Train picnic etiquette...masks

Just bought a train picnic for a 2 hour train journey. Not crowded train. Whats the etiquette or do I just need to starve.

Yabu.... starve
Yanbu .... fill your boots.

@Justcannotbearsed ignore the usual virtue signallers on mumsnet who wouldn’t have eaten or drunk for 12 hours cos covid. They are determined to suck the joy out of everything and covid gives them a convenient excuse.

RampantIvy · 11/12/2021 08:15

I agree @tappitytaptap. I can't go without anything to eat or drink for 12 hours either. It sounds like sitting on a train for 2 hours was the OP's only opportunity to refuel.

I mentioned earlier how we love a football away day - just seen some of our fans enjoying this today!

(should say, on social media, rather than IRL). That's a lot of cheese!

' Dining Car' reminds me of The Orient Express where in fact conspiring with other passengers to murder someone annoying is encouraged.
On normal trains I think OP will be safe eating her baguette and cheese.

'Dining Car' reminds me of the greasy buffet carriage on the shabby old slam door trains in the South in the mid 80s on rush hour commuter routes. The 5pm trains out of London Victoria and London Bridge to the coast used to have one.

Anyway, I digress. Hope OP enjoyed their buffet spread.

I like that if I don't eat or drink it too fast and pace myself I can go for most of the journey with my mask down under my chin

Just don't wear a mask then, full stop.

That's the idea. But I have to at least appear to have one around when the ticket inspector comes along, which they do on some journeys.

I'm happy with the way I am doing it and will continue.

Seems like a lot of fannying on just to not wear a mask.

I just call into M & S Foodhall to pick up some sandwiches, crisps and a drink. Just takes a few minutes, not a lot of fannying about.
ALightThatNeverGoesOut · 12/12/2021 13:06

I was thinking more about the pacing yourself thing. You must be constantly thinking about when you're going to have your next bite/sip, making sure you don't run out etc. Just sounds like a load of faff for an outcome that isn't really so very exciting.

No you have not, they banned it for a while.

No, they didn't.

I was on trains during the lockdowns (for legitimate reasons). Nary a peep on this, on the trains or in the law as written.

How would anyone on a long train journey have stayed hydrated and not passed out from hunger from, say, Penzance to Aberdeen, if this was true?

(Yes some people do take the mick of course - not the OP, possibly the man eating nuts from further up the thread - but it's up to staff, and if necessary British Transport Police back-up, to make that call.)
