To ask how focussed you WFH people are today?

Fellow WFH'er here.

Usually quite disciplined with completing tasks and rewarding with mini break but today:

No focus
Lack of concentration
Easily distracted
Loads to do but no motivation to do it

If you're WFH today how focussed are you today? And in general on other days?

I'm self-employed so I have taken a mental health day and am chilling out.

I set myself up for a better week next week by planning my work for next week with some free time.

Meruem · 03/12/2021 14:14

I’m lucky that I can do my hours more or less when I want, so I just never work Friday afternoons. Always finish by 1 at the latest. Laptop etc is then completely put away out of sight, until Monday. It means I can wind down and be fully relaxed for the weekend.

Alwaysconfuddled · 03/12/2021 14:14

I’m usually focused but haven’t been that productive this morning. I’ve been stuck and there was no one to ask for help, meanwhile he was getting numerous emails from the same person asking for answers that I couldn’t provide 😞

RudeAF · 03/12/2021 14:15

I’m too cold to concentrate. Popped out with the bins and realised it’s warmer outside than in my home office so maybe I should go for a coffee run and do emails on my phone sat on a bench!

NotTerfNorCis · 03/12/2021 14:15

I do hybrid work, two in, three out. My job is quite intense so usually I'm going flat out whether I'm in the office or at home. Probably a bit more relaxed in the office because people want to chat, and I often make a point of having a lunch break. I'm at home today and it's more relaxed than normal - only two meetings, no crises (for a change).

Echobelly · 03/12/2021 14:15

Not bad today, got quite a lot, but not excessive, to do so it keeps me in track. Nothing pressing for rest of the day so will do reading and research which takes up quite a lot of my time.

Ifyoudontlaughyouwillcry · 03/12/2021 14:15

I am as focussed as I usually am…..did the morning meeting, put the washing on and just come back from pub lunch it’s OH 🤣🤣

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 03/12/2021 14:16

Definitely lacking focus today. I have one Big Task which I need to get done in the next couple of weeks and a clear diary today so it should be a good opportunity to get through it but I'm struggling. I think I'm going to do the easy bits and leave the harder stuff for a day when my brain wants to cooperate!
Everyone seems to be in the same boat today, judging from the lack of messages/emails I'm getting.

Aiglenotsuperior · 03/12/2021 14:17

I have zero motivation today and really wanted a quiet Friday....no, as usual, came in to a mountain of work this morning, finally finished all that at 1, went for lunch....have just sat back down at my desk and have come back to 5 more long arsed tasks that need to be completed before COB today. Procrastinating on here atm as I just don't have the motivation!

I just want to sit on the sofa with the dog and tea and biscuits. (I actually never do this as my role is so bloody busy all.the.time) but it's what I would do if I had the time and I swear it's what all my friends and family think I do Hmm

WhoppingBigBackside · 03/12/2021 14:19

I've had three poor night's sleep in a row, and am working on something rather tedious. Am feeling a bit cabin-feverish and am tempted to take a couple of hours as a break and do it this evening

I've bought a christmas present and won an ebay auction the past couple of days

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/12/2021 14:19

I don’t think I’d be any better if I was in the office!

picklemewalnuts · 03/12/2021 14:19

I am relieved reading this! I do loads of extra hours because I feel guilty about the unproductive ones (peril of working part time). Some days I can't seem to pull my act together- usually there's an obstacle, something that's holding me up and seems to drain any decision making ability from all the other areas. I'm much better when things are flowing well.

floofycroissant · 03/12/2021 14:20

Bloody awful. I have tasks left over from the start of November. They're just piling up. I feel like I'm running on fumes. Had a health issue in the last month that has just pushed me over the edge.

Same for home bought a tree a week ago and it's still bare, the house would be a tip of we didn't have a cleaner. And every spare minute seems to be packed with social occasions when I just want to hibernate.

OrangeJuiceAndNoodles · 03/12/2021 14:24

I've had three meetings so far. I find that I can't work in the space between meetings so in some ways, I feel like I've done nothing today.

Frustrating.

MajesticallyAwkward · 03/12/2021 14:29

I'm usually pretty good, today I got an arsey email that pissed me off and haven't managed to refocus since.

I try to structure my days to stay on track, this afternoon was reading something for this last meeting and I've read the first 2 lines for an hour 🙄 we're allowed the odd fuck it day though- we have them in the office. Or I did anyway... days where you end up just chatting or procrastinating until it's time to leave

PeachTea1 · 03/12/2021 14:29

I achieved two things this morning, think that's me done for today.
I'm waiting around for a lot of things and until I get them I can't do much more.
Went for a nice long walk at lunch and now I'm on countdown to 5pm.

Vickim03 · 03/12/2021 14:29

I work part time from home. I did 9-12 today taking an hour I worked extra a couple of weeks ago. It’s hard sometimes to keep motivated at home.

Are you calling the baby Alveoli?

Envoitrevisage · 03/12/2021 14:33

Usually pretty good, had a productive week but have run out of steam this afternoon. I’m just mixing the Christmas cake whilst listening to a Teams meeting that I have to be present for but not really participate in.

DentalWorries · 03/12/2021 14:34

Friday afternoons are when I let myself work on the sofa with trash TV on in the background.
I know I’m much more productive in the morning so get most of my work done then so I can do the more mindless tasks in the afternoon.
Currently this afternoon has consisted of choosing Christmas presents to send to clients although I’m not sure there’s much point if they’re all wfh as well

vickyp0llard · 03/12/2021 14:36

I do fuck all all day. I literally watch Youtube, go on MN, read Daily Mail, e.t.c. Done it for about a year. I do hate my job though and am leaving. Part of the reason being that I can't WFH, I've gone for a job that demands being in the office more.

Rade · 03/12/2021 14:37

I know it's not quite the point of the thread but DS23 WFH. It's all he's ever known as he started his career in lockdown1. He's never actually been into work apart from part time jobs at uni.

He seems chained to his desk, has a 20 minute break at lunchtime but other than that never stops.

I think it's a hugely unhealthy way to work but don't know how typical it is?

Some of his friends are the same. Extremely good, well paid jobs in IT but all WFH .

Youngatheart00 · 03/12/2021 14:38

Horrific. I’m super stressed and genuinely think I’m suffering for burnout. I can’t apply myself to anything and I’ve got total brain fog

Platax · 03/12/2021 14:40

Lacking focus at the moment because it's been a week full of meetings and I've finally finished the last one. So I'm awarding myself a bit of a break.

@Joystir59 Grin excellent. Shall suggest to DH. For a boy or girl though I wonder…
