Do lip fillers make you mask exempt?

Because I'm in Sarf East London and it feels as if the only people I see around here now not in masks are young women with very large filled lips.

Do masks damage the filler? Or hurt?

I was on my way to see my very sick husband today when I had to stop for fuel before dropping the kids off as I can't take them with me. I filled up, put the cap back on, walked towards the shop and realised, in my panic to leave home, I had forgotten my hospital bag with my mask in but I still had to go in and pay.

Judge me all you like.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/12/2021 18:20

It’s not about the persecution as a whole though, is it?

The reason you think it's a point to make is because of the persecution as a whole. If the context is missing, it's not a point.

BTW I don't think people with exemptions should be forced to wear a lanyard. But the comparison with the Nazis is ugly.

And pretty much all the 'mask exempt' I saw on TFL were young, white men. A weirdly challenged group WRT mask use.

It’s because they don’t want to ruin their makeup. True story.

It’s ugly and it’s unpopular (dare I say it’s taboo) but it’s not unreasonable in this instance. I take your point re the context as a whole but these are seriously scary times IMO. The situation in Austria is concerning. These sorts of threads/the way people are thinking is very concerning.

elbea · 07/12/2021 18:25

I don’t wear a mask and constantly get hassled, a member of staff chased me down an aisle in Sainsbury’s shouting me to put one.

I’m in my 20s, presumably not the type of person that people assume has a chronic lung disease. It’s triggered quite severely by humidity, I struggled around with a mask last time but had to take medication and take it off every few minutes to breathe properly. I’m not doing it again. It’s probably easier not to make assumptions about people and concentrate on yourself.

1forAll74 · 07/12/2021 18:25

I have seen a few women on tv programmes, with huge pumped up lips, so maybe no mask is big enough to cover the awful swollen mess of things

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/12/2021 18:31

For something taboo it certainly gets written enough.

Mortgagetransfer · 07/12/2021 18:35

The only people I see with no mask have no brains in their heads. You can see the light shining through.
I’ve got a brain thanks, clearly bigger than yours because I recognise everyone has different circumstances to myself. I have to take mine off if I get too hot as I faint very easily and then end up in bed with a migraine for 24 hours+.

Tinacollada · 07/12/2021 18:35

I'm following this with interest, as in a non mask related post I described a woman as "rough" - would readily describe a bloke as so too when appropriate- but the OP isn't getting flamed at all here.

Curious behaviour!

Bumbelinaaa · 07/12/2021 18:39

Mocking peoples appearance is so funny…

SparrowNest · 07/12/2021 18:40

I’m in SE London and about half of people don’t seem to bother with a mask, certainly not only young women

VladmirsPoutine · 07/12/2021 18:42

Just leave young women alone.

LuckyAmy1986 · 07/12/2021 18:48

If you are being genuine then I think you aren't supposed to wear a mask right after getting them, something to do with bacteria.

CloudyStorms · 07/12/2021 18:51

If you are exempt you can get a lanyard explaining this. It's not difficult. there isn't a special "mask exemption" lanyard FFS. And not everyone wants to declare their hidden disability.

OP stop being so judgemental lip fillers and reasons to be exempt from wearing a mask are not mutually exclusive.

CloudyStorms · 07/12/2021 18:52

Oh and stop staring at everyone's lips

CloudyStorms · 07/12/2021 18:55

The sign of someone being exempt from having to wear a mask is that they will not be wearing a mask. That is all that's needed.

Helpstopthepain · 07/12/2021 18:55

Maybe the people that are wearing masks have lip fillers too but you can’t see it Hmm

Good point!
FazedNotPhased · 07/12/2021 18:57

@Justheretoaskaquestion91

I’m not wearing a lanyard around for the same reason my Jewish husband doesn’t wear a Star of David. Honestly wtf is wrong with people?!
Oh my god.

What the fuck is wrong with you.

CloudyStorms · 07/12/2021 18:58

@TalkSomeSense20 is there a "I was raped so can't bring myself to wear a mask" lanyard?! No. There is not.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 07/12/2021 19:02

Good grief. Another bizarro world thread on MN.

100% genuine. Thanks.

I'd not thought about bacteria but had genuinely wondered if it could be painful which my assumption was it totally could be.

I didn't want to assume it was 100% vanity amongst the girls who like that look. And as some have such a large amount of filler around here I would expect they must be uncomfortable to touch.

Can't exactly ask them why so thought I might get an answer here.

We were all young once, and followed the trends. Mine was leather trousers and halter necks Blush

I'm sad that it seems to be the current trend for girls to alter their faces this drastically but I'm not judging them personally. Just curious and don't know anyone of that age group to ask.

@TalkSomeSense20

You don't wear a mask because you were raped when you were a child but don't see the need to just let folk know you can't/won't wear a mask by somehow having somekind of lanyard?

Surely letting people know you are exempt -for whatever reason - stops shop staff/bus drivers/whoever from having to ask if you have a mask to wear? And if they do have to ask then it prevents any kind of snippy, unneccesarily aggressive response from the non-mask wearer?

Comparing lanyards to the Holocaust just takes this to a whole new level of batshittery!

Wow! Did you preview this before posting?

Not wearing a mask is a sign someone is exempt. There is no requirement to wear a lanyard/badge or carry a card to say someone is unable to wear a mask.

I do wear a lanyard and card because I find that easier rather than say I am exempt if asked. I wear it for my benefit, and not for others. I did not wear one for a while and had no trouble with shop staff etc. It is other shoppers who are fucking rude.... and from my personal experience, wearing a lanyard seems to mark me as a target for rude self appointed mask police to approach me.
