Do lip fillers make you mask exempt?

129 replies

LindaBlinda · 07/12/2021 17:18

Because I'm in Sarf East London and it feels as if the only people I see around here now not in masks are young women with very large filled lips.

Do masks damage the filler? Or hurt?

@PinkAndPurpleClouds

Justheretoaskaquestion91
I’m not wearing a lanyard around for the same reason my Jewish husband doesn’t wear a Star of David. Honestly wtf is wrong with people?

What a foul comparison to make.

@Justheretoaskaquestion91

Personally I don't think mandatory vaccination is the best way to go either, though I don't have a problem with vaccine/negative PCR test requirement for access to events, cinema, gym or what have you.

However, I wanted to make it quite clear, for those who are unaware, that the neo-Nazi brigade are definitely on the anti-vax side of the argument.

Her657844 · 07/12/2021 22:46

I have fillers and I don’t wear a mask ☺️

It is this type of thinking that makes the current authoritarianism so dangerous.

Cyrilgoggin · 08/12/2021 07:44

I feel so sorry for the people who genuinely can't wear masks as their situation is made so much more difficult by the many arseholes who could wear one and just don't bother. It's an awful position to be put in.

MurielSpriggs · 08/12/2021 07:54

This does sound somewhat misogynistic. It's nearly always men who won't wear masks.

KilmordenCastle · 08/12/2021 07:58

@WakeUpLockie

Heh. I saw someone without a mask the last few days at school and today noticed her child has a hearing aid. Felt so bad for questioning it (in my head)! People with no reason to not wear a mask have made us jump to conclusions about everyone.
No you have chosen to jump to conclusions about about everyone. If you are going to be judgemental then own it, don't try and blame it on others.
ultra88 · 08/12/2021 08:25
@xenobitch, you are making this up as you go along. Jog on.
But she's right? You can't be exempt if you can wear one? That makes no sense. You're not exempt by simple fact of medical or mental or emotional issues. It's this plus you can't wear one.

Pumpkinstace · 08/12/2021 08:33

It's the rape thing that gets me.

I'm sure that for those women that have been held down, mouth covered and raped it was a horrible, freighting experience they never want to be reminded of.

But, there are so many people using this reason (sometimes quite aggressively) that I don't always think it's true. I think it's just used for the shock factor and to make people feel shit.

If each and every one is true then we have a serious violent rape problem.

CloudyStorms · 08/12/2021 08:43

@Pumpkinstace I would just assume its true tbh. There can't be that many people sick enough to lie like that?

CloudyStorms · 08/12/2021 08:44

This is exactly why it's better to just think the best of people and assume they aren't lying

Doyouwantcoffee

Are you seriously comparing the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany with a requirement to wear a mask to stop the spread of a potentially fatal disease. Hopefully your DH can explain how offensive that comparison is. angry

Are you stupid doyouwantcoffee?Jews are persecuted all over the world all the time not just years ago during the war! THIS is the reason that the poster says her DH can’t wear his Star of David. I’m embarrassed for you at how clueless you are and how you have no idea that Jews still get abuse even today

Sparklfairy · 08/12/2021 09:20

@ultra88 if things were slightly different and fines were issued for not wearing one, I could absolutely appeal and I'd win because my medical records would support that I'm exempt.

But because I'm not a dick and don't fancy having angry people give me dirty looks/abuse, and my ptsd has improved significantly with therapy and meds, I simply didnt/dont go out, or if I had to go to a supermarket I knew I could manage 10 mins absolute maximum with the strategies I've learned. A few years ago, absolutely no way.

Those of us in recovery and trying our best shouldn't be shot down with, "well thats proof you're not exempt".

toomuchlaundry · 08/12/2021 09:29

There do seem to be a higher percentage of people exempt in this country than there are in other countries

KevinTheKoala · 08/12/2021 09:52

@Pumpkinstace we do have a serious violent rape problem! And we have done for a very long time, but because the perpetrators are more likely to be someone we know like a family member or a partner than a stranger dragging you down a dark path at night alot of people don't think realise how common it really is. It's very concerning that you would rather disbelieve victims - and actually not many people would lie about something like that - is more concerning to me. (and that's not personal to you, it is society as a whole).

KevinTheKoala · 08/12/2021 09:56

@ultra88 it's not quite as simple as that though - some days I can handle wearing a mask but other days are worse and I can't cope on those days. I am still exempt but not every day it depends on my mental state day to day if I have had a flashback then that can put me in crisis for days on end but if I've had a good week then wearing a mask for little while is generally manageable.

DeeCeeCherry · 08/12/2021 10:02

Im in South London too and see people of all ages not wearing masks. Stop fantasising and looking to instigate a thread of derogatory comments about young women.

So many people in London - young and older - are maskless yet its supposedly compulsory to wear them on public transport. Its ridiculous.

TalkSomeSense20 · 08/12/2021 10:10

@Helpstopthepain I did.

So, some days you can wear one, and some days you can't. That is fair enough.

From bitter experience, people saying "I am exempt but still wear a mask" are basically saying anyone saying they are exempt are just not trying hard enough.

But your medical issue doesn't make you exempt. It may provide factors which in your individual case may provide you with an exemption because you cannot wear a mask. Your condition does not make you exempt by the fact of having it.

TinaYouFatLard · 08/12/2021 18:28

What fun! Jolly Middle Class mumsnetters chortling and snorting their derision at those ghastly chavs.

wtaf37 · 09/12/2021 09:27

Round here it's normally the trackie wearers with that distinctive swagger that says, "you can't tell me what to fackin do, fackin try it bruv".

No, it isn't. In my experience, on all forms of public transpost, it's been about a 50/50 split
