hectoring us about climate change and sustainable travel, but there's been a pandemic which has been a pandemic which for many people has been financially devastating, and for most of us a holiday seems a distant pipe dream. So this year of all years they have chosen a photo of themselves all looking tanned and relaxed on a (presumably free) holiday. Just feels a tad ill judged?

It's funny that loads of people are saying it's summery and not Christmasy. The first Christmas did take place in Bethleham, Palestine which is on the Middle East!

minou123 · 10/12/2021 20:45

I couldn't help myself, but I zoomed in.

I'm sure it's the lighting, or the pleats in his shorts, but Willians looks like he has a huge penis Blush
@PferdeMerde I meant they paid for it from their income. Rather than allowing a dodgy billionaire to fly them there a la Prince Andrew etc. ....
The bar is so low, it’s subterranean.

Tuirseach · 10/12/2021 20:45

Slightly away from the point of the original post but I really liked Charles and camillas photo!

julieca · 10/12/2021 20:46

@YetAnotherManicMonday1234

It’s not that great a photo to be honest. The background looks photoshopped, and they’ve quite clearly photoshopped around Kates waist/bust area (zoom in and see how much sharper the lines are), which she doesn’t need at all. Charlotte’s hair looks shopped too. Again she doesn’t need it.

Nice to se them looking happy. But what on Earth is up with the giant silver ball?

I agree. It surprises me with all the money they have that they cant get a better photographer or editor.
Rosebel · 10/12/2021 20:46

It's not a particularly good picture and looks really unnatural. I'm not surprised they went off on holiday, they are rich and over privileged so normal rules don't apply.
I used to like them but they act so perfect and clearly they aren't.

Roussette · 10/12/2021 20:46

I Just think it's a strange photo when we're all stuck with rising heating bills in grey UK.

It's a bit... oh wow, what a lovely time we had and I've got shorts on because it's so hot here in Jordan.

The kids look fab, such gorgeous children I will say.

I just would've imagined an understated photo in frosty Norfolk would have suited more in covid times, when lots haven't seen the sun elsewhere for so long

Silvershroud · 10/12/2021 20:46
@PriamFarrl Jordan is where Bethlehem is located...
Not since 1948. Since 1967 it was administered by Israel and since 1995 by Palestine.

LynetteScavo · 10/12/2021 20:46

Well, they didn't send me a Christmas card!

MN is full of people needing their foreign holiday, and throwing a strop of they can't get away. I really can't get worked up about this.

julieca · 10/12/2021 20:47

I like Charles and Camilla's card too! No not Christmassy, but it is fun and looks very very natural.

Ted27 · 10/12/2021 20:47

@astoundedgoat

Are family holidays not 'jaunts'. It wasnt an official trip. William had already done that.

Personally I'd be quite happy if the Royal Family slipped quietly into oblivion. But I do find it irritating how some of them get criticism whatever they do.
Many families went on holidays this year, I went on 3 in the UK. They are not exceptional in that.

sashagabadon · 10/12/2021 20:48

I like it! They are a very photogenic family

Nancydrawn · 10/12/2021 20:48

@Roussette

Nancy I suppose it depends if you're religious? Or not.

For most people Christmas is snow, robins, christmas trees, cold and frost.
Not shorts and gold poos to sit on lol

It's certainly not at all English-wintery. I'd also take not seasonal or even festive. But it's not like they're laying around on the beach in the Maldives! It is, if anything, too literally Christmassy.
MindTheGapMoveAlong · 10/12/2021 20:49

YANBU.
Comments on the cards in the Torygraph are ‘interesting’ and not particularly suportive.

ViperHalliwell · 10/12/2021 20:49

It's OK, but I'm hiding mine behind my Boris one - at least his dog knows how to stay at home.

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 10/12/2021 20:49

I don't live in the UK but lots of my friends and family do, and I was under the impression that loads of people had been going on holidays abroad this year. And not just wealthy people.

TheHuntingoftheSnark · 10/12/2021 20:50

@Guttedbuyer

Strange choice for a Christmas card but suppose there’s no rule that it needs to be a wintery scene.
Jordan definitely has no connection to Jesus Wink en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baptism_of_Jesus

But there is nothing in the picture to identify the place with certainty. It looks like Petra but you cannot tell from the picture. There is nothing, religious or otherwise, on the picture linking it to Christmas apart from the giant bauble
Roussette · 10/12/2021 20:50

But for just about all the population they just won't get that!

JumparooSavedMyLife · 10/12/2021 20:50

Didn't they go to Greece in half term too? Our 1 and only holiday abroad this year was cancelled again, we haven't been abroad since 2019. They're pretty tone deaf really arent they? I mean I've still not worked out what purpose these people serve? Why we must have their holiday snap rubbed in our faces I'm not sure? Some Christmas hats on stood in their garden would have been far better, if they must!

SpiceRat · 10/12/2021 20:51

I don’t why he thought people needed to see his knees tbh.

nildesparandum · 10/12/2021 20:52

It is certainly photoshopped. `Charlotte all of a sudden looks like a teenager.

PriamFarrl · 10/12/2021 20:52

@julieca

Honestly, I am laughing at the idea that a photo taken in Jordan is automatically Christmassy.
I don’t think it’s automatically Christmasy, and I’m a complete atheist, but it’s a stones throw from where the actual story of the nativity is said to have happened. To say it’s not Christmasy because it doesn’t have any of the Western European and pre Christian ideas of Christmas on it is daft.
seome1984 · 10/12/2021 20:53

Yes it was poor taste. It's not even xmassy. But aside from that it was in Jordan. I haven't traveled outside my local area in 20 months. Busting for a holiday!
